Later worked by Larry Clinton as a Funkadelic b side Fish Chips and Sweat. As he co-wrote it why not.

It wouldn't surprise me if Chuck Jackson hasn't.

Knowing the price of which some singles go for today, i was wondering which LP's are the rarest and hard to find in the Soul genre and what kind of prices are we talking about.today. Cheers Nige.

Roy Handy -- Baby that's a groove is littered with strange lyrics "We picked up a bag of fish and chips, and baby thats a groove"
-
I only tend to dance to the tracks i like, and not whats just popular at the time.
-
Thanks for that. Like you say most likely re-issues of the day. It was the time of the wheel so maybe they had quite a few popping in asking for a certain record, or a list of records so they ordered a few more copies at the same time. Still was enjoyable to pop in on Sat morning and see what they had.

Spin Inn was a little different as not only were they selling soul re-releases, but were also selling a small quantity of imports.
-
When i used to ask in for items in the bigger shops like Nield and Hardy they would just say something like "never heard of it" Maybe somebody used to go into rare records and tell the owner that if he ordered some copies of these , that they would sell well.
-
I would have thought it the other way round,ie that it was the big shops that you couldnt find them.

I was thinking the other day about my early record collecting. Me and my friend Frank use to travel from Stockport up to Manchester . First we'd check out the junk shops looking for any Motown,Black/Red Atlantic,Blue/Yellow Stax, then on to Spin Inn on Cross St. After a looksee there we would cut across to Rare Records on John Dalton St. It was more of a Classical/Jazz/folksy type of store, but downstairs they used to put up a list on the wall of their latest 45,s just in. Artists like Joy Lovejoy,Roscoe Robinson,Ronnie Milsap,Roger Collins,Billy Harner etc. Now this would be about 1971,before i even started going to The Pendelum. So the question i ask is,had these re-releases not been deleted by their record company,s, so all the shop had to do was phone up a record distributor and say for instance"can you send me thirty copies of Joy Lovejoy-In Orbit. They couldn't have had large quantities of these tracks as sometimes there would scribble out some of the list and add sold out. If this wasn,t the case then who was responsible for selling these tracks to the shops in the first place Sometimes i would ask the assistant for a certain record and he would take this large book, look it up and usually reply"Sorry its deleted". The tracks on the lists were always NS records of which i purchased many. Any info please.

Wigan Casino to me is where some of the best records were played and some of the worst. Condition Red - Baltimore and whoever else's marching band is terrible, but people still danced to it.

Vogues- Thats the tune. Ruby Andrews-Just loving you Joe Hicks- Don't it make you feel funky.

Why Do We Dislike Al Wilson's The Snake So Much?
nrc replied to Dave Bishop FM's topic in All About the SOUL
Its just not a good record,as well as being overplayed everywhere, simple as that. -
Jimmy Mack’s unique vocal styling and musical talents placed him in high demand throughout the 60’s and 70’s, and has traveled the globe world wide. He has performed with such renowned artists as Sam Cooke, Mary Wells, The Drifters, Ben E King, Wilson Pickett and many many more. He is also the brother of the world renowned R&B legend, the late Wilbert Harrison who was also infamous and on the Bill Board with his mega hit ’Kansas City’. Prior to discovering his vocal abilities he was first known as an awesome professional drummer. He played with his brother Wilbert while recording 'Kansas City', the TKO band & scores of others. Jimmy Mack was also a member of the famed RCA’s recording artist label, the Fabulous Fiestas for which they enjoyed great success with their hit, ’So Fine’. He was also known during the Motown hey days as ‘Lenny Curtis’ with hits such as ‘Nothing Can Help You Now’ & ‘Who You Gonna Run To’ on END records and it continues to be a hit in the UK today. Taking on another persona as 'Geronimo & the Apaches with Galiko Records and the single titled, 'Too Late For Tears & Oh Yes Baby I Love You So''. He also had recording performances with another sibling & was called ‘The Harrison Brothers’ & 'Jim & Bob Harrison'. Jimmy was also a writer & arranger for Motown Records. He continues his infamous talent in the gospel arena and was a featured artist on the Tyscot Record label with his cousin, the Prince of Gospel, Pastor John P Kee. Their duet recording of the song, "Be Ready" (Inner City Mass Choir) was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2000. When not singing, writing and composing, Jimmy is an avid recreational carpenter and lawn perfectionist. I cut this off the internet Steve. He,s writing about Jimmy Mack Harrison who was the brother of Wilbert Harrison of "Kansas City" fame. Wether this article is true i couldn't say as others say Lenny was an East Coast artist probably New York who didn't record in Detroit. Hope it is of interst to you. Nige.

Thanks to all for the info. So to sum up i guess it was the UK re- release in 1975 on the Route label that made it to 35 in the Uk charts. I thought myself that it didn't get released in the UK in 65, thats what i was mis-interpreting in the discography. Thanks.
-
I noticed on wicki that Get Out and make me Cry is listed as reaching no 35 in the UK charts in 65. Could you tell me on what label it came out on in the UK.

Thats the one. Thank you John. This is a tricky one, it's a shared album from Betty Everett and Ketty Lester but the label on side A says Betty Everett - Robbie Winston and the label on side B says Ketty Lester - Robbie Dickerson. Soooo, I did some searching and found: Side A 1-4 are definitely Betty Everett with The Impressions. Side A 5 is on a CD compilation as being by Robbie Winston and it is credited to her (she has a voice not dissimilar to Betty Everett with perhaps some Ronnie Spector). Side B 1-2 are definitely Ketty Lester (her powerful voice is unmistakable) Side B 3-4 are a toss up, Spotify identifies them as being Betty Everett but her voice is not too far off from Robbie Winston, but they're definitely not Ketty Lester. Side B 5 is credited to Robbie Winston. LP is VG+/Cover is VG (no split seams, light fraying on the opening edge, some shop ring discoloration). Tracks are (see above not for possible discrepancies): 1. Please Love Me (Betty Everett And The Impressions) 2. I've Got A Claim On You (Betty Everett And The Impressions) 3. I'll Be There (Betty Everett And The Impressions) 4. Your Love Is Important To Me (Betty Everett And The Impressions) 5. Help Me (Robbie Winston) 1. Queen For A Day (Ketty Lester) 2. I Said Goodbye To My Love (Ketty Lester) 3. One And One Don't Always Make Two (Betty Everett) 4. Marry Me Baby (Betty Everett) 5. Thank You (Robbie Winston) Just cut this off one for sale on E-Bay. Just goes to show on a budget album you don,t always get what it says. But will still buy it.

Just a quickie here. According to Wikipedia it says an album Betty Everett and Ketty Lester 1964 (one side each). But i can't seem to find the name of the album. Is it correct?
