  1. Can't believe that you're all arguing about thirty quid when there's a thread about a record that's one hundred and ten thousand dollars with four days to go - and virtually no comments! Godz
  2. Great stuff Pete I always preferred the Velvets softer stuff like this and Sunday Morning to the sonic experimentation. Mind you, you have to love Waiting for the Man of course. Sid Griffin (ex Long Ryders) once led an audience singalong of Femme Fatale in my pub in the 90s. Godz
  3. Why lunatics mate? Sure it's a lot of dosh but it's got to be a sort of holy grail for rock collectors / historians. At least in this case the price reflects it's rarity and importance. Damn lot of money though of course Godz
  4. Well of course it's a record but, well, bloody hell, blimey etc.etc.etc. https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...10309%26fvi%3D1 Godz
  5. Had these hanging round for ages so I thought I'd have a knock at flogging them cheaply. All are pretty much EX condition with maybe one or two at VG. Nothing knackered. 6. I'd love some scans and MP3s if you have time. You can email them to me at mistergodzilla @ Yahoo.com (remove the gaps). Don't think I really have anything to trade. As I said earlier I'm happy to buy but I'm not obsessed enough to spend much. Just want to have a bit of fun with them. Thanks to everyone who has responded so far. I knew there would be fellow nutters on here Godz
  7. Cheers J Brew Missed a couple on eBay before, so I've grabbed this one. Ta very much. Godz Thanks very much Pete. About to PM you Godz Gotta keep my eye out for that one Any chance of an MP3 please? Godz
  8. Got the Action Man one already Pikey (if it's the one where there's a soldier running at you on the cover and battle effects on the flip). Smiths Crisps sounds just the ticket though! I'll PM you. Good start Anyone else? Godz
  9. Hi everyone I'm in the planning stages of starting a records based weblog. It will feature soul and funk 45s, maybe a bit of garage (60s that is!) and 45s that were put out to advertise stuff. I have a few of these already: Manfred Mann's Ski Yoghurt and Michelin themes, a Bush stereo hi-fi 45 (The Big Bush Sound!) and flexis advertising Raleigh Bikes and Cherry B etc. Quite a bit of old tosh like that in fact, and I'd like some more. I realise this is chiefly a soul forum but i know what record collectors are like and I bet I'm not the only one who can't leave a "Welcome To Your Hasboro Mercury Spacecraft Model" 45 in the charity shop. I'm not aiming to become a specialist in this area, it's just a bit of fun, so I'm not going to be paying daft amounts of cash for your Tetley Bittermen flexi If you would like a nominal payment plus postage and would like to see it go to a good home though - I'm your man. Lets see what the Sourcers can do Many thanks Godz ps - there's an old guy in town who gave me a tape of his John Collier "Saturday Night Suit" 45 but won't let me have it so I'd really like one of those to p*ss him off
  10. It's a bit similar in places but no way are they the same song Godz
  11. You're probably right but I think that it may have also had a bit of a resurgence when Afternoon on The Rhino went massive. I remember one of my pals playing it to me in his house covered as Mike Post. When I stopped laughing I sold him a copy of "This Thing Called Love" by Cottage on Crystal covered as The Jewels. Boy were we young eejits back then! Godz
  12. What are you lot on tonight? Classical Gas is by Mason Williams on Warner Brothers. Domino is a song on Warner Brothers by Van Morrison. Domino definately got the odd spin at Wigan but I only ever heard classical gas played out at some hotel back room in Glossop. So there you go Godz ps ... and the horse was called Hercules. Or was that Steptoe's?
  13. They sound completely different The clip on Johns site does sound amazingly close to the so-called Sidney Barnes Orchestra's instrumental to I 'Hurt On The Other Side' though. In fact the percussion and (I suspect synth generated) string sounds are identical. SBO was a Simon Soussan acetate only job from around the same time, so I reckon there's more of the man from LA than Van the disco man on John's auction piece. Godz
  14. Mr Soul (sorry - quote function seems to be a bit iffy on my compy at the mo) Why not in the the thousands mate? You can fit a couple of hundred 45s in a duffle bag and if you're offloading them at or near the port it's not too much hassle. You'd probably have to do it in bulk to appeal to anyone wanting to buy as well - although you'd probably have to sprinkle liberally with Motown / Stax / Atlantic to tempt them. All speculation of course - although my uncle in Liverpool used to buy US rock & roll 45s from dockers in the 60s when the boom had more or less gone. Godz
  15. They wouldn't use morphine as ballast - the ships would get high... Godz
  16. Isn't it just because it looks like one, Paul? That was always my assumption and it seems to be common to most record collectors. Godz
  17. I reckon the clue is the "Port" part of Portsmouth. There are other ways of tranporting goods on ships than using said goods as ballast. Given that American sailors could probably pick up deleted records for next to nothing, and the fact that by the mid 60s there was already a market for soul 45s in the UK, isn't it more likely explanation that there was a bit of trade going on? Godz
  18. My thoughts exactly Mr Munk. I was just going to ask him if he was some kind of BBC news spambot. Godz
  19. I posted a clip of this up last year. I think you said it sounded like Dick and Dee Dee Godz
  20. How about "weeing in the snow". A true classic https://www.tafsc.com/Imbersoul6.htm Godz
  21. Cheers for the info, Mik Would like to hear the live cut out of curiosity. Now, anyone on here able to help out with an HMV / ABC / Sparton copy? Godz
  22. Isn't the HMV / ABC recording taken from a live album Mik? I'm sure it sounded like a club recording with an organ trio backing or something like. Godz
  23. Can anybody help me out with a copy of Della Reese It Was a Very Good Year / Solitary Woman - HMV POP 1533 (UK) or It Was a Very Good Year / Solitary Woman - ABC 10841 (US) Or even (If it's the same recording!) It Was a Very Good Year / I Had to Know My Way Around - Stateside SS 2128 (UK) Thanks in advance guys and gals Godz
  24. Don't think I've heard that before. Nice! Cheers Simon Godz
