US Postal Service COVID-19 Restrictions
Godzilla replied to Johnny Northern's topic in Look At Your Box
He seemed annoyed that a £12 record hadn't been set tracked. We state clearly that international orders over £20 are sent Tracked and Signed but below go standard unless we're specifically asked. In the context of having our shop closed over Easter, when we live in a popular seaside holiday destination, plus huge uncertainty over Record Store Day, a refund for a £12 record plus shipping isn't a huge deal -
US Postal Service COVID-19 Restrictions
Godzilla replied to Johnny Northern's topic in Look At Your Box
I mailed a few things overseas just before we closed the shop. One 45 got to the States in 6 days but another, shipped a day or two before has been stuck in Chicago airport facility for over two weeks. I suspect I'll end up refunding. -
The RSD international coordinators are discussing in the next couple of weeks but my personal feeling is that we won't be doing it June.

We watched the BBC concert from 1973 only last week. Genuinely heartbreaking news.

We decided to close after Saturday as we felt we couldn’t justify giving people a reason to mix. I was also concerned that public opinion could become hostile to businesses that remained open and that was proven pretty quickly here in Scarborough, when crowds flocked to both bays at weekend, resulting in heavy criticism of the shops and cafes who were felt to be encouraging them. On Monday the decision was taken further out of our hands as the government announced the shut down of non-essential retail. Our particular circumstances are that I also got the NHS text I was expecting, advising me I was in a high risk group and instructing me to self isolate for 12 weeks. Our full time staff member will be furloughed under the Government’s Job Retention scheme, which means he’ll get 80% of his wage paid (eventually - we pay until the scheme is up and running). Despite the fact that we’re paying him the other 20% he’s not allowed to work - it’s a bit like benefit fiddling. Therefore, with neither of us allowed in the shop that’s our online sales effectively shut down too and I took down our Discogs inventory today. Judging by the conversations on the RSD forum, although all indie record shops are now closed, there’s still some lively debate about whether it’s right to continue to offer a mail order service just now. Testing times to say the least...

RSD 2020 is on Saturday 18th April this year. I’ve compiled a list of titles that may appeal to people on the forum. Please don’t use this thread to complain about RSD if you don't like it - start another thread instead, I’m just trying to provide some info here. Some nice bits this year including the Robert Parker and Willie Tee 45s. We’re aiming to stock all of these releases at Record Revivals in Scarborough (allocations permitting). If you can’t make it to the shop, it’s worth remembering that under RSD rules we’re allowed to sell online 7 days after RSD. Last year we had quite a few titles left and we are able to get decent quantities on most, as a lot of RSD shops aren’t so interested or lack knowledge of the soul releases. So, if you miss out at your local shop feel free to drop us a line or give us a call to check stock levels before paying inflated prices on eBay and Discogs. If we have stock left after 7 days we’ll be selling by mail order at our regular retail price. We actually got asked for it in the shop but it's D2C only, so not available to us. I predict it will be with the discount wholesalers this time next year - and that's when we'll be offering cheap copies as we did with Chess 7s boxes last month.

This is all over my newsfeed today. Apparently the other source in Japan is a lot smaller and strugling to keep up with demand. I've read they had previously stated they're not accepting new clients. Direct Metal Mastering is an option but there are critisisms in terms of the volume you can get that way and the fact that DMM favours the top end. Sounds serious. I'm not panicking yet but it's a definite concern for those of us in the new vinyl business... https://www.smackmedia.ca/news/apollo-masters-fire

How much for Carrolls Surrendered your love?
Godzilla replied to Chris O's topic in Look At Your Box
There’s the 66 issue and a 71 reissue. Greater demand for the OG I’d suppose... -

Quick update. The distributor has confirmed that they are shipping our stock tommorow. It will arrive Wednesday and we'll be mailing out Thursday, for the Friday release date. Thanks to everyone who pre-ordered.

Record Revivals Scarborough We've had the shop for two years this Saturday, when the shop will celebrate its 37 birthday. Party time naturally
-
I was addressing the people who were asking to reserve. Apologies for any confustion. To clarify, we're a record shop that sells product from various distributors. We're not pressing up this 45 ourselves and therefore don't have access to that information. Thanks Paul
-
I managed to up my allocation from the distributor but we're almost up to my limit now. I think we can do about another 4. Any left over will go in our physical shop. Likely to be a couple of quid more after the pre-order price ends. Pre orders by paypal as per original post please.

Now finally available on 7 inch.

They followed me at a festival gig. Couldn't wait to get me and my records out of the booth so that they could set up the camera to film themselves -
Dave Stubbs regularly DJd there with his amazing UK collection.

They’re digital DJs though aren’t they? Interesting that they’ve now started putting out vinyl... If I’m honest, my impression is that their marketing/image (DNSC T shirts, badges etc) is a higher priority than the music. -
Hi all Looking for Allen Toussaint - We The People - Soul City UK pressing - not US Bell Let me know how much you want please - not like it's an auction record! Cheers! Godz

Crazy syntax man! Definitely looking forward to hearing Babe Ruth though - wake me up when it happens...

Me too. At the Cats Whiskers in Oldham there were two DJs: Alan Massey played Northern Soul while the other guy- forget his name but a decent bloke albeit a Kid Jensen type - played commercial soul by the likes of Al Matthews, Barry White, George McCrae, Hamilton Bohannon, Disco Tex and his Sex O Lettes etc etc etc. Given this impressive level of recall it’s a mystery to me why I continually lose my phone and keys...
