Yeh i can hear them now. "bloody typical TV portrayal, they were all wearing the usual bells, tassels, ribbons and flowery hats, and they all had beards. It's always the ones stuck in the bloody Elizabethan age that prostitute themselves on TV. Where's the up front troupes? I won't be able to face my workmates tomorrow."
-
Don't think you'd get your money back though. Probably just a credit note.
-
Like I have said before on these threads, the Troy Dodds suffers from nobody knowing just how many copies were in the big find. Mr. Manship keeps slipping them out every now and then. They are all issues and all mint. Great record, but hardly a dancer. As for the Appointments. I'd rather have the De-lite copy with "I saw you there" on it. Now that's a bloody awesome and rare record.

I'd be happy if the Dj actually knew how to use a turntable and didn't keep turning the gains up because they think it's the volume control. I know a load of so called big name Dj's and so called promoters who don't understand the first thing about PA.

Don't they cheat anyway by pitching the next tune up or down to get the same BPM, then pitch it back after it's been faded in?

brilliant.
-
Once again Mik has hit the nail on the head. If a "messiah" figure suddenly turned up at nighters with a set of unknown but brilliant 60's northern dancers, then to quote the movie "people will come". I personally know many people who are desperate to go out to a nighter, but they will never experience the excitement of hearing new and exciting northern dancers like they used to, so they just don't go anymore.

I think you are all missing the point.............when we were young we loved the music and just wanted to dance to it. The Dj's were a special breed that somehow had these incredible records. If the young'uns are so into the music, why the fook do they want to be Dj's? If I was 20 I would be dancing all night. That's what the scene needs to have a future, loads of young dancers, not loads of young Dj's playing boots of oldies.

Quinvy replied to Pete S's topic in Record Sales
Another big lad, well done Pete there'll be people selling organs and the family jewels for this one. Just wish I had the money myself, never had one of these. -
He may have changed since I last won a record on Manship's auction, but he never used to give you the company sleeve. They were just window dressing.

Is this a five minute argument or the full half hour?
-
Why are you still arguing? This post says it all, well done Mik, nail on head, next topic please.

What a load of pretentious crap. The records are covered up to allow the Dj to build a following for the record and to create a buzz so that people will turn up to hear records that they can't hear anywhere else. The whole scene was built on rare records. It would have lasted about two years if all the records had been readily available. These records were made by people hoping to make it big, they failed and that is that. A few Dollars thirty or forty years later would hardly change the lives of the artists would it?

I have bought a couple over the years thinking I could record them for home listening, but the quality was so poor I binned them. -

You forgot about the most important thing, the sound quality. Every boot I've ever played has been terrible.
