Hey no sweat Tony. It's probably in the book about about Levy and Roulette that you told me to read. I did and enjoyed it but my recall is clearly rubbish. In my defence though, I did say "from what I remember". Given we've established I have a crap memory surely that let's me off the hook. Possibly. Finally, and going even further off topic, I thought I'd heard another Limelites record (or b side) with Sheppard singing without that kind of 'affected' accent that your hear in Doo Wop. Know what I mean? Like the difference between Gene Chander and Jackie Wilson's earlier / later records. Is there a term to describe it? Am I making myself clear even? if not it's back to the self chastisement till the postman comes. I really should rephrase that last sentence.

Lots of my records have a white label instead of the usual one and have "not for sale" written on them. And they wonder why they weren't hits - Durr!

Why would they have to do that? Surely they'd have the master, I mean, it's not as though she was some obscure artist. Anybody heard/got the CD - the one with the nudey cover? Come to think about it, anybody got a copy of Bluebeard

		Mca Records

Mind you some of them were available on US MCA imported into the UK shortly before the British releases. Definitely Joey Heatherton and quite a few of the others I recall. Anyway, some Decca promos might be a bit thin but on the whole I always thought the label's vinyl was pretty good. I do remember that clearly as I used to collect them (edit) oops - just seen Pete's post above. at least we can add Joey to that list

Overseas airmail £2.00 or signed for / insured at cost. Still have some left from previous sale and happy to provide clips for any of these too Link to Previous Sales Burning Bush - Keeps on Burning - Mercury Promo SOLD Terrific Blue Eyed, vibes laden stomper. Discovered by our own Ady Croasdell I believe. Condition VG+with a few surface scuffs. A good play/DJ copy Jimmy Norman - I'm Leaving (this old town) - Mercury Promo SOLD His best without doubt. A Johnny Brantley production with a rhythm section sounding more like Pied Piper (think September Jones). One for the discerning playlists. Great, glossy NM copy Del Royals - Man of Value - Mercury Promo £30 Now £25 Easily the best version - proper instruments rather than synths and a better vocal for my money. £100 book price I understand. This double sided promo is pretty beat on one side but the other copy is VG and really plays nice - check clip Patti Page - You Don't Need A Heart - Columbia Promo SOLD "If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air..." Yep, Patti Page with a version of the Teddy Randazzo classic. Arguably a stronger backing track too. Condition NM and beautifully shiny The Stingers - I Refuse To Be Lonely - Stax £70 Now £60 Cracking stomper. A rare one for the label and possibly the most "Northern" sounding Stax 45. Beware promos with the flip on each side! EX due to two very light surface marks but vinyl retains full gloss

Surely Shep is James Sheppard of Shep and the Limelites fame? Never thought he was anyone else and from what I remember the voices sound pretty much like same person.

If you google "HTFR" and "bootlegs" you'll probably get plenty of hits. Allegedly renowned for it.- Whats The Rarest Re-issue

 - Northern Soul 'urban Myths'
So is Bethnal Green hospital in Pinner?- cue-burn'
I used some decks that had been set up for a club night when I did a Sunday Morning gospel set. Knacked a couple vinyl 45s just by cuing them up and swapped for my own headshells. When I spoke to the DJ later he said he's just fitted new elliptical styli and said it was because he mixed but didn't scratch. Apparently ellipticals are notorious for shredding records on the rewind.- cue-burn'
This is so much tosh. Polystyrene is more a brittle material than vinyl and records made from the substance are prone to cue burn. Elliptical styli dig deeper into the groove and can even cause cue burn on vinyl if rocked on the beginning of the track. Weight can be an issue as can tracking but not necessarily. Talk to people outside of the soul scene if you want proof that it's not a myth.- Original Vinyl Only ?
