  1. OOH -Not fair. Still one of my fave blue eyed tunes from the Wig. One of the few I kept when I sold up first time round. And it's still got the tears round the edge of the label where the cover up sellotape was removed. Godz
  2. When I used to run soul nights in sunny Scarborough I always ended with Earl Van Dyke - All For You. It sort of became our club anthem. It's also written into my will that it gets played as I slip into the firey furnace. Yes, I love it that much. Don't want to start an old arguement, but what a top SOUL tune. Godz
  3. S' funny - I usually get up in my pyjamas Godz or we could go for: I got up and opened the door in my pyjama bottoms. What are you doing with a d... ah, never mind
  4. Close Pete. I bought the demo and found to my dismay it was vocal both sides. However I got half my money back (£15) and later picked up an issue with the Inst. I was, however, sufficently sad to place the issue at the back of the box, thus keeping all the nice pink ones together. I also swapped my Connie Questell issue with demonstration stamp for Tim Ashibende's pink promo. He also said I was daft as the issue was rarer but I was driven by completism and asthetic beauty. (well that's how I justify it anyway ) Godz
  5. Karen / Carla / Moira. are we on a girlie name label tip here? Godz
  6. Not me. But in the words of the song "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" Still got my copy of DW though. Pity about the rest of the Decca stuff mind you... Godz
  7. I voted for Decca just for old times sake. I used to collect Decca promos in the 70s much to the consternation of my pals who said that there were much better ones to go for. I just really liked the pink demos and having Johnny Caswell, Connie Questell, Earl Grant, Joey heatherton, Patrick Bradley etc all next to each other looked pretty cool. Slightly spoiled by Pennygold being yellow Oddly enough, the toughest one to get on a promo was Danny White - Cracked Up Over You. Took me bloody ages. Ahh, happy days. Godz
  8. OK Now I understand why Chosen Lot gets listed too Godz
  9. This is out and out garage / psych. I can never understand why it gets listed as Northern. Got one somewhere. If you want it I'll swap it for a nice cheapie. Godz
  10. Where is Beatles band? (one for NME readers from about 24 years ago) G
  11. Is there a mono issue? Mine is in that awful split stereo with half on the left and half on the right. Makes it all a bit weaker. Godz
  12. Think it's Limelight, Jack. Mine reads: Les McCan - Plays the hits - Limelight LS-86041 Some Nice Ramsay Lewis style stuff as well. Must agree about the Tempests LP too - Blinder!! Cheers, Godz
  13. Was it "It's all right with Me" on Capitol? And wasn't Patrice Holloway lead singer on the records? I think Cheryl (Charlies Angels) Ladd was in the group too. I have a few singles in printed Kellogs envelopes Godz
  14. A couple of LPs too. Postage will be slightly more. GAIL WYNTERS - A GIRL FOR ALL SEASONS - (inc You Don't Have To Be in Love, You've Got The Power and I Like Your Kind Of Love) HICKORY - Nice White Promo label + Stamp on cover. EX - £30 FLAMINGOS THEIR HITS THEN AND NOW (inc the superb LP only Nobody Loves Me Like You and loads of other dancers) PHILIPS EX / EX - £25
  15. Ahh, that might make sense. I used to knock about with Dave a bit in the 70s and would definately have played it to him before I went off to do other things in the 80s. I also remember talking to some pals about cover up potential and we spoke about the Sequins or the Vonettes. Maybe someone actually went and did it. Cheeers mate Godz
  16. Many years ago I found "Your Love" on a market stall in Lancashire. Since then I also picked up a copy of "Telling it like it is" which is kind of ok but nowhere near as good as "Your Love" Is there anything else I should look out for and did "Your Love" get played anywhere? Value if any? Thanks, Godz
  17. OK Pete, Just PM'd you. Godz
  18. Pete, Is this actually an example of the dub plates, cos the file name suggests in from a CD? Cheers, Godz Top tune btw!
  19. "Chicago Soul" by Robert Pruter is an excellent starting point. Chapter one is "Chicago at the dawn of the soul era" and it ends with "Chi Sound and the demise of the Chicago Soul Industry". Along the way it takes in chapters on Vee Jay, Chess, Okeh, Constellation, ABC Paramount, Brunswick etc etc. It also looks at smaller entrepeneurs and their labels such as Tarpon, Gerri, Jacklyn and so on. Highly recommended ISBN 0-252-06259-0 Godz
  20. A pal of mine had the Banana Splits LP, which is where I got the J. Radcliffe / B. White info from - and Chalky's right, Carl Spencer is one of the writers too. I found a bunch ( ) of EPs with the album spread across them, in some nice cartoon sleeves. If I was feeling wicked I could bring the black/white - soul/not soul debate in here. Which is most soulful: Jimmy Radcliffe doing the "Banana Split" or Doni Burdick singing "I Have Faith in You"? Godz
  21. That would get my vote too. But I also really like "I just can't help it" - the flip of Everybody Loves a Good Time.
  22. Well of course you would Pete Not baiting again are you? Mind you, "What Love Brings" is really crap innit? Godz
  23. Nicely put Godz
