  1. James Lately just a dirge to my ears. Don't think anyone would be interested it it wasn't rare. Just my personal opinion of course.
  2. Not fair for whom? I think there's only one winner don't you?
  3. Come on Marc. There were a lot of the Cautions turned up in the big find. I've had three, and Manship has been slipping them out ever since, all mint. It's certainly not a rare record anymore.
  4. I don't think it is Byrney. If the oldies crowd get to hear tunes from the Stafford era through to today, they will dance to them. If you look at stuff that people like Ginger have got and then played in their sets they have gone on to be massive on the oldies scene. If the Dj's on the oldies scene slip the odd one into their set, after a while the dancers will get used to them. Look at tunes like "Jeanette" wasn't that a Butch spin years ago? Massive at the oldies clubs.
  5. Yes, Dickie never had Sandy Golden.
  6. The first ones that were played definitely had that "northern" quality Barry. But most of the stuff that I have heard lately, have been dreadful. I would be insulted to be played them at a northern do. Not even danceable.
  7. Maybe we should use the terminology that they use on the various car forums that I frequent. They have the same heated debates about "Classics" vs "New Age" versions of the same marque. Both are now old cars, but the arguments still persist.
  8. How can there be an oldies vs newies debate, when there aren't any newies. The records that are seen as newies these days are actually "Funk" records, and bear no resemblance to "northern"
  9. How much is Morris Chestnut Warren?
  10. How many copies of SG are known?
  11. Let's hope it turns up sooner than the film, we're not getting any younger you know.
  12. Who cares it's utterly brilliant. If only we could find some more of the same ilk.
  13. No, it's fookin class my friend. In fact it sounds even better now than it did back in the day. One I never managed to obtain.
  14. It doesn't matter how good the Dj is Brian, if you don't like funk edged, Latin, crossover and modern it's irrelevant.
  15. I've been to plenty as well, sat there bored shitless with everyone else pretending it's great. Eventually someone will play a half decent record, but because of all the crap you've been bombarded with, this record now sounds like the best record you have ever heard. Next day you buy it, then when it comes and you play it at home and...................it's just a half decent record.
  16. Like I said, if mixing up all those musical genres in one room is what does it for you then good luck to you. It just doesn't do it for me, and never has. The OP asked the question is there a future for northern soul? Well for me there isn't. Were as for you there obviously is. This question is far from unique to northern soul is it? You only have to look at other musical genres to realise that they are all re recording the same old material over and over again. DOOMED, WE'RE ALL DOOMED I TELL YOU.
  17. There are some venues that play "everything from two-steppers and 80's dancers to funky edge, the odd oldie or two and Butch's hardcore 60s "one offs" and everything in between", but the majority don't, and never have, and certainly not in the same room, and never will ! Thank God for that.
  18. The people who want there to be a future will make it happen no doubt. But the way you describe the European scene has nothing to do with what made me get "into it." You are welcome to the scene if that's the future. Keep the faith my arse.
  19. At last, the voice of reason.
  20. Has to be at least £400 on rarity alone. We all know the price guides are just that, a guide.
  21. Reckon it's a toughie I do.
  22. Blimey! I sold one for £200 years ago.
  23. Hear, hear. Pure class.
  24. Wow! nice list Ady. Billy Hines is an absolute steal.
  25. Bargain Benji, one of my all time favourite records.
