  1. Why indeed, and strange that these other records appear to have been done at the same plant.
  2. I don't know Brian Rae, but he appears to be well respected by a lot of people, and I wouldn't want to cause any offence but! Most DJ spots are an hour duration. You can only play [roughly] 26 tunes in that time. I used to own approx.120 records, period. Not that heavy to carry and enough for 5 hours.
  3. I think that would be very wise Dave.
  4. The goat would have had more sense.
  5. Good post, points well made.
  6. At last a kindred spirit, and best post I've read on here. Amen!
  7. I have no idea what that is thank goodness.
  8. Indeed the Don Gardner single looks and sounds really good. I bought one myself just to record for personal use, then sold it on.
  9. I didn't know that Dave, that does make sense.
  10. Yours is an original. The second one (blue) on discogs is a boot. Great record and rare on the demo.
  11. I agree that is a strange name for a group that is singing what is more or less a sweet soul track.
  12. Oh that would be so good, please let it be so.
  13. Got it now mate, sorry.
  14. Sorry for being a bit thick Simon, but I don't understand your point?
  15. And that's the real crux of the matter Russ. No bugger dares to complain about anything on this scene. If you do you are vilified as some sperm of the devil who should be killed for criticising the promoter/DJ who is a wonderful person, and has been on the scene longer than anyone. That's the reason that so many terrible events get away with badly set up sound systems, playing boots, and employing DJ's with no records and no taste in music. If you are one of the social club, then people will turn up and tell you that everything was fabulous. Resulting in promoters who think they are providing a perfect experience for their guests. So nothing ever improves. Grow some bollocks people and let promoters know if you aren't happy. It's not personal. If you are expecting people to travel to your event, and you are charging them to get in. You need to make an effort to entertain them.
  16. Trouble is, instead of being lauded as heroes, they end up being vilified.
  17. I didn't mean monetary value, I meant emotionally.
  18. There are thousands of records, but there aren't thousands of top quality records that are what we would call "northern" I don't think it would take long for a young person who really devoured the music to get to a point where he/she was struggling to find something new. After all you can just plug in your earpiece and get an endless supply of "classics" that it took us many years to find and play. Just imagine hearing our music for the first time today. Bang! you have access to 40 years of an underground scene instantly at your finger tips. Too easy? Just not the same is it? How are you going to value something that can be accessed at any time?
  19. Wasn't Jesus born in one? Many a true word......
  20. I have only experienced a couple of these play off a laptop do's, and that was a few years ago. But the sound quality of both was excruciatingly bad. MP3 downloads might be OK to play at home or in the car, but put them through a big system and you soon discover their limitations. The other thing that I can't "get" about the young people coming into "the music" is why they feel the need to wear the uniform of baggy trousers and flared skirts?
  21. Should be strung up by the gonads, just shows how desperate people are to Dj.
  22. Just the one for today: This was on John Manships auction the other week. Think it went for £100.00. Unfortunately this copy is only VG condition, so £30 anyone? Little Beaver - I Feel My Love - Octavia VG Postage is £2.50p 1st class recorded in the UK. Payment by cheque, paypal gift or bank transfer. Little Beaver .mp3
  23. Trouble is Ian people change and some don't want to be "found" as I have discovered. I was interested in contacting John Bolland who was a friend of Franny's back in the day. He wasn't interested, but I bumped into him in Skipton with his wife and he was polite and friendly and we spoke of the old days for a few minutes. I invited him to call into my shop anytime for a brew and a chat, but he has never taken me up on the offer. Another lad that I was best friends with when we were kids also refused to get in touch when I discovered that I was working with his cousin many years later. Maybe it's just that nobody can stand me.
  24. Hello Ian, I have asked loads of people from the past if they knew his whereabouts, but he seems to have disappeared. I knew him from the time when he did the soul nights at Thornton Manor in the early seventies. I remember he drove a Morgan and had a trailer with the PA in. Great lad, both John Bolland and him were a bit older than me and my mates, so were our heroes and mentors. I will ask some of the people on Facebook from back in the day and let you know if I get any leads. Best regards, Phil.
  25. Who the **** are you to tell people how I feel. The nighters didn't fold. I ended them because two of the resident Dj's were no longer available. The reason that they are still going is testament to how desperate people were to keep it going, because it broke the mould. Like you rightly say everything has a shelf life, and Burnley had run it's course. I think it's a shame that it wasn't allowed to R.I.P. but thats all. I only come on here to add a bit of balance to all the back slapping that goes on.
