  1. Saints, what a record. Wish I had the money.
  2. I thought the scene had had it when I sold up in 1976. Twenty plus years later when I came across the Goldmine Cd's in a record shop in Burnley quite by accident. I couldn't believe my eyes. Must have looked hilarious as I gasped and grabbed every Cd in the rack and tried to stagger to the till without dropping them. I couldn't believe the scene was still going, and couldn't believe the stuff I had missed. Also couldn't believe that one of my old mates had had such a massive impact on the scene. I personally really regret missing out on the 80's. To me looking at what was played in that era, it was the golden age. If only I had known.
  3. It was played at Burnley Steve. Pm me if you want to know by whom.
  4. Many thanks to you both.
  5. Sorry to bring this up again if everyone has been discussing it, but I don't get on here as much these days. Are we any nearer a release date?
  6. Never understood why some people need to be off their tits to find this kind of music uplifting.
  7. Shoot me down in flames by all means, but wasn't Mr. M's the beginning of the end?

  9. It's the only way to keep your set together for a decent period of time. There are an awful lot of people at allnighters who are just there to find something to add to their own set. Why should a person spend many hours and lots of money trying to find some quality lesser known tunes to play so that others can copy his or her set without doing any work? It's always been part and parcel of the rare soul scene, and it adds to the atmosphere. Long may it continue.
  10. Try Cliff Camfield, TEDDY EDDY on this forum.
  11. Tim Brown had a Judy Freeman issue a while ago. Could be worth a call to Anglo American.
  12. Very enjoyable night that was. Would have been superb to have witnessed these artists in their pomp. The Gladys Knight & the Pips clip just showed what an incredible act they were. Totally effortless performance. Just a shame that the song was one of their worst.
  13. The best dancers these days are the ladies in my humble opinion. On the whole they have looked after themselves better than us blokes and are lighter and fitter. Lets face it, back in the day we all went out to listen and dance to the music. Now most of us are knackered we all want to be Dj's. hence no bugger dancing and lots of blokes standing around stroking their chins while tutting and shaking their heads and muttering "what's this shit he's playing?"
  14. Many thanks, that is amazing sound quality for a live recording. Brilliant tune.
  15. Somebody put up a soundfile of Butch's Just Brothers - Go on and Laugh a while ago and I can't for the life of me find it. Can any kind soul supply me with a link please? Phil.
  16. Strange how we agree on most tunes but not all. I was very disappointed with Butch's Diane Lewis. He was good enough to dig it out and play it for me at Burnley along with many more that I had only heard about from Cliff and Stuart. I personally think that the Diane lewis is far more poppy than the Jean Carter, but everyone to their own.
  17. That recording is slightly slower than the real thing. Wasn't this done by recording from the decks at the Dome? I'm pretty sure Butch would never have allowed it to be done if he had known.
  18. No sorry I never asked him about that one as I didn't realise at the time it was an acetate.
  19. Hear, hear. I love the Jean Carter acetate, and Butch told me the artist is unknown. But the Mighty Lovers acetate is on another level.

  21. Sorry posted in wrong place.
  22. A few years ago I nipped out of work one night to go to the supermarket for some food. Radio2 is always set on the radio in my car and there was a program on that night all about this very topic. Obviously I couldn't listen to the whole show, but the gist of it was that, Liverpool was set to become THE soul Capitol of the Uk in the early sixties. But the Mersey Beat exploded and soul music was pushed out of the picture. Manchester took over the soul town mantle.
  23. No it didn't mate it went for 3k. I know because I bought it. Still thought it was bloody cheap at that. Brownie got a fortune for his copy. Hope you are well Tony.
  24. I did see that but I was too late. I thought you meant today. Love Debbie Curtis and never managed to own it.
