Have you been taking something Kev?
-
We can't even get support for a monthly event, never mind weekly. And even Ady couldn't supply enough new 60's to feed a weekly event.
-
Ady, the fact is that any Dj worth a dam would kill to have some one off quality 60's northern to play. I would have walked over hot coals to have some when I was promoting. The ones you sold to JT went down a storm when he played them at Burnley. The Cavaliers track was the b*llocks.
-
I had a similar email when I was selling up. When you are putting thousands of pounds through paypal they must get flagged up to warn them of possible money laundering or large businesses trying to avoid tax. Normal amounts of money don't flag up these warnings. They will probably ask you to register as a business next, they did with me. Try using direct bank transfers instead. Both parties need to have internet banking, but it's instant and free. BACS, it's the future.
-
To me, the best bit of the Sensations is the opening 30 seconds. The opening line and I'm gone.
-
First of all, if you were off your tits, how do you know what you were dancing to? Secondly, if people ram the floor to dance to tracks like Pervis Lee, then they aren't dancing to biggies or classics. And they will obviously dance to anything.
-
that's brilliant Pete. I would have said the total opposite myself. I have never been able to understand why that Freddie Butler was worth big money. The Sensations is a tough record especially in that condition. Oh and it's bloody magic too.

Fit young birds don't give a flying **** about rare soul music. You need to sell your records and start selling designer handbags if you want some attention from that demographic mate.
-
There weren't that many Dj's about then Len, and everyone knew who was a regular. People were still young enough to dance back then.
-
I used to travel all over just to listen to different Dj's who I could book for my nighter. If they got me up dancing, I booked them, if not I didn't. If only some other promoters had the balls to do that instead of letting anyone do a spot if they bring a few punters with them. Or to keep their mates happy.
-
I said one of, one of. Really? How come I used to ask Kitch to Dj for me at every opportunity? And Butch and Andy are the others I refer to, although I have been informed that Butch is playing more x-over and 70's stuff these days so not really my thing. Just because I made a comment about the sound system at Burnley [which was hastily removed from facebook] have I become the enemy all of a sudden?
-
It's like the stuff that gets radio play. People don't seek those records out, they just hear them in the background of their lives and before they know it they are hooked. Here's an interesting [i hope] anecdote. A few years ago James Trouble was a guest at Lifeline. This is advertised as the number one rare soul event in the country, with the countries finest Dj's. Their words not mine. So when James goes on he's got the countries rare soul connoisseurs to get on the dance floor. So he plays: Joe Hicks - Don't it Make You Feel Funky, Van Dykes - Save my Love For a Rainy Day and Tomangoes - I Really Love You. The floor was rammed. People who go out for a dance and have had a bit of something, aren't gonna argue the toss what's being played, so long as it's got a beat. As a promoter or Dj, you are deciding what people will dance to, not the other way round.
-
Do people actually ask for that, or are they just attending nights that have that music policy?
-
Kitch is one of the only Dj's on the scene that I would go out just to hear play. I didn't realise he had some new covers. Now I am very interested. Second only to Butch in my humble opinion, and some of the best nights I've ever experienced when he played at Burnley. Top man.

How anyone can be into northern and yet prefer Pervis Lee to Butch's Mighty Lovers is totally beyond my comprehension.

Please PM me to reserve. GLORIA TAYLOR - TOTAL DISASTER - MERCURY M- £50 Apparently it was too expensive when I first listed it. Bloody cheap now. Gloria Taylor 1.mp3 ELLIOT SMALL - STILL IN MY HEART - NEW SOUND EX £75 One of the best tunes around at the moment on the original local release, with the name misspelt as "Elloit" Elliot Small.mp3 JIMMY HUGHES - WHY NOT TONIGHT - ATCO M- £80 This is the album with the incredible "slippin' around" track on it. This album is mint and is "mono" so ideal for blasting out on a big system. Proper Northern Soul!!!!! Jimmy Hughes.mp3

It's out and out R&B and very monotonous.

Bloody hell I would be.

Variations " I Wanna Take You Uptown" Right On
Quinvy replied to Stockholmsoulfox's topic in Record Wants
It's bloody ordinary, end of. -
I apologise to Mik, I thought you were part of the Pow Wow promotion. I wasn't denigrating the lack of mic use, I was merely asking if there was a swing towards that these days, as I don't go out regularly now. Like I said many times before, stop taking everything as a personal attack Chalky. I was merely asking a question.

I normally agree with everything you write Mik, but aren't you a bit too involved with this promotion to make an unbiased assessment? He seems a very likeable young chap, I met him briefly at Burnley the other week. He played some decent selections when I was there but didn't use the mic, is this the fashion these days?

Ending very soon.
