  1. In my experience they mainly fiddle with the gains, because they think they are volume controls. The mixers have green and red lights. If it's in the green it's safe, if it's in the red it f*****g isn't. Turning the gain control up is like driving a car at 70mph and slamming it into second gear.
  2. Exactly. But what about if you had paid thousands of pounds for them. Would you still play them?
  3. I'm not naming names on a public forum, but you must be aware it goes on. I'm talking about the ones that are out Dj'ing every week all over the country. As for the decks, you tell them to leave them alone, then you constantly check them throughout the night. That's what I did. Same with the mixer. Oi Dj........NO! It's called being a promoter and acting professionally.
  4. Yes but the ones who do have them are playing lookalike carvers because they don't want to damage their real copy on some badly set up deck with a knackered stylus. Or they have sold their original copy but can get away with it because they are "A BIG NAME", or they've just paid £12k on Eddie Parker and they don't want to risk it. If the promoters actually ran their events professionally, and actually knew how to set up their equipment. Then made it clear to the Dj's that they play o.v.o. or not at all, these records wouldn't have a market. And we would get rid of 80% of the Dj's overnight. Talk about double standards, and lack of ethics.
  5. I haven't seen anything nasty posted on here, and I wouldn't have anything to do with the mindless trolls who go way over the top and get nasty. There's debate and opinion which is a good thing. Anything personal and vindictive isn't.
  6. What's a gloomy label Bearsy?
  7. Everyone said it had been booted when I bought mine. Nearly came to blows with a guy at a nighter that said my copy wasn't original. It was though.
  8. Mmmmmmm, not sure about that Billy. Unless you had the record in your hand, how would you know? It's like I said in my post, once you atcheive national acclaim, nobody will question your ethics. I can give you an example. I was very good mates with Guy Hennigan in the seventies, but lost touch with him when I left the scene around 76. I think Guy moved to Derby? Anyway twenty odd years later, I met someone that knew Guy and put me back in touch with him. We met up a few times as he was running various events and doing some Dj spots at that time. Long story short, a few years down the line and I started running my own Allnighters at Burnley. Word got out about what I was trying to acheive and the first couple of nighters were like a who's who the rare soul scene. Guy turned up along with many other luminaries of the scene. Guy said he would help me out by Dj'ing for me. Now at the time he was playing some very rare stuff in his sets, but I knew he didn't actually own them. So as diplomatically as I could I explained that he couldn't play any carvers at my event. He went ballistic." I discovered all these records" "who the f**k do you think You are" blah, blah, blah. He has never spoken to me since. But nobody else dared to question what he was playing. Nobody else could care less. The promoters are to blame.
  9. The only trouble with threads like this is that the majority couldn't give a ****. I despise boots and re-issues personally, but it's gone too far now. It's one thing to have 45's that don't look anything like the original, but once you start scanning labels it becomes very dodgy indeed. It then becomes a counterfeit as it is trying to deceive. As far as the scene goes, I hate to be the one to burst some bubbles but......many of the so called big name Dj's are playing these fakes week in, week out at events all over the country, to protect their original copy. So what's the difference between your hero big name Dj, and the wannabe's? Especially when the same big name Dj sells his original copy yet continues to play the carver. After all, who would dream of questioning our hero's? The hypocrisy on the scene has killed it for me. I've even been threatened for daring to go up to the decks to check the authenticity of records being played by big names. Would you Dj with the Eddie Parker you had just paid £12k for?
  10. Not sure what you mean old bean. Do you mean the turntable?
  11. You can see the label is stuck on. These are carvers definitely. No wonder the originals are going for silly money. You buy the original, record the audio, copy the labels. Get a few carvers done, stick the labels on, flog the original, flog the carvers. Get more carvers done......
  12. I wouldn't have thought that Jimmy Burns was that rare. I have had quite a few opportunities to buy it over the years, but never seen a New Wanderers.
  13. It's never worried any of the big Dj's before George. Kenny Burrell with Frank Wilson for example.
  14. We've been saying this for many years though Chris, yet there it is. Double what I thought it would go for. Anyone who can afford to pay these prices has to be seriously wealthy, or they are Dj'ing and must have the big hitters to the extent that they will do anything to have them. We call it "The Fever" I've had it myself and was buying records I couldn't really afford on credit cards and over draughts. I am a vinyl-holic.
  15. We say it every week. The worlds gone mad.
  16. Nobody said anything derogatory about the gentleman in the ad. I'm quite sure he and his family are lovely people. It's the fact that they feel the need to wear a uniform that says "look at us, we are into northern soul" you can still love the music without the need to wear badges and t shirts with black fists and other such motifs. You can't expect to appear on national television making a statement about a scene that is as emotive as this is, without getting some criticism. That's life I'm afraid.
  17. That's double what the last one went for. Incredible.

  19. Like I said earlier, the trousers aren't as bad as the flared skirts, ankle socks, ribbons and tattoos that the women wear. Where the hell did that look come from? And where do the flat caps come from? The only people who wore them in the seventies were our dads.
  20. That'll be "Snake and Vac" surely?
  21. On the clothes thing. The guys are bad enough, but to see fifty year old woman in flared skirts with ankle socks and covered in tattoos I find repulsive. I never went to Wigan, but I don't ever remember seeing lasses dressed like that in the seventies.
  22. Bobby Angelle, I can see everyone looking for copies as we speak. They'll be one on Manship's auction before long, and it'll be a grand. Why oh why the fancy dress?
  23. It's taken you a long time to get that off your chest mate. Back in 1977 you had to have the big tunes of the day to get people to dance.
  24. Backing track is superb, but I could write a better song over it than that. Sounds like she is just making it up as she goes along.
