  1. hink the files been disabled Paul Strange cos others on the site work fine Working fine for me Nev.
  2. New to the site and building a collection and trying to broaden my horizons... i'm 31 so exposure to actual events has been limited... but I try. So whatever feed back I get I will build a playlist and live with it for a few days, see what sticks. Been doing the same for a while with DJ's top 5's and found some great stuff. My current fav's are in no order: Can't Satisfy - Impressions I got the fever - Creation My Man, A sweet Man - Millie Jackson Lonely for you Baby - Sam Dees Baby Hit and Run - Contours Here I go again - Archie Bell Sorry to be negative to someone asking for help, but you can't get the true feeling of this music from playing them on an MP3 player. You have to be in a dark seedy club, with a good sound system, with other like minded souls. Records from my past that provided seminal moments the first time I heard them are - JOHNNY SAYLES - I CAN'T GET ENOUGH - ST LAWRENCE LINDA JONES - I JUST CAN'T LIVE MY LIFE - W.BROS YOUNGHEARTS - A LITTLE TOGETHERNESS - SOULTOWN There are many more, but these three are cornerstones of perfection of each genre, male vocal, female vocal and group soul. If you haven't heard these before, well, I would love to be in your shoes and hearing them again for the first time. Phil.
  3. someone give this man some free records for making my night Think it might be a Laydee.....the clues are there 7,8 & 9....
  4. ebay is your friend. i just had a browse , there are 100's of complete set ups for sale. if its a small to medium place i would go for 300w 12 or 15" full range speakers with a 1000w amp. ( lots of tech issues regarding output/ohms etc ). the amp needs to deliver a lot more output than the rated wattage of the speakers, not the other way around as people think! the 15" drivers will give you the bass response. a good pair of 12's will suffice in a very small place.... (the Robin Hood , Edwinstowe copes very well with 12" drivers). please bear in mind if you require a huge amount bass response, the amp/speakers need to move a lot of air, therefore, large set up is favourite. my old band used 15" spkrs with a 1000w power amp and never suffered with volume issues at any gig we ever did. hope this helps, remember, its better to have plenty in reserve rather than pushing a system to its limit. p.s. www.class-d.com are based in mansfield woodhouse, very knowledgable guys and ultra cheap reliable stuff. i would recommend , bought lots of gear off them in the past. the amp needs to deliver a lot more output than the rated wattage of the speakers, not the other way around as people think! Is this true? I've got 2 whopping amps, but never dared to use them as they are much bigger output than my speakers.
  5. f***, and there me with empty pockets...in case your deal falls thru and you still have it for sale in three weeks let me know please...
  6. At least two different cuts I recall. The acetate that Andy Rix turned up had a nice flip too, "in one ear and out the other". I've heard 3 now Benji
  7. Yeah it's called 'Soul Renaissance' and you can get it from me. A proper hardcore rare soul fanzine. Had a chance to go glossy, not interested. Martyn Got any back issues Martin? I would particularly like to read the issue that had a write up about my allnighter.
  8. I wonder just how many different cuts/versions of this there are? I was just listening to an old recording of Butch, and the version that he was playing was far superior to the ones I've heard before.
  9. Probably the sort of tacky premiere where they will have NORTHERN SOUL DANCERS in the foyer giving away black bomber replica sweets!! ha! Sorry to go off topic here Paul, but I just wondered did anyone ever film a performance of O.U.A.T.I.W. play? It's quite a few years since I saw it, and I would love to see it again. DVD?
  10. Can't understand why anyone would buy the thing in the first place.
  11. Link doesn't work for me mate.
  12. Opinions are like arse holes, we've all got them....this seems to be one of those that you either love or don't. I must admit that it always fills the floor, so very popular with the dancers.....I thought it would go for more than it did, but the reserves sometimes put people off.....
  13. Did you sell your King George Phil? Yes and no, I traded it.
  14. This record gives pants a bad name That made me laugh, mind if I steal that one Joan? Classic The first time I heard the record, I thought it was the Everly Brothers. But when you hear it clearly, it sounds like very young kids [kiddy soul]
