  1. There's no way I'm going to sit down now and write a definitive list. If you don't know what the most wanted 45's on the planet are by now then you must be an imbecile. When one comes up on ebay there will be a thread about it on this forum. How much will this go for?
  2. Yes but they have been saying the arse will fall out of it since Wigan ended. Well before that actually, I thought it was over around 76 with all the pop at Wigan and the New York disco at the Mecca. I bailed out then and didn't realise that it had carried on until someone told me around 2000. First I couldn't believe it was still going, then he said they were still taking drugs 30 years down the line. now that I didn't believe.
  3. With respect I disagree. The big lads have been the big lads for many years, and there are new big lads that get added to the list as we go on. As an example I would say that; Billy Bird - Lost In The Crowd - Scream has become a big lad. This has a different type of sound but it still immediately appealed to me as soon as I heard it, and it's rare, and it's bloody good. You only have to see the demand for classics like Lou Pride, Tomangoes and George Blackwell etc. etc. the quality of these means they will always be wanted.
  4. Sorry about the title, it's a term used among some friends of mine for "The Top [make up your own number] Rare and Brilliant Records That Everyone Wants To Own" Is it a sign that the recession is over that these type of records seem to have disappeared from the sales section? Don't get me wrong, it depresses the hell out of me when I see a 45 that I have always wanted to own for sale and I can't afford to buy it. But the pickings seem to be very slim at the moment. OK, apart from the couple that Pete S has had up.
  5. Ah! I didn't know that Andy, that explains it.
  6. Yes but Andy, you've always had terrible taste mate.
  7. No, flowery ones are deffo styrene.
  8. This is just another oldies versus newies thread under a different guise. Trouble is there are no newies anymore. So there are golden oldies and post Wigan oldies. The so called underground scene are playing post Wigan oldies mixed with stuff that never made it and Funk. I love the golden oldies and the post Wigan oldies, but I want to hear something new. But not Funk.
  9. Why indeed Tony. It's like the youngsters now all want "to be famous" and deserted churches are suddenly standing room only when Songs of Praise turn up.
  10. Love the record, love the label. Got that undefinable NS factor. Just a pity that the association with a modern pop tune has ruined it's cult status.
  11. It's already a terrible show. I won't be able to watch it.
  12. The only thing in common is the title. One is a great soul record, the other isn't.
  13. It's always been a fantastic record, just goes to show the power of publicity.
  14. Post of the week Rod, made me physically laugh out loud and I scared some customers in the shop.
  15. Yes I should have said that Alan, that's why I had to get you to play it for me at Guy's do. Thanks for that mate. I also asked you to play it one night at Lifeline, and from a very quiet dance floor, it packed it.
  16. Some turned up in an old chest of drawers a few years ago now. There were three minty ones which Shifty got and sold, then the guy who found them put the others on ebay which were around VG I think, I definitely remember two going through because I bid on one but Kitch beat me to it. Before that it never used to get played. I even went to an event Guy H. was running in Huddersfield just so I could ask Kitch to play it for me, as I had never heard it on a big system. Of the three that Shifty had, I got one, Andy Killick and Fingers got the other two. Just superb on a big system.

  18. There you go again Mr Sycophant. And I'll say it again, I have no axe to grind I just have an opinion.
  19. I don't agree Richard. People stop coming on here when all they read is how wonderful people are, all the events are packed and all the endless YouTube posts are brilliant. A great number of the records on Mr Manship's auction are very poor indeed. A case of Emperors new cloths if you ask me. Nobody dare speak there mind on this scene for fear of upsetting someone. Too many sycophants, and too many who were once at the vanguard of the scene, but are now living on their past. As for the Jackie Beavers 45. Probably the greatest double sider of all time. And this is supposed to be a public forum, so I am entitled to my opinion.
  20. First of all I just thought when I read JM's description that it sounded like he was making a big deal out of the "love that never grows old" side. He doesn't have a clue what is popular on the rare nighter scene, except what he gets off Sam. I know that from speaking to him and by the stuff he puts up on the auction. I've rung him loads of times in the past to tell him that the flip side of one of his auction records is actually the side that people are chasing. knowing about the artist, writers, producers etc etc. isn't the same as knowing a great record when you hear one. The other thing is, I have nothing what so ever to do with Tim Browns auction except that he is a friend of mine and I post his list up for him as a personal favour. I have no financial arrangement or axes to grind, just my personal opinion.
  21. Hear, hear. Just been reading Mr Manships latest offerings. My God, he's so far out of what's been going on on the nighter scene since Cleethorpes pier it's laughable. Read his sales patter for the Jackie Beavers. He's just discovered the best side, after it's been a monster play for 30 years.
  22. Blimey, Gallahads poor record to my ears and didn't think it was that rare either.
  23. Don't believe everything you see grasshopper.
