  1. Here we go again.
  2. Sorry but I can't agree.
  3. I can't understand all the negative comments regarding this recording. I always thought it was a black female artist and where the **** you get the drunk and off her tits from I'll never know. Awesome dance record as far as I'm concerned. Just the soul snobs trying to knock the record for it's lack of depth. Get over it.
  4. Irene & the Scotts is a very common record that I have never liked personally. The facts are there for all to see. The problem is that the people who are "on the scene" are so desperate to hear something different, they have lowered their standards and changed the musical boundaries in order to perpetuate a music scene for their own ends. I know so many people who are desperate to go out somewhere and hear something new to their ears, but have given up the ghost. The quality just isn't there anymore. I am just giving my personal opinion, if you are happy with the events and "music" that you are hearing, then I am very happy for you.
  5. I just don't think you can entertain a crowd and keep a jumping dance floor if you limit yourself to cheap records. I wouldn't pay money to hear those records played one after the other. Mix it up.
  6. Yes I am Martyn. I have heard some of these sets and even though some of the tunes are brilliant, a full hour of them is frankly terrible. If you lose the floor, you need to get them back, and you can't do that without some big hitters. People might come up to you after your set and tell you how much they enjoyed what you played, but if I'm Dj'ing, I want people dancing. Not sat there looking bored and scratching their chins.
  7. As long as I don't have to listen to these spots you can all fill your boots. Just mix it up that's all. It's just common sense.
  8. It pisses me off, I haven't got any room for full size separates.
  9. If space isn't an issue, there are some incredible bargains to be had in second hand hi-fi. A shop near where I live has literally tons of high end stuff that people had traded in for the latest trend. In fact he has had to stop taking trade ins because we all want the latest high tech gear, and nobody wants the old full size stuff.
  10. Blimey! Be careful Tony. Last time we had this debate and I eluded to that fact I received PM's threatening me with legal action.
  11. The person who's forum name is Brownie, isn't in fact Tim Brown.
  12. My post was made in 2006 though mate.
  13. You're dead right Dave. Same thing happened when all those Al Williams mint Palmer Demo's started to appear on ebay. Love the Palmer demo as the recording is far superior to the one on La Beat.
  14. I didn't, but I heard what was being played when my mates came round my house with records, EMI's and live tapes. And the Mecca was playing New York Disco by then.
  15. Now I remember why I jacked it all in around 1976. Some truly dreadful records played back then. I guess you had to be there. Only a mother could love some of these tunes.
  16. It was big after I sold up, so the first time I heard it was on a CD compilation. I didn't like it and couldn't understand what the fuss was all about. The same goes for Damon Fox, De-lites, Executive Four and other biggies. However, once I had heard them played out and danced to them, I knew exactly what the fuss was about. Awesome! This only goes to prove the point that this is dance music, not for listening to at home.
  17. That copy came from Stuart Bennett who had to sell it to get out of some financial problems he was having at the time. He's never got over it, even to this day.
  18. I'll ask around for you George, I know you like them minty.
  19. I didn't realise that Blakka had changed the handles on their boxes. I used to like the old ones which were like a spring encased in plastic.
  20. I agree, the handles on the Blakka boxes are more comfortable than the Swan.
  21. It doesn't fill a dance floor and that reflects in the price I think. Great record but very messy.
  22. Be very cheap at £500 Carl. I got £600 for mine quite a few years ago.
  23. Yeh, "what's this crap he's playing? I could do much better. Giz a spot."
