  1. Really? From my experience every few years there comes along a new 60s RnB influenced band in the style of early Stones - or even more likely the Pretty Things - although a lot of them are filtered through the 9 Below Zero/Dr Feelgood style version. Latest I've seen are the Strypes from Ireland Here's an original (I think) - Blue Collar Jane https://youtu.be/rYPtYhhWVHw and a cover of Got Love If You Want It
  2. Sorry Joe - that's clearly a Frat Rock record
  3. Don't sweat Peter. Simmsy's clearly not woken up yet either
  4. I think you'll find that you're actually still tucked up in bed, fast asleep Rich. When you wake up you'll remember that you were dreaming about the old copy of the RCA Jumping at the Go Go LP that you had. Getting mixed up with the Susan Barrrett vs Dusty versions of What's It Gonna Be, I reckon.
  5. Very sad news indeed. A truly brilliant musician and producer. I could listen to Loleatta Holloway's Runaway all day - especially the scintillating vibes work. RIP Vincent. https://youtu.be/E00A2M7q1MI

  9. Here's a mix of gospel tunes from my pal Pablo. Artists featured are: Dr CL Johnson; The O'Neal Twins; The Harmonizing Four; The Salem Travelers; The Swan Silvertones; Alice Mae Victor; Rev Lofton and the Holy Travelers; The Banks Brothers with the Greater Harvest Back Home Choir of Newark, New Jersey; Stanley Winston and the Soulful Sisters; Bonnie Landers Singers; In Memory of Stella Burke; The Metro Acapella Choral Group. "Tell It Like It Is: a mix of vintage Gospel tunes recorded from original vinyl. Shades of Funk, Soul, R&B, and hand clapping, foot stomping, tambourine rattling traditional tunes. The set is book-ended by a couple of acapella songs, the first recorded live in a church in 1965, the final track less well documented and containing some African influences - to my ears anyway". https://www.mixcloud.com/pablo-mesqualito/tell-it-like-it-is-gospel-mix/
  10. Still not true mate. Don't believe people - they talk bobbins
  11. What, all the hip hop, dance, indie, rock, jazz, country, etc in the world? That's an insane idea!
  12. Fair point, but some materials degrade with age as well as wear and tear. I don't know this for sure, but I'm assuming the stuff used to make vinyl/PVC records that are stamped or injection moulded won't be exactly the same as the plastic that gets a groove cut into it with these machines. I'm also aware that I'm being pretty pedantic too, but hey - that's what this site is all about really...
  13. Not sure how anyone can make this claim, assuming there aren't any 60 year old records that have been cut from the same blanks in the same way.
  14. They thought of themselves more as an R&B band. Here's a quote from their myspace page: The Rumblers - named* for Link Wray's Rumble - came from Norwalk, CA, and recorded with Downey Records out of Wenzel's Records up State 42 a few miles in Downey. Founded in 1959 (first gig 1961), they had a hit with Boss on the Downey (local)/Dot (national) labels, made a series of additional singles and an LP, and disbanded in 1965 when guitarist Johnny Kirkland was drafted. They also recorded as the Nylons and the Bel Cantos. Never forgotten, they've appeared since then in numerous compilations and in a major revision of their LP. Like a number of bands now revered as one of the original surf bands, they always considered themselves to be playing R&B and making a few nods to this surf fad thing that had come along. They did some vocals, both covers and a few originals, and did them well, but their repertoire always leaned heavily to instrumentals and their recorded output reveals them to be a particularly fine, in fact, a really boss, instrumental band. The Rumblers considered All Night Long to be their theme song. Good US and UK discog here: https://koti.mbnet.fi/wdd/rumblers.htm and line up details on Dave Rimmer's site: https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/rumblers.htm I hadn't realised that they were also the Interns on Uptown who recorded the "Gloria" sound-a-like "Hard to Get", a copy of which which I've got somewhere amongst my garage 45s. Never made the connection.
  15. Taj Mahal - Ain't That a Lot of Love was also done as one of the later, poor quality label releases
  16. Nice on UK King The band also recorded as the Bel Cantos with Barry White on vocals
  17. Ahem... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Kcqc0I7xe0 MARIE l'otage
  18. Spiked by heels, no doubt.
  19. Watch your tongue there Triode. Rod's a bit of a loafer who has just recently become interested insole music and he's only dipped his toe into the whole boot thing. He's as stubborn as mule and insists on doing it on a shoestring budget. That said he generally takes crepe from no one. Any moment now he'll pull his socks up and you'll be in the middle of a spat with him. I wouldn't try to give him any welly as he'll just slingback your comments and be after you hell for leather. Of course I could be talking cobblers...
  20. I smell records!
  21. The Salem Travelers - Give Me Liberty or Death - Cadet 5048 £30.00 SOLD Nice Gospel dancer - not the later Cadet "Sermons and Spirituals" reissue that's often passed off as the real thing but the pale blue original. Fantastic group with a great song and one of the ones that paved the way for the recent acceptance of Gospel tunes on the Northern and R&B scenes. Often listed much higher. Condition is a strong VG+ (close to EX) with a minor edge warp that doesn't affect play - it sounds perfect with no ticks, pops or scratches. Clean label as scan with a little fading on flip. Paypal only please. Price includes free 1st class shipping in UK. Overseas at cost. Feel free to ask questions
  22. Exactly so. There's no real malice here. More to the point, if a website owner decides to publish their opinions about soul/Northern soul records, not just in the public domain, but with the clear intention of drawing attention to them - and I include prices and sales pitches here - then they should be completely prepared to have the same commented upon and even criticised on a soul music site such as this.
