  1. Is this Dominique anything to do with The Singing Nun? Godz
  2. Just a bit of fun Rachel. I've traded with Pascal in the past. Besides it's the record that's the source of humour, not the seller. Still think it deserves to be in the main section though. In fact I'd promote it to "look at your Box". Godz
  3. Actually, wasn't Danny Fisher an Elvis impersonater or something? Named after a character in one of fatty's films if I remember rightly. Godz
  4. Isley's T-Neck stuff on Major Minor too aint it? Godz
  5. Awww. Now no one will see it Couldn't it stay in the main sales bit for a while so we can have a laugh Godz
  6. And here's picture of Danny Fisher with, I suspect, the very same Karaoke machine used on that track. Thanks for sharing that. Nearly as funny as the Bounty on Kofi's head post in freebasing His awful website for any massochists out there: https://www.dfmusicmagic.com 22 years in the business you know... Godz
  7. Craig W's post about quirky records got me thinking. How about tunes that are almost great northern sounds - but not quite. Might be an awful vocal, stupid lyrics, horrid guitar solo, speeds up or slows down in the middle - you get the picture - something just spoils it. Here's record that I love the sound of but which could never be played out for obvious reasons. Written by HB Barnum, produced by the mighty David Axelrod and sounding like the bastard son of "Thumb A Ride" David 'Man from U.N.C.L.E." McCallum - Communication. Tons better than his album stuff - and what a last line! Enjoy Godz communication.mp3
  8. - pervert! Godz
  9. Balloon please Craig. I like to bend 'em into the shape of little humans to scare junior. Is your copy on Fox or Quality? Nice to know I'm not the only connoisseur of crap on here Godz
  10. Is it Jeri Jorden with The Billy Roland Band? And if so do I get a prize? Godz
  11. I'm never too sure with UK stuff so can anyone help with these? Ike and Tina Turner - Somebody Needs You EP - Warner Brothers WEP 620 (No sleeve - did it have one?) Fats domino - It keeps Rainin' - London HLP 9374 The Forum - The River Is Wide - London HLM 10120 Lonnie Russ - My Wife Can't Cook - Fontana - TF 267263 Thanks in advance Godz
  12. I booked Desmond Dekker for the venue I was running around 1994, The Stage Door in Scarborough. The rider was very specific, including a bottle of Remy Martin Brandy. As we were a small venue with a maximum capacity of 150 (legally...) it was a tough gig as, due to the price of the band, accommodation etc, the best we could hope for was to break even on the door and have a good bar take. I talked it over with the owner who, eventually said f*ck it Paul, if it means that much to you, just do it. The band arrived around 2pm to sound check and be shown to the hotel. Desmond's manager and MC, Delroy did the vocal check while Desmond went to the hotel to rest. I was shocked at how small and frail he seemed and, to be honest was really concerned about how the performance was going to go. Meanwhile, the band were getting stuck into the refreshments and by 7 o'clock it was clear that while the rest of the musicians were drinking beer, the Remy was actually for Delroy and he'd pretty much destroyed it. The air in the dressing room was thick with err.. 'incense" and by now I was getting really worried. Delroy however - despite having the reddest eyes I've ever seen this side of a zombie movie - was all smiles and and assured me it was going to be a great show. 9pm - the place is full and everybody is getting into the rocksteady and dub sounds from the house sound system. The band hits the stage half an hour later, without Desmond but with Delroy MCing and really winding up the crowds anticipation. After a couple of numbers, Desmond appears, wearing a combat shirt and his trade mark beret, walking through audience to riotous applause, cheers, handshakes and pats on the back. He climbed on stage and something truly amazing happened: He seemed to grow about a foot in staure. It was as though he sort of unfolded like a newly hatched butterfly stretching it's wings for the first time. His face was lit up in a sweet smile.. and then came the voice. I'm not ashamed to say I was in tears. You could feel the electricity in the room as the hits and lesser known songs flowed, all equally received by a crowd as ecstatic as I've ever witnessed. The rest of the evening is a bit of a blur now to be honest but the run up to the gig and then Desmond's appearance on stage is a memory that's indelibly stamped into my brain. Probably the finest gig I ever put on. RIP Desmond. Godz
  13. This one maybe, Mark? Justin and Wylde - Pye 7N 45279 1973 . Had this written down in a notebook from pre-computer days. The legend " S " next to it indicates I thought it was shit Godz
  14. I did a post on this topic a few weeks ago. My local second hand shop gets bits of soul, funk and reggae in now and again. I try to establish the going rate for for anything he finds. I let him know and then he usually charges me about 40% of the current value. He makes a profit and gets a value for the stuff I don't want, I get a bargain and first call on whatever he turns up. Everyone is happy Godz
  15. What language is the vocal break of Wynder K Frog's "Green Door" in? Godz
  16. I'm a big fan of people who use the English language language in new and exciting ways. Quote from Miff on the locked IL topic: Take anyone else and give them the money he has had and all the oppertunitys that he has had and they would have done a better job. he has courted infamoury, and releished in its glory, he cares for no one but himself least of all the northern scene only taking out and puttig nothing back. Infamoury - my guess would be "infamous armoury". Quite brilliant in the context actually Godz
  17. Don't mind the organ myself Craig - mind you I like a lot of Garage stuff anyway. I just think that if either the band had been a bit tighter (and had a better singer) or it had a few more quid thrown at it production wise it could have been a belter. Having said that I have a copy and I like it in a quirky way. Value wise, I think around £30 which is mostly down to lack of demand as I imagine it's one of the rarer Stax releases. Godz
  18. Memphis Garage outfit who also recorded as Poor Little Rich Kids. March of dimes is the name for a group of charity organisations that raise money in various states for health related causes. It was started by President Roosevelt after he contracted Polio. Nearly a great record but it not quite right is it? Certainly one of the odder Stax releases. Godz
  19. Actually, I'm with Simon M on this..... ......I think everywhere that I've never been is rubbish too Godz
  20. Couple of pics to go with it Godz
  21. Shhhh - it's on now. Can I have Bree pretty please Godz
  22. Can I have Bree please Rod. Ta v. much Godz
  23. Wake up Gash! It says "UK Labels" Try these Influential on what by the way? If it means getting Brits interested in soul music I would have though Tamla Motown would be up there. Godz
  24. I always thought that it was a re-recording of a track he'd sang lead on in the 60s. Happy to stand corrected if that's not the case Either way he was in the Sunlovers, which makes him top banana in my book. Godz ps - sorry for clumsy mixed metaphor. I don't have a book of bananas - it's a case. Oh hang on, that's measles...
  25. On reflection I'm talking bllx.Might be the Cordells on GTO though... Godz
