Is there a sound file anywhere? I'll probably love that seeing as you hate it.

Many a true word spoken in jest Chalky. Makes me laugh when the experts on here say that all the stuff played at Burnley is well known to all. Funny how no bugger ever played it until we did. Even Butch would play Burnley records after each of his visits to Burnley. I remember going down to the 100 club the week after he had guested for me and he went on and played half my set. He even took to playing some of the cheapies that Karl was hammering. Also it's a fact that when Burnley was on every month, the demand and prices of big Burnley plays went through the roof. And I will meet either Ian C or Chalky at the next Burnley when Cliff Camfield is on, and they can tell me what all the records he plays are. I would love to know. I still don't know what half the records were that were played over the three and a half years that we ran it. Cliff covered everything and so did Karl come to that.

I'll tell you what prompted this thread. When I read about this great new discovery that was on auction and was expected to make 2k I couldn't wait to hear it. My God! it's hard to imagine that we all like the same style of music sometimes. I see myself as the voice of common sense on here. You lot have been taking drugs for too long and standing too close to the speakers, you've all lost the plot. I'm off to play some classic oldies.
-
No but like every other Dj around you wanted to. The reason it was never packed was because I ran it in a professional manner, and stayed true to my principals. Karl was the most innovative and successful Dj that has emerged on this scene for many years. And even though he worked all over the country, he always saved his best stuff for Burnley. The point I was trying to make was this. If the top Dj's on the scene are playing records like Sir Joe, and the consensus on the scene is that this is a great record, then I'm hardly going to think wow, I must go out and hear more stuff like this. I've just played it again, and it's dreadful.
-
Thanks Nev I'll try that.
-
Also, you always went home early Ian, and didn't experience the whole 8 hours. Karl and Cliff always played something a bit different.
-
I was talking about the big name Dj's in the main, but I booked other Dj's that Cliff recommended. And without exception the ones Cliff suggested were top notch. I also made the mistake of listening to some other people's recommendations with disastrous results. And you may have known all the records played but you never heard them all played in one night. No fillers, just quality.
-
Some people are very easily impressed. Sorry I can't do smileys on this ipad
-
How do you work out it failed? Because it didn't drag on for twenty years going through the motions? It broke the mold and played quality dance music from start to Finnish. Many people said it spoilt them for when they went anywhere else. If you read my post properly I said new to me. We are all aware that you know everything Chalky, but the fact is we played stuff that a lot of people didn't know, and instead of playing 6 great records in a set of mediocre stuff, we played all the great records one after the other. I regard Cliff Camfield as the best Dj out there. He has the taste and he keeps finding Great Dance music that nobody else is playing.
-
I would love to go out and hear some new quality tunes, and I spent years and years going all over the country trying to find some. There was very little of quality out there. That's why I started my own nighter, so I could hear some decent new to me tunes. Anyone can play an hour of stuff that no one has heard before. The problem is you'll never want to hear them again because they are rubbish. I also spent years travelling round the country to listen to Dj's that were highly regarded so that I could book them for my event. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. With the exception of Butch, Andy Dyson and Kitch I never heard anyone that impressed me enough to book them. It's all down to taste, or should I say the lack of it. How can you hope to inspire dancers when you don't dance? And I've heard the stuff you play, and I stand by what I said.
-
If it was available for a tenner, would you buy it? We are all desperate to hear something new, but at some stage you have to wake up and admit that all the good stuff has been found. Try going out without taking drugs or getting pissed. A great deal of the stuff being played now has nothing to do with northern.
-
You knew what I meant John. I still don't get it. Rarity over quality in my humble opinion. 2 grand for that is madness.
-
Played this a few times now on some good speakers loud, and I just don't get it Words that spring to mind are, barrel, scraping and bottom.

Marjorie Black One More Hurt Demo Diff Take From Issue?
Quinvy replied to slimharpo's topic in Look At Your Box
No it's a fact that the white demo is the only way to own this brilliant tune. The issue is very muffled with too much bass and Marjorie's voice lower in the mix. The demo is much sharper/crisper with Marjorie's voice to the fore. Same goes for Bobby Garrett- I can't get away. The demo is superb and on styrene. The issue is terrible quality with very low volume. -
If it's any good it won't need that Steve. Word of mouth and personal media will make it a must see, and a big hit. My fingers are still firmly crossed.

It's called hot boxing and it's the future.

All Is All What It Seems In Manships Auction?
Quinvy replied to Ric-tic's topic in All About the SOUL
Bloody hell, look out mate he'll be threatening you with legal action. He's done it with me a few times. There's only so much integrity when there's money involved. If you want to be certain of a fair deal, then you have to sell the stuff yourself. -
The thing is it ain't rarity that fetches the big prices, it's the big Wigan era stuff. Some very rare 45's have gone for peanuts in comparison. I love Gwen Owens by the way, and Eddie Parker come to that, but not that much.
-
Just incredible.........what recession.

Benji there's a Romance Watson on the Anglo American list that I put up in sales today. Give RIck a call or send him an email mate. Best regards, Phil.

Yes, it was Tim's copy that went for big money Kev. I had always thought the demo was around £150- £200 but obviously not. To be honest, you don't see it for sale much these days. If I hear of one, I will let you know.
