"love On A Lease Plan" - Johnnie Burke Or Johnnie Taylor
Quinvy replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
Thought it were another acetate job? I would love a good quality sound file of it, the boot is terrible. -
They'e not northern though Len, I meant records for dancing to. There's plenty of mid tempo/slow stuff and stuff with an awkward beat, but they're not for me.
-
You make many valid points Paul, however, if an allnighter suddenly sprang up with Dj's playing all new quality 60's northern, I'd be there like a shot, and so would many more who have left the scene because they have heard it all before. It's never going to happen of course, but that's the only scenario that would ever make it happen again.
-
Er, what are LP's?
-
None of that is anything to do with it. There's only one reason why it's dead: There's no new 60's northern.
-
I will take offers on this until Sunday 6pm or until someone makes me an offer I can't refuse. Condition is VG++ 13. Sam Ward .mp3 NOW SOLD. THANKS FOR THE INTEREST.

Sorry mate was just ribbing ya, but I agree entirely about the copyists. It's all about taste at the end of the day, AND whether anyone will dance to it.
-
also Steve tastes have changed, and the flip side of a played out oldie can suddenly sound just right for today. The fact is we all want to own what moves us, that's how it works. If I hear a record and it moves me to dance and think "wow thats fantastic" I'm not going to think " oh but someone else has played it so I better not buy a copy" Come on, there wouldn't have been a scene after a couple of years.
-
Every time someone makes a claim about a record there will be vociferous counter claims from others. There can be very little that hasn't been tried or championed by someone after all these years. But the fact is, certain people and certain venues can propel a record to a must have. Yet that same record could have been hammered by another person for years and never been noticed. The main man of course is Butch. He can play almost anything and cause it's value to soar. But there are many other examples where people like Karl Heard have played records like Rudy Love and made them a must have for the Dj's. Everyone knows that John Anderson has discovered more northern than anyone. He is the man, end of.
-
Still no date for the film release though.
-
Welcome to the dark world of promoting. I would never do it again, the trouble I had to put up with all the politics was horrendous. Playing devils advocate here I have a little understanding of where the other guy is coming from [but I would never condone his actions] it has been known to happen that when a one off night is a roaring success the organisers think, "wow this is brilliant, lets run it every month" so that's probably his concern.
-
Why would you pay all that for a reissue, you can get the real thing for £20.
-
That's story that I heard. Well the first paragraph anyway.
-
Cheap people, classic Bob.

I thought we were talking about 2 belting northern tunes? A lot of these choices are chalk & cheese records. And please lets not descend into who can imbed the most youtube lips. We are all capable of finding stuff on youtube, thank you.

My God, lets wheel out the same old same old. Maybe get the wide trouser world champion to give us his insight.

Is it exactly the same Mark?

This is the old thread.

I wanted to buy it a few years ago and made inquiries on here. I can't remember the name of the guy who had it, but I couldn't get in touch with him so I gave up. I may be wrong but I have heard Carl Fortnum play the instrumental not the vocal. It seems to be a Marmite record you either love it or hate it. I fookin love it.

Never did anything for me other than it's a very nice record, but would never get me dancing. Nice to listen to though.

It all depends whether it's a soul night or an all nighter. When I first started promoting I did a soul night and I always did the last hour. It was brilliant, we didn't get many in, but everyone who was there was on the dance floor. Everyone had had a drink, were well up for it, and didn't want it to end. On the other hand once we changed to a nighter it was totally different. You will be very lucky if there are many people still there for the last hour, and most of the stuff you planned on playing will have been played earlier in the night.
