  1. I've got to let some things go, so send me an email and I'll send you the list in an attachment. [microsoft word] Please download and print off. Philsoul45@aol.com Thanks for your intrest. Phil.
  2. No problem Brian, I love to see young people embracing the scene. You will be welcome anytime mate.
  3. Hi Chalky, Heard a story at Middleton on Satuurday night. Didn't get there till late myself, but had it from a very reliable source. During Paul Sadot's spot, he had someone waving a piece of A4 paper at him, with the words "PLAY SOMETHING WE KNOW" written on it. We all know that Paul tries his utmost to find fresh tunes to play. And I for one know how much it costs in time, effort and money, to put a good spot together, and keep it fresh. No wonder so many get disalusioned and pack it in. This is the reason that I started my own night. I'm not a promoter, and I couldn't give a stuff about making money. But I love this music, and I am providing a haven for like minded soulies. Some people on here have taken offence at my discription of the music we play. But if they haven't been and experianced it, how can they make a judgement. And the most disheartening thing has been lack of support from people who say they want upfront and rare venues. At least if my efforts fail, I will have tried. Phil.
  4. Hi Brian, I run Soul Salvation @ Burnley Cricket Club, and Paul and his friends came down very late one night, and got in with no bother. Very few locals have been down, all are welcome. Most of my regulars travel in order to hear the rare and quality music on offer. I'd love to see more locals, especially young un's. Paul's a very nice lad, we have spoken on this forum. What a shame there aren't more like him. Come down Brian, and introduce yourself, I'll be on the door. Best, Phil.
  5. Nice one Billy, pity about the intro though, would love to hear the full recording. It does sound excellent, I'm sure he must play it out, too good not to. 100 club maybe? ashamed to say I've not made it down there as yet. Phil.
  6. Hi Karen, Enjoyed talking to you at Lifeline, hope you are well. Are you going to Middleton on sat. night? Anyway, if you are will see you there. Now then this record, quite a hard one me thinks. Don't know if this will help, but Ian Cunliffe had a copy for sale, but it was a while back now, so may well have gone. Anyhow he posts on here as iancsloft, so p.m. him, you never know. Hope to see you soon. best regards, Phil.
  7. Dave, I've had so much stick about my signature that I've reduced it. By unpopular demand.
  8. Thanks Dave, that's a nice answer. You know what they say, big signature[like big car] Phil.
  9. Hiya chuck are you still up, hope you had a good un last night. Missed you at mine. Thanks for the answer to my post. Concise and to the point. Phil xx
  10. Yep, I'd say you missed the point by a mile. Just using the Butch analogy as an example. Not to be taken literally. Quite a lot of c/up's played at my do that's all. Would you travel to a venue on the strength of a playlist? Or, on the other hand, would a playlist put you off attending a do? I have been put off by playlists myself. Better to just go and make your own mind up. I sometimes think that people are saying, oo look what I've got in my play box. Ego trip maybe? That's why I was asking for reasoned opinions. Phil.
  11. --> QUOTE(Mike B @ Mar 6 2006, 01:04 AM) link We always put them up on our website after an event www.eastangliasoul.co.uk and often give an idea of the sort of stuff future guests will play - the reason being that the area where we run our nights is a bastion of the oldies brigade, and our aim is to try to play something different from the same old same old - in theory it works two ways - lovers of the sounds they heard at the youth club are forewarned and people who want something different know they can get it with us.... But do agree that with the likes of Butch c/u c/u c/u doesn't really take you anywhere.... I like playlists in the sense that it gives me a clue as to what I could expect at a club I didn't know that well.....also as a DJ I find it interesting to see what other people are spinning and the type of sets they are putting together (when they are sober enough to remember of course ) So for me playlists get the Cheers Mike Bolderson Some good points well put there Mike. But do you think that the oldies brigade would check out your playlist before attending, or not, I mean on a website? Have you ever had anyone attend your night, that said they had come, because they read your playlists? Phil.
  12. I have been asked by a member of this fine forum [baz] and others in the past, if I would publish playlists from my Soul Salvation night. In my own humble opinion I think they are a bad thing. As I've never read one and thought, wow, I must go there. And at an upfront venue like mine, where there are so many little known tunes, and, wether you like em or not, cover up's played, I can't really see the point. Just imagine Butch's play list at Lifeline, c/up c/up c/up etc. And I've also found that most dj's can't be bothered to let you have a playlist after the event. For what ever reason, too drunk, high, can't remember. That's just my humble opinion, but I'd love to hear your views. Maybe you can change my mind. So good thing or not?
  13. I quite like it but it's nearly imposible to dance to.
  14. Mmmm, not a patch on this i.m.h.o. www.freewebs.com/soul45s/
  15. HA HA HA ! Fantastic post, cheered me up no end.
  16. Thanks Mike, you're a gent, I'll inform Paul. Phil.
  17. No mate, not on commission, but he has put some of my 45s on there for me. And I couldn't find my original post to reactivate it.
  18. I maintain a box soley for dj'ing, but it's quallity over quantity for me now. And the box just get's smaller, as everything that I hear and must have, seems to be £1000 + I always did have expensive taste, so I have to sell, in order to buy. You can only play about 24 records in a spot. So I can't see the point of dragging 500 around with you. Besides, I like to keep changing em, keeps the spot fresh. Just bought an 80 box, but it only holds around 60. There was so much packing in the old box it looked silly when open. This will probably do me for my entire collection, unless I win the lottery, and can afford to actually keep some. I am going to be stuffed if there is a big drop in prices though.
  19. Just had a look at Paul Harris's new web site. For all things rare soul vinyl, sales, news etc. Have a look at www.freewebs.com/soul45s/ and stick it in your fav's. I can't wait for the venue reviews. Phil.
  20. Think you've misunderstood my point mate. I love the record, but don't want to pay over a grand for one, only to find that it's turned up in quantity. I'd rather wait in that case for the price to drop. And, there are also many rare items that I don't like, so, no need to take offence at a perfectly reasonable question. I just don't want to get burned, "again" that's all. Phil.
  21. Had a copy in my sales box for eons, just could not sell it. Swaped it to my mate last week, he swaped it to Pat Brady. It's on his auction now. There has been 2 copies on ebay not long ago, both went VERY cheap, not much interest. Heard it played out recently, may have been James Trouble. Suddenly everyone sems to want it. Have a look on Pat's site, can't see it making a big price on the auction, but you never know. Good look anyway. Phil.
  22. Just thought I'd let all you vinyl junkies know, that my good friend Mr. Paul Harris, has got his new web site up and running. I'm sure you will find it interesting, informative, and maybe find that elusive want that you've been searching years for. www.freewebs.com/soul45s/ Phil.
  23. Just wondered. Saw that Pete Smith was offering a copy on here, then I got a list off Ian Clarke, he's got one, and now there's one on ebay. Just a coincedence ? I thought that it was dog rare. I was thinking of buying one, but not so sure now. Anyone know anything ? Phil.
  24. There's a guy in the states selling them on ebay. Can't remember who now, but I bought some copies off him a couple of years ago. He recond they were a limited press and he even had some on red vinyl. The sound quality was very poor I thought, but the flip is really nice. I sold them on as they seemed to be everywhere, and as I said before the sound quality was poor. I think it was released on an aniversary 45 also can't remember the venue.
  25. Hi Dave, I think Kev Murphy has an issue. Phil.
