It was to be a good dozen years before I obtained a copy for my collection. It's a tough one as you can see NOV - D Clarence Townsend I Found A New Love Clara 312 M- 450 A few copies came along in the middle nineties only to vanish quicker than a Carlos Tevez promise! Has proved tough to locate in the intervening years. Top quality 60s with loads of deejay potential NOV - E Ty Karim You Just Don't Know Romark 113 VG++ 1500 Top quality West Coast Northern Soul from a singer with real identity and SOUL. A very strong VG++ amounts to mint minus with just some minor marks that are very difficult to see NOV - F Old(M)Pressions Right On Brooks Bros VG++ 300 Arthur and Richard Brooks were early members of the Impressions who left to get grips with a grittier sound. In terms of hits this was a disaster but rare soul aficionados aren't that fickle. Even as late as this 1978 release they were still making very obscure music. A lot of the new tunes crossed over from one venue to another, as the top Dj's visited them. I agree, Ian Lavine, no matter what we may all think of him now, was the man. Early 70's at the Mecca, was absolutely unbelievable for new tunes. Makes me chuckle sometime when people go on about so called "Wigan tunes" that were played at the Highland room long before the Casino. Some of the smaller venues around at the time, like Dave mentioned, had their share of new discoveries. At the end of the day, it was all there waiting to be discovered then. So it doesn't really matter who played what, where, and who discovered what, but it was a magical time to be young and hearing the best music ever made for the very first time. I can still remember vividly hearing Johnny Sayles and Linda Jones for the first time..........both seminal experiances, both in my all time top 10.

Ask yourselves these questions- How many people in the entire UK are there, that go out on a regular basis and want to hear, rare/underplayed/progressive or whatever you want to call it? How many people attend events simply because their mates will be there, and the music is secondry? How many Dj's are there on "The Scene" who you would travel 50 miles+ to go and listen/dance to? How many people are at events simply because they want a spot there at a future date? How many events are there where you can go and enjoy/dance to the majority of the music played in the night? Answer those questions honestly, and you start to realise why so many events fail to get the numbers in.
