Martha Bass - Checker Lp In Demand And Tipped For The Top
Godzilla replied to Godzilla's topic in Record Sales
Highest bid so far is £65. I won't keep bumping as not fair on other sellers, but will do final update later tonight to give folks an idea. Thanks for the interest so far Edit: Now at £75 -
Evening all Had a bit of interest in this LP and have a spare copy up for grabs. Martha Bass - Rescue Me - Checker DJ copy which includes the LP only track "Since I've Been Born Again" which was discussed in the "tips for 2011" thread and a couple of subsequent ones where it was established it's a pretty tough album and the track in question is set to go big. This copy is a best described as VG as there are quite a few surface marks but they have very little effect on the sound as you can see by the clip which is completely un-mucked about with. As I've been advised I let the other copy go quite cheaply and have no real idea what's a fair price I've decided to open it to offers Best offer by Midnight Friday UK time gets it. Even if the best offer is a quid... Bids either by PM, on this thread or emailed to: mistergodzilla@yahoo.com If there any questions, further clips or any scans required give me a shout Martha Bass sale copy.mp3 Thanks for looking Paul (Godz)

Ever thought about the North of England Webby? One from Blackpool that's 50 years earlier than your example Blackpol Dance Competition 1920
-
see my retraction above
-
Sorry - false alarm - It "The Artistry of... " that's a UK copy. Apols and also to Sean for mucking up his thread
-
Think I might have a UK copy somewhere. Any ideas of value on that one?

Isn't this where, traditionally, we start recommending blow lamps and sandpaper...

Yeah just looked at your post again and see we're saying the same thing. New years res is to stop being so vain and start wearing the specs that I so clearly need to read properly

I know what you mean Matt - but doesn't politics sometime equate to policy. All the usual arguments about: where/when/whether reissues or boots can be played and which are ok and which are not; whether to avoid clashes or take a 'strongest will survive attitude; If venues should stick to certain types of music whether it be traditional Northern, Crossover, R&B, Modern or to play 'across the board; what sort of mix (if any) is acceptable/right for the scene; whether young people should be encouraged or discouraged and what age is the cut off point.; should DJ's be paid or motivated by the love of it... ...I could go on. All of the above contribute to debate, argument, analysis and can in my view be thought of as 'political' subjects. It's just like real life really. You get people who say "I'm not interested in politics, but the truth is as soon as you get up, form an opinion about what's on the news, go to work, think about your pay, taxes, (or benefts if not working) cost of living, by a paper, you're involved in politics. No getting away from it really (and for God's sake please don't use the above post to re-open any of those much discussed topics )

Sorry mate - didn't see your post as we'd already set off. Ta for the info though - although we would have been unlikely to get involved in the extra curricular activities. We were pretty pooped after a hectic couple of days and I had an ear infection in both ears. We'd booked to see War Horse for Mrs G's birthday months ago and then found out KGF were playing last month and had already booked hotel and travel with good deals. Couldn't swap for matinee tickets either unfortunately. Damn. Anyway, as we didn't see your advice we didn't realise that live acts start early there. We got there in time to catch Link Quartet though, and Corinna Greyson, so although we missed Big Joe Louis we caught him join her for Go Go Train I saw you standing by the door and smiled a couple of times but didn't introduce myself as, embarrassingly, due to the dodgy ears I was able to hear bands but conversation in pubs and clubs was just about impossible. Even Mrs G finally accepted that I wasn't deliberately ignoring her and she had some good sport by mouthing complicated insults at me. Despite this we had a great time and, having done a large part of my growing up attending music venues of between 200/400 capacity, I felt immediately at home. The upshot is that we're definitely going to get to the one of the 100 Club allnighters in the near future and next time will be sure to say hello. Meanwhile, I'd just like to say to folks on here: If you get the chance - See Corrina Greyson! Godz

