  1. "Original Version Or Certainly Inspiration To Larry Clintons "Wanted" That's Bill Cosby's "Little Ole Man" he's talking about there...
  2. Lots of vaguely related stuff being posted, (that doesn't apply to Gene's post above btw..) but I think this is more what the topic starter was aiming for: Gil Bernal - It Sure Is Groovy - from the soundtrack to In The Heat Of The Night. Pretty sure I heard this played at Keele - probably on the back of the inferior Brothers Cain version that was covered up as Moses and Joshua, I think.

  8. I think I ve found a solution that might enhance a low powered in-car jobbie. Will give it a trial and feedback on how I get on.
  9. Attention tech heads! I want to do this as cheaply as possibly please: I'm going to be doing an outdoor gig in the grounds of an art gallery with lots of workshops/studios attached. What I'd like to do is transmit what's played in FM so that all the studios can have a transistor radio or boombox tuned in. The furthest the signal will have to reach is about 100m and we can position the transmitter on a balcony above us so that we can improve the signal with a bit of height. Trouble is I don't know what kit I need. It needs to be something I can connect from the back of mixer via phono or jack leads, so that's stuff like the Griffin iTrip out. Any suggestions gratefully received amigos
  10. Mine was £8 from Soul Bowl and to my recollection was relatively speaking quite a while (almost a year) before the red boot. Searling was still playing it when the Monarch TP came out. Always regarded it as a boot.

  16. Yeah I got that - just wasn't sure where the Broadway stuff came from?

  18. RIP Donald Byrd: Jazz, soul and funk legend http://youtu.be/ZcrNPJ73-zc added by site news item http://www.guardian....-byrd-jazz-dies The influential jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd died on Monday at the age of 80, his nephew has said Alex Bugnon, a jazz pianist, reported his uncle's death on Thursday wikipedia full article can be found at http://en.wikipedia....iki/Donald_Byrd In the 1970s, Byrd moved away from the hard-bop jazz idiom and began to record jazz fusion and rhythm and blues. He teamed up with the Mizell Brothers (producer-writers Larry and Fonce) for Black Byrd (1973) which became the best-selling Blue Note album.[4] The title track climbed to No. 19 on Billboard"²s R&B chart and reached the Hot 100 pop chart, peaking at No. 88. The Mizell brothers' follow-up albums for Byrd, Street Lady, Places and Spaces and Stepping into Tomorrow, were also big sellers, and have subsequently provided a rich source of samples for acid jazz artists such as Us3. Most of the material for the albums was written by Larry Mizell. In 1973, he helped to establish and co-produce The Blackbyrds, a fusion group consisting of then-student musicians from Howard University. They scored several major hits including "Happy Music" (No. 3 R&B, No. 19 pop), "Walking In Rhythm" (No. 4 R&B, No. 6 pop) and "Rock Creek Park". During his tenure at North Carolina Central University during the 1980s, he formed a group which included students from the college called,Donald Byrd & the 125th St NYC Band. They recorded the 'Love Byrd' album, this being one of Donald Byrd's last highlights in his jazz funk phase which featured Isaac Hayes on drums. The album had a couple dance grooves, including the hit & garage classic "Love has come around". Recorded on Elektra records and released as a single in September 1981 it became a big disco hit in the UK and reached #41 in the chart.

  20. Think you'll find there's a more appropriate part of the forum for first time posters to spell friends incorrectly.
  21. You've seen the one on Manship's for £50 I take it? Fair price for an issue I reckon.
  22. Just had a look on ebay and interestingly all the Romar 45s with that label design, whether promo and issue, have the MGM logo on the left hand side.
  23. Theres records by Linda Carr, Mel Carter and I have an oddball psych/pop thing by Hocus Pocus or something like that. Someone else famous too - Beach Boys related maybe... can't remember. The promo thing is an insert rather than a sleeve unfortunately. Still nice though. It's clearly trying to get radio stations to syndicate her radio show, so after the TV one and most likely early/mid 70s I reckon. edit: not Beach Boys - it's Mickey Dolenz from the Monkees
  24. Is that right Pete? My promo has the MGM dist info - I thought that was one of the easiest ways to tell it from the boot, apart from the originals being on vinyl?
