Mickey Mouse Concerto - Cartoon Candy Carnival
Godzilla replied to Soul16's topic in Look At Your Box
Soul Sam played Cartoon Candy Carnival. I'd spent a couple of weeks at another nighter and went back to the Casino one week and can clearly recall being on the balcony with a mate when he played and asking what the f*ck was this atrocity. -

Melvyn Bliss - Synthetic Substitution - Sunburst Now Sold
Godzilla replied to waterfall_manc's topic in Record Sales
Thanks to Paul Mooney for a detailed and helpful answer -
Look I'm trying to proper stuff with the German soul 45 thread and input into the Melvin Bliss debate in sales. It's unfortunate that more of the site members prefer to comment on this pop song. From now on I promise I'll keep my trap shut every time some deaf-luggs reckons they're musically related

Melvyn Bliss - Synthetic Substitution - Sunburst Now Sold
Godzilla replied to waterfall_manc's topic in Record Sales
It's really tricky. There's a Monclairs 45 from the late 60s with a white promo that looks like the definite original of Melvin Bliss and two different red issues. Later releases from early 70s (including 1973 like Melvin Bliss) have both issues and promos on the coloured variation. Sometimes the promos are mono/stereo versions of the A side as with "reward' and sometimes they have the same A and B sides as the regular issue. We could do with an expert on the label here... -
content removed Sorry.

Can't believe I'm bloody doing this but: "Happy" [Verse 1:] It might seem crazy what I’m about to say Sunshine she’s here, you can take a break I’m a hot air balloon that could go to space With the air, like I don’t care baby by the way [Hook:] Because I’m happy Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof Because I’m happy Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth Because I’m happy Clap along if you know what happiness is to you Because I’m happy Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do [Verse 2:] Here come bad news talking this and that, yeah, Well, give me all you got, and don’t hold back, yeah, Well, I should probably warn you I’ll be just fine, yeah, No offense to you, don’t waste your time Here’s why [Hook] Hey, come on [bridge:] (happy) Bring me down Can't nothing bring me down My level's too high Bring me down Can't nothing bring me down I said (let me tell you now) Bring me down Can't nothing bring me down My level's too high Bring me down Can't nothing bring me down I said [Hook 2x] Hey, come on (happy) Bring me down… can’t nothing… Bring me down… my level's too high… Bring me down… can’t nothing… Bring me down, I said (let me tell you now) [Hook 2x] Come on

Here's the 2012 re-press and a link to when it was for sale. They look good! No wonder they get sold as originals. https://ughh.com/melvin-bliss-synthetic-substitution-reward/SU108412/ -
Melvyn Bliss - Synthetic Substitution - Sunburst Now Sold
Godzilla replied to waterfall_manc's topic in Record Sales
I thought the plain ones were just promos. There's a coloured logo copy on popsike from 2004 though and I'm sure that was ages before the re-press. Could do with a definitive answer from someone on this. -
Melvyn Bliss - Synthetic Substitution - Sunburst Now Sold
Godzilla replied to waterfall_manc's topic in Record Sales
I've almost bought this a couple of times but stalled as I'm not sure how to tell the difference between the original and the re-press from about five years ago. You see those listed for £50 upwards, which is crazy. Can anybody advise? -
Lots of people think they are somehow related though https://www.popsike.com/php/detaildatar.php?itemnr=111286595049 Painted on ears, the lot of 'em!

The Tiger Dolls / Tiger Doll Show / The Enquires - German Release?
Godzilla replied to Godzilla's topic in Look At Your Box
Yeah I know it's German Benji - like I said, in addition to the script on the label, the agents details are on the rear of the sleeve complete with address in Mannheim. Whether it's any good is subjective for sure but I like both sides. I'm not planning to sell it to be honest, but if I ever changed my mind I'd give you a shout. The fact you haven't seen it before seems to support the idea that it's generally found elsewhere, which is a bit of a puzzle. -
I think that's an underestimate. Here in Scarborough (population 100,000) even discounting the two scooterist clubs that have their own events, there are at least five scenes. Three of them managed to have their nights on the same date in February!
-
I thought you would be too! Here you go: I was hoping Benji or Marc might chip in as well, to be honest

The Tiger Dolls / Tiger Doll Show / The Enquires - German Release?
Godzilla replied to Godzilla's topic in Look At Your Box
Yeah, I didn't hesitate mate. Still hoping that one of our German members might be able to shed a bit more light on the group. -
See below. Correct Jim! Correct Quinvy! Buzzz! Incorrect Sjclement! Although in fairness it's almost identical - except for the tune and the words that is. If giving a song the same title as another qualifies as sampling then surely Ken Dodd should be in for at least a bit of dosh for "Happiness" as it shares almost all the letters found in Happy and is thematically linked to boot. Now can we stop talking about these two boring records and maybe expend a bit of energy on something else. Like my criminally ignored topic about a German blue eyed soul 45 for instance

I thought I'd posted in the past about this 45 but I can't find anything so here goes. I picked up this record some years ago. Both sides are kind of swinging 60s soul pop with a European feel. Reminds me of Doris (Svennson) from Sweden a bit. They certainly look like a bunch of groovers! Funny How love Grows Cold is of course a cover of the Betty Wright song. On the record the act is billed as The Tiger Dolls and The Enquires while the pic sleeve refers to them as The Tiger Doll Show. There's no indication as to the record label so it's possible that they were a show band and the 45 was sold or given away at their gigs. They were managed by the Bachmann Agency in Mannheim, but the little info I've been able to find online suggest that the record is more likely to turn up in The US - or North Yorkshire in my case. It's autographed on the back too! Just wondered if Soul Source members, particularly the German ones can shed on more light on this odd release? Thanks

I think the Hard Times Ice are the same band that did 'Put an X on the Spot in the Sky" on Fantasy - and they were based in France I believe.

Misha Chakk from St Petersburg posts on here too.

I take the first bit back then!

I've seen some of her other videos and it's nice to see her playing guitar. She's obviously a musician and that's nice in this age of talent show wannabes. As far as the song goes though, it doesn't hold a candle to the likes of that Saun & Starr record.
