It's probably been asked before, but I haven't seen the thread. Why do All-nighters start so early and finish so early now, where as in the past the main time a Nighter used to start was around the 12 O'clock mark. I ask this question from the point of view of a long distance traveller, if a Nighter starts at 9pm to get to somewhere like Manchester from the start we usually leave in the afternoon where as when places like Blackburn and Bradford were on we were able to leave later as they started about 12 and finished around 8? Not a moan just a question. Also looking back on flyers, the numbers of DJs at a Nighter seem to have doubled, any reason for this? Once again not a moan just a question So please if a couple of promoters could let me know what is probably a very obvious and sensible reason?

Hi everyone This is Nikki, Antons wife and mum of Kira. I want to say a big heart felt thanks to all of you that have posted here and sent us personal messages. It has meant so much, the power of prayer and hope from people has been so important to us and is so warming to know people care. You're a good bunch you know! She was allowed home today but is very weak and will continue her course of IV antibiotics at home. We know we have been so lucky, we thank are lucky stars this was caught so early as this as you know is such a terrible quick disease. People have had much more terrible encounters with this than us and I can only imagine what they have been through as I know what my little girl has gone through this week I would not wish on anyone. We thought we were going to lose her at the weekend and now shes been sitting at her dolls house! With love to you all and real heartfelt thanks Nikki Anton Jozef and Kira xxxx

A few problems this morning but this evening it was like someone turned a swich on she did some drawing and demanded to be taken for a walk in daddys arms off we went and she told me everything she saw along the hallway. Don't know if there will be any damage to here eyesight or hearing, but not really worried about that at the mo, just pleased we have our little girl back. and soon she will be dancing like this again

Meningitis is not a thing that you ever think is going to affect you until it does, and as our dear daughter Kira contracted the bacteria on Friday. We had a few very close calls over the last few days but she is out of the woods now. I would like to thank all those wonderful people on this great scene for their great support over the past few days. You have been a tower of strength to us and we are so grateful to be part of such a fantastic group of people one again THANK ALL SO MUCH. We hope she will be coming out later on this week.

The reason why freaks like this woman appear in dance comps, is because of the amount of criticism the gymnastic, or high coordinated dancers have come in for, so they stay away, but who is more silly, those who throw themselves around the floor with style or those of us who spend huge amounts of money on a piece of 7" vinyl. I have tried both, and find, by far, it's easier to spend silly amounts of money on vinyl, but if I could do what the likes of Keb Darge can do, I would definitely want to show it off, especially at my age. There is so much that makes up our scene, why not live and let live. Or before we know it we will have antique road show interested in our Vinyl and laughing at us !!?? As for the woman in question she should have been shown how to shave in the right places before cart wheeling below a balcony and more so shot for having no SOUL

Soul FriendsI feel I must put must put pen to paper, so to speak and voice something that concerns me, the reason for this is that over the last twenty odd years on the Soul scene I've met some great people, sadly some of whom are now dead. Recently another good friend of mine died very unexpectedly at only 45. This is my point, eight years ago I left the Soul scene to have a family and now I have returned, gaining again some great friends and rekindling some old friendships, but I find, there are many people who treat other people on the Soul Scene with a certain amount of suspicion, to say the least. This, I think is rather silly as we should embrace other soul fans and enjoy their company no matter what they wear or their Soulful preference of music, this scene we are on, can shrink and expand so easily, there are so many style of Soulie now that come from so many eras of our great scene we should be grateful of other true Soul addicts. And look forward as I do to seeing them at the next Soul Event. Life is so short. Live for NOW R.I.P. PAUL WALKER

Probabley the best thing would be to ban the words OLDIES and NEWIES and just say good or bad. But then you're stuck with the old saying "every ones music is the best in the world"

Of course, but surly not in blocks, yes I know it sounds fussy but if these things aren't pointed out then no one would be any the wiser, and innocently alienate the punters without ever knowing.

I purposely did not mention the name of the event on Saturday as the majority of the night was great and I thoroughly enjoyed myself, Dave Rimmer played a great spot and there were many other jems played by other people if the night was as bad as that I would have left but my point was general, as a few times during the night there were the ineviatable obscure points, whether the records are known or not they can still be classed as obscure. If the critisim can not be taken then fine, but there was a time when DJs played out played oldies constantly untill some one said something. at some point a happy medium was reached, and the scene is still going, but there you go, I apoligise if you take such offence, Stuart, As for the reason for me not attending a Crossfire event again. The people who decided to beat the hell out of a girl on the dance floor, because she reqested they not dance on the floor with full pints of beer, are apparently regulars ( but only at london dos, and are not particularly in to the scene) why would I want to go to more events with such people. The other point, I would never name a top ten any more as it is constantly changing with the new records I hear. It was Gene That once told me that a DJs spot should be like a wave going up in tempo and then lowering again for the more mellow sounds and then start again this seemed to make perfect sense to me and would make the floor happy and he still does this now

:diablo: Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't going to a Northern soul do always been about going out and having fun, dancing to the misic you love, meeting up with the people you know enjoy the same music and going home feeling that you have been to somewhere better than the average Joe in the street. this would put alot of pressure on a D.J. having to get the floor moving and getting the balance right, of the sounds people enjoy and love, and giving an injection of less known and rare sounds in to their spot, whilst keeping the floor dancing, surely their job is to get you to dance or we could have events without dance floors and put seating in and hand out note books. i went to an event this weekend where the DJs seemed intent on showing off what rareties they had rather than filling the floor and injecting the odd underplayed or rare sound. What is wrong with these peoople many events have come and gone but never stayed. as no one can handle this amount of obscurity in one hit. The like of Stafford, Blackburn ( When run by Guy Hennigan) the Hundred Club and of course Bradford got it right playing the much loved sounds mixed with brand new sounds, giving people the chance to absorb and learn to enjoy the newies then making them eager for the next new tune to be played by an individual DJ. this is how our scene has moved forward over the last twenty years. I am not for a minute suggesting that we should listen to tired Oldies all night but please Mr DJ spare a thought for those who want to sweat their crappy week away at a norhtern soul do with a good atmosphere. When you have been on the soul scene for some time it is as much a treat to hear a great forgotten oldie as it is to hear a brand new dance track. Just keep dancing.

When I first came across Northern Soul, A few things struck me, the friendliness of the fans, the Music of coarse and the fantastic dancing that some of the people were doing. This has always been a great part of our scene and those who think that these guys and girls are showing off great, don't look, but to many it a great part of the night to see these guys/girls pull off fantastic moves and sweat the night away. Surely the age old thing of how do you get new blood on to the scene, Young people want to release energy so I would encourage the high energy dancing that makes Northern Soul dancing what it is. And as for the old farts like my self you can laugh at us when we do the spits and can't get back up or try to pull a wind mill and land in a tangled heap on the floor, but please bring back the dancers as this always added to fuelling a good night for many of us. , hearing the clapping and seeing the acrobatics that are as much a part of our scene as the music we love.
