it was a quiz question that included the words "signed for" and "Motown" ....not a 45 released record with a Gordy family label....

What a truly silly thread this.........
By the way, and i'll probably get some crap about this, I've seen Richard Searling playing northern
off CD's in the main northern room at a major event.
Kegsy
I would hate to second guess The Committee for the selection of approved or allowed DJs to play music off non-original format at revival events (DATSNOFARE)'.....but I guess they would include Richard Searling.
-
At the next kings hall at Stoke there are some of the scene's top Dj's - Soul Sam, Mick H, Andy Dyson etc... all playing original vinyl.
Will Chris King be playing original vinyl or off Cd's like one or two have mentioned? Personally i would feel cheated as a punter never mind if i was also one of the other DJ's.
Not knocking Stoke by the way, i think its a fantastic niter, just a curious for the answer
You're missing the point...... kings hall is not a revival event ...... Is it?

Here is a question !
a couple of weeks ago there was a big hoohar at a gig in Burnley when someone requested a record and the DJ didn't have it
what if that DJ had have said
"I don't have it with me but i have it on a CD in my car if you would like to hear it "
what would the punter have said ?
or better still what would you have said if you were that punter ?
You are totally missing the point......it has to be at a revival event and the said DJ must be on the chosen few list as selected by the committee.....
-
Could someone please compile a list of dj's who are allowed to play off CD?
No Pete, first we need to appoint a committee who will in turn list the DJs who can and who can't....
-
Just a thought....if it is ok for the the chosen few to play CDs at a revival event would it be ok for them just to send a life size cardboard cut out to stand behind the decks and plug in a memory stick....this would save the DJ his travelling costs and also to leave him free to continue his unending search for new modern soulful tunes!

Billboard Music Week dated January 23 1961 (page 18) is a paid advert for a number or Storm label releases (noted as distributed by Candix) which includes J J Jackson (501 label number) .
therefore I suggest it was released late 1960 because it is referred to as a smash hit!
-
Thanks Joe.
So, who can confirm this for me (us)?
As far as I recall the Candix label was not pressed by Monarch . Surfin' by the beach boys on the label was released in 1961 and the label went bust early 1962 so that's why I guess 1961.
-
Does anybody know when this was released? What year?
Also demo only on Candix circa 1961
-
no just needed the money Martin hopew you are feeeling better
I hope to a DJ so that it gets plenty of play.
I'm on road to recovery and hope to get out to solid hit near the end of feb. Would like to do lifeline but not sure I'll manage an allnighter.
thanks for asking.

Oopps you beat me to it. Hope your recovery is going well, and you are looking after yourself young man.
I feel I should point out that this record may be too exciting for your new health regime so feel free to pass it on to me, being such a nice guy I would obviously accept grudgingly!
Thanks, Jocko, I'm resting well. If i ever get two copies of the LP I'll give you a shout.

The P-Vine album "Got To Find A Way" contains an absolute monster unissued track "I Don't Know What I'd Do". I wonder if it's ever had Northern scene spins as it's an absolute belter.
Phenomenal singer, right up there with the all-time greats.
Still on my wants list..... Dave Flynn has my standing order....

Dare I ask how much are we talking ? bet its expensive . By the way the i believe in you track is delightful !

Yes - "Let's Take A Look At Our Life" - Emory & Dynamics on Peachtree
Thanks also go to Chalky for these podcasts.
Is this the one that has "Things That A Lady Ain't Suppose To Do" as that's the same group but called "The Four Dynamics" also on Peachtree.
Martin - Hope you're being good, celery and carrot juice?
ATB John
I believe Emory & the Dynamics became the Four Dynamics for William Bell's label.
I'm being good John!!!
-
Can anyone tell me who sings Take a look ?
Is that Emory & Dynamics on Peachtree?
