  1. Hilarious contradiction there Joan.
  2. God has spoken..........now I remember why I don't come on here anymore. What's the matter Joan, have you been playing it lately? Touched a nerve? I thought you hated Wigan oldies..........I can't be arsed arguing with you anyway. I should know by now you are always right. And if you want to read something toe curling, you should read some of your own posts sometime.
  3. Read the post, I never said people didn't know it, I just said that when Karl played it everyone suddenly wanted it again. Hence the rise in price.
  4. I understand that Karl Heard was featuring this in his set last year, and it caused quite a stir. Of course all the bandwagon jumping wannabe Dj's have been chasing it ever since. Hence the price. To me, it's never been an easy record. I have owned a couple over the years, but both were battered. A mint copy would fetch a premium now I think.
  5. I think this book could turn out to be a best seller Andy / Nicola. And by the sound of it, could run into several volumes. I think that everyone loves a good story, and indeed I have listened to a few over the years. Well done for taking this on, and I for one can't wait to read it.

  8. Your lists were the most important things in my life back in the early 70's Brian. Despite the fact that by the time my letter had found it's way to Middleton, most of the 45's I wanted had gone. If only I'd had the means to visit your house, like I've been told a lot of people did in those days. It's easy to forget just how difficult it was to get around then, especially for a 16 year old kid. Great memories though. I even had an understanding with my boss at work that, every time I got a Soul Bowl list, I could spend the first hour on the phone re-dialing trying to be the first to get through at 9.00 am. Then work over an extra hour to make up the time. Again, I never got the 45's I was after. Thanks for posting the list up. Funny as I was in Dave Box's company on Tuesday and we were just discussing your old list.

  10. Second issues surely...............
  11. It's wrong, but the reason the promoter keeps quiet is they haven't got the balls to say anything to the DJ. Don't want to upset anyone and risk loosing money. What you describe in your earlier post is exactly what the scene is. One big social scene, with music in the background. So called upfront all nighters that are only on 4 times a year. How the f**k can you make a record popular when the punters never hear it. And everyone on here attends events that play boots, and turns a blind eye because it's just a social night. That's why all this OVO subject is a load of bollocks, because no one really cares. The only people who could stop it are the promoters. But if they did, nobody would turn up.
  12. Give the guy a break he's German.........don't know about you but my German spelling is far worse than his English.
  13. There would be no one left to take part in the poll.
  14. Post of the thread, and I think it puts across the feelings of the majority very eloquently. I don't think there's anymore to say. Well put sir.
  15. Wonderful record, but very hard to sell for some strange reason.
  16. Thanks for all the answers guys. I was offered one and when I saw it in the wants section I was hoping to make a few quid. But obviously not. I havent worked for a while so need to try and earn a bit when possible.
  17. Bob, do you have this 45? the issue is very rare.
  18. Hello Mark.......
  19. Speak up Mark me old mucker..............
  20. Totally agree Andy, and I know you are in it for the long haul. But for anyone wanting to do that now! well I'm afraid time's against them, and unless they are very wealthy, we'll all be dead before they get a good box together. lol I notice even the mighty Kitch is letting some holy grails go. Time and tide wait for no man, and retirement and security have to come first. Sad but true. Hopefully I'll soon be back buying 45's.... This time next year Rodney, we'll be millionaires........
  21. Never been a collector Andy. I just bought records I thought were fantastic to play at my all nighter. Simple as that. Totally "lived it" for a few years, but found it impossible to sustain my passion as I struggled to maintain a lifestyle that was way beyond my income. [i.e. all my worldly goods were invested in a couple of very small record boxes] and the other people involved were letting me down. I think if most people were honest, they would have to say that their records were for Dj'ing. If I were a wealthy man then yes I would love to have a nice collection. But though you may not like to admit it, rare soul 45's are a valuable commodity, and as such can be used to get people out of sticky financial situations. I was being made redundant a couple of years ago, my records helped pay off my mortgage and my huge credit card bill. Glad I did it now as I still haven't had any work since then. I still have some money left and am now buying my own business. I agree the music is fantastic, but there isn't enough fresh quality northern to sustain my interest, and I think there's a lot of other people feel the same way. I admire your passion Andy, and wish you all the best.
  22. Quite understand what you are saying Cookie, I think there are a lot of people going through the same dilema. Totally disillusioned with it all myself. Good luck with what ever you decide on.
  23. I personally think Tim Brown is the fairest dealer, and he has the money. The problem is Cookie, they all have to make a living, so you will probably only get half of their full value from any of the big dealers. Sorry to see another stalwart having to sell up. I hope you can get a good deal chuck. Please pass on my regards to Nick, hope all is well. Phil. p.s. What sort of numbers are we talking about Cookie?
