  1. Hang the Dj's
  2. Trouble is Matt, that short list of records aren't worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as the Tomangoes. And in my humble opinion aren't even good enough to play out. Wouldn't give you twopence for 'em. And therein lies the the reason that the nostalgia scene goes on and on. And the up front scene has had it. Just my opinion of course.
  3. You're obviously not trying hard enough. I expect to be selected in the next England [moaning] squad.
  4. Maybe mate. But nobody took any notice until Fred played it. The price went mental overnight. Same thing with Rudy Love on Canyon. Everyone said "oh, Cliff Steel has been playing it for years" and I don't doubt it. But as soon as Karl H got behind it, everybody had to have it. I could write a list a mile long of records that "have been known about" for donkeys years. But not everyone on the scene knows them. You need a venue that is on every month to get records popular. Four times a year? Give me a break, who's going to remember what was played at the last one.
  5. The Stanky 45 was a £10 record until one night at one of my Burnley Allnighters a few years ago. Fred Krol dug it out and played it. You wouldn't believe how many people ran up to the decks to see what it was. Next day you couldn't find a copy on any of the dealers sites. The price shot up over night. Fred is very embarrassed to be the man responsible for it's rise to stardom. However, I find it very poor form that the soul snobs on here are slamming it as such a bad record. At least it's a dance record, and I would far rather hear Stanky than most of the dirge that gets the plaudits from folk on this forum.
  6. No Ivor, but most audiophiles are trying to achieve perfection in stereo. The White Label is a meant for a club environment so tracks really well and doesn't jump out of the groove easily. I don't have any stereo records, so I don't need an audiophile cart. I bought a Project turntable with an elliptical stylus a couple of years ago. It was very quiet. I had to turn the volume up very high. I wasn't happy so I took it back to the shop and exchanged it for a send hand Technics 1200 with just a Stanton 500 cart fitted. It nearly blew the bloody windows out compared to the other one. After fitting the White Label it was amazing.
  7. Yes but we aren't playing mint albums, we are playing used 60's 45's.
  8. You haven't compared them to anything else though. The difference was huge.
  9. Once tried an elliptical stylus which I found bloody awful. Just saying like.
  10. The best I've ever used is the Shure White Label cart. They track with very little weight, sound really clear, and the replacement stylus is very reasonable. I wouldn't use anything else. Stanton 500 are very old technology, and not very good by todays standard. The needle sits very high in the groove and needs a lot of weight to track and sound right. That = heavy wear of your precious vinyl. I wouldn't use them personally.
  11. Probably a lot to do with the recent TV program and Film. I remember when "The Commitments" first came out. I was always being asked to get people "Otis Reading - Try A Little Tenderness" It just puts the music into the limelight for a short while. Which is a good thing I think.
  12. One in sales now if you still need a copy.
  13. Will you be selling the items separately Ian? I would love the DVDS but I have all the tunes and Mikes book already.
  14. I didn't know that Steve.
  15. I went to one a few months ago Neil. I didn't see you there. It was terrible. No wonder you like the music there, you can't actually hear it. Bang bang bang. I couldn't believe it. Why should I be bitter? I couldn't give a monkeys. I just couldn't believe how you lot were biggin' it up, when the sound system is so badly set up. I only went to listen to Cliff's new plays. Waste of time, couldn't hear a thing.
  16. I was talking about the fact that I used to provide an area especially for sales with tables/chairs/lighting and power supplies for the sellers. If you don't provide this they won't come. There was never a shortage of vinyl for sale in my day. I was also saying that there is hardly any seating available now. We struggled to find a seat when I went. My point being that I put a massive amount of effort into my nighters. And you could hear every word and note of the records being played. I couldn't tell what the **** was being played the other month. The fact that you and the other patrons of Sean's events think they are fantastic just goes to show how I wasted many hours of time and effort. What a **** I am.
  17. It's got nothing to do with stress levels Neil. I wouldn't let the wannabe Dj's on at Burnley. And there was non of this you Dj at mine, and I'll Dj at yours b*llocks. That's why a lot of people wouldn't come to my nighters. They knew they wouldn't get a spot, simple as that. Sean has joined the DJ circus, good luck to him. No disrespect to Sean, but he isn't running it every month like I was. And when I went the other month it was nothing like when I ran it. ie. no record sales area set out with lighting and power supplies, very few tables and chairs, and the sound system was terrible. He is also in a much better financial position than I will ever be. If Chris Burton is The Torch, then I am Burnley. What's there now is a pale imitation of what it was.
  18. Well said Paul. This stuff is going on all the time believe me. At one time I was more or less told to change my dates because my nighter was on the same weekend as another that was 120 miles away. Mine was on a Friday night theirs was on the Saturday. I kid you not. And I bloody did it, because if you offend some of these people, they will set everyone against you. I would never promote anything on this scene again. The bitterness and hatred that exists is beyond belief.
  19. Sorry I meant never seen one for sale.
  20. Any update on this Ian?
  21. Wow! I've never even seen a demo.
  22. To be honest, I would be having words with the venue owner. To me it's his fault that this is happening, not another promoter. If the venue owner was happy with his lot, then he wouldn't be accepting bookings from another promoter. When I was running Burnley, I know for a fact that other so called "mates" tried to book the venue without approaching me. But because the venue owner was a decent bloke he wouldn't entertain them. If he had I would have walked away, simple as that.
