  1. He originally recorded as "Jet Powers" in an Elvis style - once had a bootleg lp with a dynamite rock&roll track by him...lost in the mists of time now
  2. Think you may have to take a little bit of the emphasis off "Wigan Casino" though to be honest - just stick to Northern Soul. There are some good lads running venues in that area who I'm sure would be happy to give you some advice. Would love to be able to help myself but all I promote is love, happiness and tolerance
  3. It does say so, in post number 1, which is where I cut and pasted it from: "also got me thinking about other first rate soul and dance sides that were only issued, as 45s, on legit-release oldies 45"
  4. Don Ray is brilliant, what are you talking about
  5. This bit I think, in the first post of the thread also got me thinking about other first rate soul and dance sides that were only issued, as 45s, on legit-release oldies 45
  6. I've only ever seen one issue - I'll buy it back off you!
  7. Got you a present Tone
  8. HERB WARD – STRANGE CHANGE – ARGO DEMO VG++ 325 Few marks and bit of label wear on the edges but very very strong player, perfect for djing and I'll enclose a sound clip of the actual record below.  Tough record and proven floorfiller for the last 30 years!
  9. The Roy Hamilton cd is great by the way
  10. I should also add that despite Gary Dean being advertised for sale on here for £800 or similar, I still have one for sale at £450
  11. How about Freddie Chavez selling for $1050 on sunday - wasn't even an issue, just a demo, I wouldn't have thought more than £250!
  12. PJ Proby's version is okay but very "pub singer-ish", it's not within a million miles of the Idle Few version
  13. Two different labels though - Jenny & Jewels, Betty Wrigley etc are on Hit not Spar, the equivalent of UK Embassy
  14. Probably a couple of years back when they 'reformed'. When I tracked down the lead singer in the late 80's, he told me he often called himself John St John!
  15. Crazy Cajun John, but I think you're right
  16. Also the version of As Quiet As It's Kept on Lost Nite is a totally different (and better) version than the one that came out on RCA. I'll add The Charades - You Better Believe It - Harlem Hit Parade
  17. Steve "red face" G
  18. They ceased to be sensible dress in 1979 and they look ridiuclous nowadays, whoever's wearing them. In my opinion.
  19. It has Mark Loyd on the B side Paul.
  20. Anyone agree that this is the original name and they chose to change it for some reason, or did they run two very similar labels at the same time?
  21. Saw them at Wigan...well I say saw them, they were on but I probably went in M's!
  22. Sorry - still disagree - Embers came out on it's own first on Sidewalk.
  23. Steve I have to slightly disagree with you there, I think this is later, maybe even 79/80 because the Embers was booted on Sidewalk in 1977 and the Jewels booted on MGM late 77, remember those blue vinyl 'demos'.
