  1. Agree with you there. When kicking out time came everbody seemed to disappear like coackroaches when the light is turned on. By 08.30 place was deserted. Coaches ,cars gone. i think first train back to Manchester was about 09.45 ish. By that time people just wanted to get home and have a soak in the bath, or sink a couple of pints at midday then crawl in the charriot. Some people were too tired to speak never mind cause any commotion.
  2. Whether there was any influence on certain people i dont know. Having gone to both i would say that they both had their plus points , but Wigan with the size of the venue compared to the Torch looked more likely to last the longer. Maybe it was the fact that although there was large crowds at Wigan , there was very little trouble. Maybe the police thought, as there is not a lot of trouble at the event , any drug issues we can tackle separately. When the venue became famous and coaches started turning up from all over the country, the council maybe thought this could be good for the towns image, so although the drug problem still existed, with low levels of trouble combined with a good image for the town , maybe that s why it lasted longer.
  3. Invite your mother in law around and serve Christmas dinner on it.
  4. Thought Carol Mcarthy was one.
  5. You don't state which dance competions. There must be many over the years.
  6. The train to Crewe was an electric four coach kinda thing. The same ones were used on the slow train to Stoke. I remember they had these really comfy ,bouncy seats that when going over the points would bounce you merrily up and down, If you were buzzin it would make you fall about with laughter.
  7. Just read an Obituary from the Philadelphia Daily News. Nice that he is still remembered well in his home city.
  8. Any obits anywhere?
  9. In the last few months whilst travelling around the Manchester Area i have noticed lots of people either with Keep The Faith bags or small badges on lapels . Has this come as a new kind of fashion accessory, or have people got them mixed up thinking they have something to do with Pope's visit. Just on the bus going into Manchester the other day one lady had a keep the faith bag whilst a young lad had a badge on his bag. In Withington two young schoolgirls were going to school, both had new shiney Keep The Faith bags round their shoulders. I am sure that they are not all Northern fans..On this subject does anybody know who first designed and made the first patches. I remember going to the Torch with a Torch patch on one side, and a Right on Patch sewn on the other top side of my Levi jacket. By the time The Casino came along there was patches galore. Obviously the closed fist was symbol of The Black Power movement and Right on slang of the time. Any info?
  10. Ahh happy days. I used to go to Spin Inn on Cross St then to Rare Records on John Dalton St in Manchester. Then try any old second hand stores on the way home.Few and far betwween now.
  11. It all depends on when you either went to, or played records at a youth club.If like you went when the Casino was going ,you maybe would have heard some cuts from there .As for myself when i used to go to youth clubs it was the time of the Wheel so sometimes you would hear tracks from there. The only thing that still amazes me though is that the same records were being played in youth clubs in Bury ,Rochdale,,Burnley Bolton etc by young kids who hadn't been to the Wheel either.
  12. The best d.js dont brag or here's me, here's, me! They come on, play hopefully what people want then quietly exit the stage. I would suggest you keep collecting and at the same time do a few spots to highlight your record collection. Word soon gets around.
  13. Yes i was going to mention that one. Was played quite a lot in the early
  14. Coaches were used a lot in the seventies, mainly because many people did not have their own transport. Nowadays people tend to use their own cars mainly for convenience. You can have a dedicated driver so the others can have a few drinks, plus if you want to leave early you don't have to hang around waiting for the coach.or until everbody is accounted for.. If the Allnighter is a good distance away then maybe it would make sence, but with cost of coaches anyway it would not be cheap as the driver would have to spend two days with departure on one day with the return not until the next morning.
  15. I thought that the term Rare Soul meant that not so much that the record was rare, but that it was a record that wasn't played anywhere else in the mainstram of places. I'm most likely wrong again as i usually am.
  16. Sorry could not find the adress for that second hand store . If you stood outside the Galleria which is a shopping mall you go left on Westheimer rd which is also called Farmer to market rd. You just followed this road for about three miles where you came to some shops that sold like upmarket second hand clothes that young trendys liked to shop in. It was near to these. Sorry couldn't be much more specific.
  17. I was in Houston a few years back and found a second hand record shop on the way to the Galleria. It also doubled up as a tatto parlour next door. I had a word with the guy in the shop who told me he wasn't the owner , but the guy who was had a garage full of records. I will look around to see if i can find you the adress somewhere and will get back tp you. I bought quite a few by O V Wright there.
  18. Thanks for that info Boba it gives me a starting point. I know Michael Ochs did a lot of photo work in Chicago so will start there.
  19. Could you tell me what period of time The Visitors or The mists or Mist were formed and any years of their recordings. That will give me a timeframe to look at. Cheers.
  20. I see a few complaints about the sound quality. I run my t.v. through a digital amp connectected to headphones . The sound quality i got from the gig was excellent.
  21. Forget your U2s,Gorillas,and Muse this guy knows how to bring the house down. Absolutely Awesome set.
  22. Very sad to hear of his death. I remember him as a shy and quiet guy with his white singlet and ballet pumps. When you got to know him ,and he could trust you, he was also very amusing. I remember a few years ago after a allnighter near Wigan i asked him if he could give me a lift home. He said "o.k." The car was parked in a car park so i jumped in. He said "Got to find signs for the motorway". After driving round Wigan for about ten minutes looking for way to the motorway he made a right and we ended right back in the same carpark. All he said was "What time does the next allnighter start". We made it to the moterway eventually.
  23. Thanks for all the info. I used to buy all the U.K. releases and obviously thought that maybe some d.j. or promoter on the scene at the time had got the rights to release them. Once again what a wealth of knowledge you lot are. Thank you.
  24. Just a quicky, Who was the person responsible for those Jayboy re-releases in the early seventies. Stuff like Try a little harder-Fi-Dels
