  1. Many thanks to all for the info...Sean, I bow my head in awe of your knowledge mate.... Phil.
  2. I'm looking to get a copy of Sam & Dave - Sooth me, and Prince Buster - Al Capone. Were these two UK only releases? and how do I tell the original release? I seem to remember being told that the U.S. release of Sooth Me was live? Any help appreciated, and anyone want to sell me either or both, would be fantastic... Phil.
  3. Sorry Joan, that's just me showing my ignorance....when I enquired about Sandy Golden a while ago, I was told by someone that it was a Butch spin, and I took his word as gospel.. ..but when you have had twenty years away from the scene as I have.....their are large holes in your knowlage......after hearing tapes at Cliff's house, and hearing about Mr. Marriot I would have loved to hear him DJ...sadly that will never happen...think I missed a golden era.
  4. If someone asked me to name a 'Butch' spin, I dont think I could Jayne, your last played tune [sandy Golden] is a Butch spin....and many of the favourites that are played at the "oldies" venues, were originally spun by him, years ago..... Phil.
  5. Sorry Pete, I missed this post.....and no, not really just replying to you. Quite a few others defending the play owt DJ's....I know I'll never change the way it is...but this is a forum, and I'm a grumpy old man... ...what can you do.... Phil.
  6. Just thinking about this whole debate, I suddenly realised....don't hang the DJ, hang the bloody bootleggers... ....there wouldn't be a debate if it weren't for them..... Another point that has been raised before on the re-issue subject is, how many so called legit re-issues, aren't? How the hell would anyone know? It's a minefield.....and this topic will never be resolved....I can understand your concerns Sean. Once you get into playing new releases, it's a whole different ballgame, but as my taste doesn't really [appart from the odd track] appreciate "modern soul" I haven't come accross the need to play off the dreaded shiny disc.. Phil.
  7. Jayne, it's not promoters, it's just me trying not to clash with other promotions, impossible task I'm afraid though. Just noticed your last played tune was Sandy Golden.....what do you think of it? Phil.
  8. mmmmmm, with respect Pete. I didn't quote any of your posts, so I can assure you that I wasn't addressing myself to you in particular....but if you don't care a jot about weather people play ovo or not....and you have such an interesting life.....why are you on here at all hours of the day just like us sad beggers that DO CARE....? How can you have an opinion on something when you haven't tried it? Jayne said that she hadn't heard Butch DJ....and I was making a personal recomendation that she [and anyone else for that matter] should....if you don't like him, then that's fine.....like you said, opinions are like a**e holes, we've all got one......and as for my avitar, that's what it is, mine. I change it, and use it for promotion purposes....and also try to inject a little humour.....sad aren't I. Phil.
  9. Think Butch could wow any crowd...he's got all the big oldies as well as the new things.....how you can be into soul music, and not go out of your way to hear the number one DJ, I just don't know? I would recomend anyone to get out and hear Butch, Andy Dyson, Kitch and Mick H...you owe it to your soul......
  10. John Manship has the only one worth having....SOUL.....pure and simple, and unlike most of them, you can actually tell what it says.... .....having said that. If I owned it, I'd sell it to some sad git and buy some tunes....
  11. Roddy, this situation has come about because Chris Waterman's Wolverhampton nighter was scheduled to be on this Saturday. Unfortunalely I moved my date so as not to clash, but things have changed, and Chris has given up promoting. These things have to be sorted a long time in advance, you can't change dates just like that..... .....quite a few of the Burnley crowd will be at the weekender anyway. So hopefully Dave will have a big success. Phil.
  12. Can I have one please....
  13. I find myself asking the question, if you think it's fine and dandy for people to DJ using boots, reissues etc. "It's not important, lifes too short etc." Why do you all feel the need to add. "But I always play ovo myself of course."? Hidden agenda's? Lot's of things aren't that important, or don't really matter, when you look at them against the terrible things that happen on a world wide scale. You can make anything seem stupid and trivial. If you suddenly become ill, then suddenly everything else in your life becomes secondry. BUT, there is a thing called quality of life. We used to have standards, and respect for those standards. This used to be Great Britain, because we used to do things properly.....my God, we are a laughing stock now.....do gooders, PC, and the don't give a damn society, big f***ing brother for goodness sake...... Well, I'm a grumpy old man, and I have my standards and principals....and luckily there are many more that feel the same way..... Dumb down if you want to, but leave me out of it... Phil.
  14. That's just bollocks!!!! If DJ Warwick Hunt had any principals, he wouldn't have a boot in his box. So the above scenario would never happen.....also, surely one of the other DJ's would have a copy of the requested record? Too much dumbing down going on...cheapening something magical......I.M.H.O. of course.... Phil.
  15. Blimey! thought this would have flown out....I'll take it to Burnley tonight if nobody on here wants it....
  16. First come first served.....paypal add 4%.....post free.... Big allnighter play of the moment. M- condition. £200
  17. Good to see you back on here....sent you a PM. Phil.
  18. Why is it that a vinyl record can hold so much beauty and mystique as opposed to the foul and ugly CD, I've just had an hour playing and handling vinyl LP's, the aesthetic is absolute, the sheer thrill of holding and placing this piece of history on the turntable and gently lifting the tone arm across, then gently letting it fall in the dead wax.......then the anticipation, it holds your attention that Shhhh noise .....THEN THE SOUND BREAKS THROUGH...the emotion overflows, besides the wonderful musical resonance, there is the chance to watch this superlative Black object move almost to the rhythm and tempo of the song. Yet the CD in comparison is a heinous and filthy little creature, devoid of any charisma, even when I place the hound in the tray it disappears into the dark grey abyss of the machine...almost hiding itself in shame, as if it realizes that in my household he/she is surrounded by illustrious vinyl relations whom look down in disdain at this urchin in it's god damn awful jewel case............ Wonderful words Brett.....you have captured many other peoples feelings there sir....brilliant stuff....long time no see by the way, hope you are well... RESPECT.
  19. You got an Eddie Daye & the four bars..... ..... .....I need a copy too. Phil.
  20. There used to be a camera above the decks at the CIS nighters in Manchester. You could see the record spinning round on a huge projecter screen....made for some very interesting viewing I can tell you..... And as a promoter, all you need to do is say to anyone asking for a spot. Yes, but original vinyl only....otherwise , NO! Phil.
  21. Adam, did you sell your Richard Caiton???? Just looked in Browny's new guide...£350.. so I'll give you double that if you still have it....I am the kind man of soul... Phil.
  22. Yes many thanks Chalky, I just wanted to make sure it was the right tune.....all for nowt I'm afraid...DJ honky beat me again. ....he must have a fantastic collection by now... ...wish he'd go back to buying funk records.... Phil.
  23. Thank you kindly Reg.... Phil.
  24. Trying to plan my dates for next year and need to avoid the Prestatyn weekender. Can some kind soul let me know the dates please? Many thanks, Phil.
  25. I've heard so many stories of collectors / DJ's selling up and putting their money into something else....then low and behold, within a short while they are back at it again. Buying back their collection, and more....if it's in the blood, you can't just give it up.....you have to have something to aim for in life.....and chasing rare records keeps you going... Phil.