Here's a couple of 45s by a New Orleans Legend - see link ?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent> for my previous sales. I'll consider offers on unsold items **Other records in link still available** Eddie Bo - Gotta Have More / Come to Me - Blue Jay VG++ £25 SOLD A Great New Orleans R&B dancer with (I've been told) Eddie on organ and considered to be the best of his Blue Jay sides Superficial marks only - Check the soundclip to hear how great it plays Eddie Bo Gotta Have MP3.mp3 Eddie Bo - That Certain Someone / Love Has Been Good - Scram VG++ £45 SOLD This sounds more like a Crossover type tune to my ears - certainly Eddie in Soul mode. This has in recent years proved to be one of the tougher Eddie Bo sides to locate. There's a terrific organ led ballad on the flip too. Again, superficial marks only - as demonstrated by the clip Eddie Bo Certain.mp3 Silver on blue can cause difficulty for scanners and the Scram 45 looks a little dull in the image here. Rest assured that both labels are vibrant with sharp print. Shipping for up to 2 x 45s: £1.00 1st Class / £1.80 Recorded Delivery in the UK. £2.00 overseas + insurance if required. Combined shipping available if you buy more than one record Payment by payapl please - as a gift if possible. Contact via PM or email to: mistergodzilla@yahoo.com Finally click ?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent> for my previous sales. I'll consider offers on unsolds **Other records in link still available**

Gonna be in London on Friday night so had a trawl round the net and found a night at 100 Club with the following acts. The Link Quartet, Noel McKoy, Corrina Greyson, Big Joe Louis and DJs Andy Smith and Jazzman Gerald Right up my street but I have to admit I've never been to the venue before. So: 1. is there a cloakroom? - we may have bags with us. 2. dancefloor - slippy or sticky? I've got docs with smooth souls that are so shiny they''re great on even a sticky floor. Want to wear some shoes with a crepe soul though and if the floor isn't slippy they're a bugger to dance in. 3. will it matter or is likely to be that packed at a live band night that we'll just be shuffling a couple of inches from side to side? 4. any other spiffing 100 Club tips? Thanks amigos! Godz

Have to disagree with that Hunnymon. I thought the music sounded really compressed and flat. In fact I decided to see if my ears were deceiving me and as my TV goes into the hi-fi amp (for recording audio) I did a little test. We listened to Detroit Soul - All Of My Life on the DVD and then compared it to a vinyl copy, MP3 and then played it off Youtube. All with the same settings and through the same equipment. DVD sounded worst of the lot. Lord knows what they did to the soundtrack

One of the problems seems to be buyers receiving goods different to what they actually ordered. That's where it gets a bit iffy and someone on the paypal forum says: "Except on ebay, where Paypal has special arrangements, you cannot file a dispute for "Not as Described". They'll only cover "Item not received" and all the seller has to do for that claim is to show that they delivered something to youWhat you should always do is pay with a credit card - that way you have extra protection." Hope your transaction turns out ok .

Interestingly enough, Nev, that's another thing Mrs G said. We taped a 3 part C4 documentary from some years ago called "The Story of Hip Hop" and I swear that even if you weren't into the music you'd find it engrossing viewing. It charts the history and development of Hip Hop and mixes vintage footage with interviews with the movers and shakers on the scene. It also doesn't shy away from the controversies, splits, accusations of 'sell out', credit taking, commercialism and so on. We can watch it over and over and Mrs G remarked straight after watching Soulboy that the Northern scene deserves an equally fitting and serious piece and that nowadays, surely there's sufficient interest from the mainstream as well as those connected to justify such a project. Hey! maybe I should produce a submission to for C4! Who's in?
-
Watched it last night - with some trepidation it has to be said, although I also secretly hoped it would provide the odd tingle down my spine. Mrs G who never went to Wigan but has been to Keel and the Ritz said she got considerablymore of in idea of what the Casino was like by listening to me and my pals talking about it. As for the principle that it's just a coming of age/love story set in the 70s that just happens to have a northern Soul backdrop, I'll leave the last word to Mrs G too: "it's hardly Gregory's Girl, is it?" Nuff said

ahh the infamous 'original version' trick...
-
Not disputing your knowledge of all things UK, Dave, but surely there are more than five UK 45s that are worth more on issue than demo. I think there are a number of prog/psych/freakbeat 45s that are equally hard on issue or demo and a fair few that are tougher on issue. John Bull Breed on Polydor springs to mind as an example... .. unless that happens to be one of the five you're thinking of

Here's the refosoul clip as promised Martha Bass - Since I've Been Born Again - Checker
-
Why didn't you just ask me you pair of numbskulls It is on her "Rescue Me" album which also includes an interesting gospel take on her daughter, Fontella's hit of the same name. "Since I've Been Born Again" was also included on the Soul Jazz comp Soul Gospel Vol 2 which you mention, but obviously the Checker album is the original. No 45 issue of this anywhere, as far as I know. Nice to see it getting some recognition on here as I think it's just a stonking tune I'm going to be putting a spare copy of the album up next time I list some sales. Hopefully before weekend but it won't be tonight as we're off out for nosh for Mrs G's birthday
