Danny Monday - Baby Without You - Orig Version?
Stevecee replied to Stevecee's topic in Look At Your Box
Hmmm, I suspected he actually said 'worse' on both after hearing the 2nd version, but for some reason I always thought the original version sounded like 'bad', would explain why people would say they have only heard the 'worse; version Cheers -
Hey folks Having never had the pleasure of owning an original of this track I have always wondered which mix was the original and discussion about it usually leads to even more confusion as most people say they only know one version. The first one I remember was the one where he says "Please Don't Let It Get Bad" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdQCcQUgndI The other is a much different mix and he says "Please Don't Let It Get Worse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeE-2yCdRZg Apologies for using youtube, coudln't find these on refo Cheers Steve

Hey Mike First guy to organise coaches in our area that I can remember was Besty (Mike Best) from Wareham who stopped in 78 and in 79 when the old guard seemed to move on I started the 12 Man mini buses from Poole station and found it harder and harder to fill them as more people lost interest until we ended up with Car and Train Trips in 1981. Some of the folks from the later days apart from yourself where Pete Kitching, Dave Jackson, Karen Warne, Gary Samways, Smiler, Louisa, Harry, Andy Cole, Speedie, Andy Robinson, Gary Horsfall, Martin Adams and Herbie. Cheers Steve

Yeah he seemed a nice guy, I got a load of stuff off him 4/5 years ago, he had that Website where you typed in a name in his search engine went and made tea and it had just about finished searching by the time you were back. He had some excellent stuff especially 70s Soul although as you say he didn't like selling his last copy. Just checked my database and the best bargain I got was Ernest Baker 'Alone Again' out of there for 20 dollars , but also Choice of Color, Innersection, and multiples of lots of major label biggies like Mandrill, Bobby Womack, Bill Harris, Bettye Swann etc... happy days Cheers Steve

Yep, Mike Cook, formerly of Poole/Bournemouth who does spots in the SWest and has been Cookie (due to his surname) since I have known him and thats as far back as the late 70s I very much doubt he is aware of the clash of names and cetainly wouldn't be doing it on purpose You can contact him through https://www.southwestsoulclub.co.uk/ Cheers Steve

Fun topic! Shortly after getting the Soul bug in the mid 70s I was stood waiting for a mate getting some fishing bait from a shop on the Quay in Poole Harbour. As I stood there I noticed a box of 45s so to fill the time I took a look and pulled out a Jason Knight on Uk Pye which was known but a great tune at the time. I then noticed it was 10 for 10 pence or something similar so grabbed a handful, paid and left. When I got home I had the Visitors on Dakar, Legends on Commwealth Utd and 2 copies of the Differences on Mon'ca. Now this was never a Northern tune back then, but owing to my lack of records I promptly added one to my collection and put the other in a Sales box. My mates all said it was rubbsih and wasn't Northern Soul, but I liked it and to annoy them wrote Northern Soul on the label and played it at local do's No idea where that or my spare went but ofc its well regarded now, and if you have a copy with Northern Soul scrawled in young lads handwriting its my fault! Cheers Steve

I always thought Yate was one of the very best Allniters with many unique sounds and can't see why Kent with their obvious Yate connections haven't put a CD out. I know we discussed this a couple of years ago, but as far as I know nothing has happened. Whilst we used to go to Wigan at the same time, Yate had its own feel, sometime bordering on the crazy, but always fun! Tunes I will always associate with it are Leon Thomas - LOVE Connie Questal - Give Up Girl Dean Courtney - Love You Just Frank Beverly - Because Of My Heart Deena Johnson - Sad Girl Gambrells - Jive Talk Sweethearts - Beauty Is Just Skin Deep Joanne Courcey - I Got The Power Patti Labelle - Lovin Rules Kris Peterson - Just As Much Hokis Pokis - Swing Harold Melvin - Love I Lost Miracle Workers - Overture Miroslave Virteous - NY City Royal Five - Say It To My Face Rufus Lumely - Stronger Than Me Sterling Magee - Keep On Del Counts - Another Guy Shamets - Don't Waste Four Tracks - Like My Love Tojo - Brokenhearted Lover Theo Coff - Lucky Day Ty Karim - You Really Made It Good To me And plenty more... Most nights were memorable, but most clear are Garry Rushbrooke and Dave Withers guest nights, Ian Stewart selling that huge collection, the night the gear broke down and we built snowmen in the carpark instead..... Happy times Cheers Steve

Hi mate, stranger indeed, just had the busiest 18 months of my life, but things are finally slowing down!! I am well though mate, thanks for asking Cheers Steve PS Did I ever send you that Gang Band scan/mp3?
-
Nice one mate, one from the dim and distant past.. still remember playing this over and over again from that RCA LP Dickie put out Cheers Steve
-
You are right mate, early on Russ had some great tunes, but later he definately lost his way, most of the regulars from 79 onwards would catch up with friends, do the record bar etc rather than hit the floor. Thats not to say he didn't play the odd good tune mate, but lets be honest he ended up as a support act for Dickie, Sam, Pat B, Rushbrooke et all We still owe him a great deal however! Cheers Steve
-
Yes it was a Biggie for Gary R - hardly mentioned these days, here's a scan Cheers Steve Wild_Sound_Unlimited.bmp
