  1. I remember this story in the early 70s Malc. Turned out to be bogus. A mate and I were discussing this not long ago, and afterwards I remembered I had a CBS sampler type LP with Holiday on it. Plays Holiday same as the 45. Actually when you think about it you can shout "The Kid' along to the tune as well. Godz
  2. You keep bloody editing your post! Fifty quid. Blimey! John might be able to achieve that price but I'm pretty sure I could never Especially for a tune that sounds like a white stomper even though it's by a black guy... Godz
  3. Yeah, hoped I'd get a little bit more for a demo but I'm not kidding myself that it would be an easy item to shift these days. Cheers anyway mate Godz
  4. Danny Williams - Whose Little Girl Are You - Deram Demo First issue with inverted Matrix No. They didn't produce promo copies of the 2nd Issue anyway. Don't think anyone would dare play this out nowadays but interested to know going rate. Cheers Godz
  5. I didn't even realise she was white. Looks like she eventually started singing again though: Two singles for Stax/Volt, produced by Dave Crawford, that's all she cut before retiring from performing, some say under threat of the Ku Klux Klan. Was convinced to resume her career at the opening of the Stax Museum in Memphis in May 2003. I guess that's where the second pic is from. Only two singles though. Scandalous. What a waste of an amazing talent. Totally agree with your sentiments Dukesy. Godz
  6. Looks like you did - twice! Godz
  7. Gary Glitter First, Raven joined the Mike Leander Show Band in early 1965. Then he was deputised to produce a few recording sessions by such artists as Thane Russell and a Scottish beat group, the Poets. Finally, after Leander's band fell apart, Raven formed Boston International with saxophonist John Rossall, and this group spent the following five years touring between the UK and Germany and recording occasionally From Wikipedia Godz
  8. Because of the film's budget, those who take on background roles won't be paid and may even be asked to perform in their own 70s clothes and dancing shoes. So is it a horror film or a comedy? Godz
  9. Didn't know that Karen. How about director Gavin Claxton? Looks like he chose the tracks. His Myspace page plays Doris Troy as well. Godz
  10. Just stumbled across this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_All_Together Apologies if it's already been discussed. Anybody got more info? Cheers Godz
  11. Are you including funk 45s Rod? If so there's always Funkadelic's "Fish, Chips and Sweat". Even includes a bit of compensation for lack of vinegar on Esko affair Also, if you fancy spreading the net a bit wider (ahem..) I think there's a reissue of Nashville Teens "Tobacco Road" with "Chips and Peas" on the flip. All that's missing now is a mug of tea and a Newbeats song for a fine fish supper. Godz
  12. "I baptise this child ...err.. are you absolutely sure about this Mr and mrs Hart? Godz
  13. More surf than soul but it did get spins on the Scene: The Centuries - Jack 23 on Cleopatra. And here's a bit for trivia fans - the psychedelic noises on the intro were also used on a UK EP, namely The Daleks on Gerry Anderson's Century 21 label. I guess the sound must have originated on a library sound effect record or something. Godz
  14. Me mam always told me "you can't argue with a man you can't understand" I don't know how to Dagenham but I was once caught Altringham Godz
  15. You're just talking shiyte now surely Godz
  16. Yippee! I'm right!! I should have also had a bet with him that you'd be the first to answer this question. We agreed you'd know and the fact that you're from the Midlands makes you just about impartial Cheers Pete. Godz
  17. So I had lunch today with a mate of mine who's into the reggae / skinhead side of things as well as soul and R&B. I'd done him a CD comp and which included The Beas on Pama. Thing is we both pronounce it differently, Pama that is. He's from Somerset and I'm originally from Manchester just to complicate things further. We need a definintive answer, so: Is it pronounced "Pamma" (as in Gamma, Mama, err... Rama Lama Ding Dong) or is it " Parma" ( as in calmer, Llama, Jeffrey Dharma)? What does the team think? Godz
  18. They're really stretching the definition of RnB these days aren't they? Godz
  19. Good call on Dawn Penn though I can think of a lot worse things to listen to. Godz
  20. One of my all time favourite Jamaican tunes, Pete. I'd happily settle for a reissue of this on 7" in anybody has one. Godz
  21. And let 15/16 year olds have the experience I did around at that time? Hell yeah! It'll never happen though. At that time there weren't as many middle aged old gets determined to keep their precious scene for themselves Godz
  22. Godzilla

    Cloths

Yes, Mischief - for the wifes... Godz
  23. Is there any way that you can search the site for posts from a couple of years ago? I threw up a scan of this 45 when we were talking about Peachtree but (embarrasingly) I can't remember where I got mine from. I'm pretty sure it was Dutch or Belgian - do they have anti-slip grips on their 45s? It was definately sold to me as a European issue and it came from Europe. It has the name "L Voorn" stamped on in ink if that's any help. Cheers Godz
