Juan Williams - "i Check My Mail Box Everyday" Blue Soul
Quinvy replied to Manfromsoul45s's topic in Record Sales
Shit I missed that. How much was it? I can't find your post? -
You would never get a good copy for 2.5k unless the seller was insane. Man O Man is in my all time top ten. T'other side isn't in the same ball park.
-
Absolutely agree mate, it's all personal opinions at the end of the day. I'm not really a soul music fan, I just love what we used to call northern. If it makes me want to dance and it's soulful, then it's fantastic in my book. I once bought the Dave Godin's deep soul treasures Cd. I had to phone the Samaritans when it had finished.
-
Can't agree to that Dave. I would love a copy at £15. Again I think it's all down to what type of records you enjoy. I'm looking at it from a dance music perspective. As soon as I heard it I thought it was very special, and I didn't know it was rare at that time. The same goes for the Little Major Williams 45. Instantly I thought, Wow, what a tune. and don't forget I'm not a fan of 70's music at all. Dance floor Viagra.
-
It's nothing like it though. Joseph Webster is a very special record.
-
I'd say that was a bargain, more like £4k.
-
I can't believe you are serious.
-
I thought it had Mark. I'm sure it's been released as it's been played at my local oldies night, and I'm certain none of the Dj's there have an original.

I see you advised them on how to put talc on the floor though Paul. He he!
-
I agree with her Dave.

Inez Fox is incredible. Sexy yet so soulful. I had forgotten what a masterpiece that track is. Thanks Pete great stuff.
-
Sounds like he's having a fit Pete. Pity because the rest of the track is excellent.

Mr Manship Does It Again. So How Much Is This Gonna End At?
Quinvy replied to Harry Crosby's topic in Look At Your Box
Pretty sure that copies of Court Davis turned up in "the big find" a few years ago. JM could still be "dripping them out" along with all the others. I must say that he's done a great service to collectors in the way he has slipped the 45's out very carefully. If they had all come onto the market at once they would be worth peanuts by now. Look what happened to Jackie Day. -
It always fetches good money when I see it for sale. Especially if it hasn't got the dreaded cue burn on the intro.
-
That must have been after my time as I don't know him. But Stuart Bennett regularly plays it.
-
It doesn't get played because of the tempo, that and the fact there's not many about. It's pure quality though, and that Detroit backing track is to die for. I would have played it if I'd been lucky enough to have owned one. Very atmospheric when played out.
-
Have all the copies got the demo sticker on? I've seen three and they all had it.
-
It's been played out for years. Atmospheric record.

Just Because It Goes On Manships Auction
Quinvy replied to Ernie Andrews's topic in Look At Your Box
The stanky price explosion was down to Fred Krol digging it out one night at Burnley and giving it a spin. There was a mass stampede for the stage, and by the next day all the dealers had been bought out. I don't think it was ever played again at Burnley and I think Fred was quite embarrassed by it all. -
I think I have made my point. The people that said the stuff played at Burnley was well known have refused my offer of meeting me at the next allnighter and telling me what Cliff's plays are. There was so much jealousy and politics going on in the background it's a wonder it lasted as long as it did. According to the only people that matter to me, the Burnley regulars, it was the best allnighter in the country at the time. Their words not mine.
-
It's absolutely true. And I didn't mean he played them because I had. I apologise if I gave that impression. I meant he was reminded of how good they were when he was at Burnley, so he dug them out of his collection and played them. Even the greatest can be inspired by the plebs. Every time I have asked Butch about records from the past that I had never heard, he has always dug them out and played them next time I have seen him. A true proffessional who isn't affected by all the politics on the scene.
-
What's the matter Ian, I was hoping you were going to tell me what all Cliff's records were. After all they are all played out oldies that you and Chalky have known about for years.
-
I'm surprised at that. The first time I heard Parliaments and Johnny Praye I loved them both.
-
Yes but you also want that dreadful Soul Dynamics 45 so you've obviously had a taste bypass John. Love Phil.
