He originally recorded as "Jet Powers" in an Elvis style - once had a bootleg lp with a dynamite rock&roll track by him...lost in the mists of time now
Think you may have to take a little bit of the emphasis off "Wigan Casino" though to be honest - just stick to Northern Soul. There are some good lads running venues in that area who I'm sure would be happy to give you some advice. Would love to be able to help myself but all I promote is love, happiness and tolerance
It does say so, in post number 1, which is where I cut and pasted it from:
"also got me thinking about other first rate soul and dance sides that were only issued, as 45s, on legit-release oldies 45"
This bit I think, in the first post of the thread
also got me thinking about other first rate soul and dance sides that were only issued, as 45s, on legit-release oldies 45
HERB WARD – STRANGE CHANGE – ARGO DEMO VG++ 325
Few marks and bit of label wear on the edges but very very strong player, perfect for djing and I'll enclose a sound clip of the actual record below.  Tough record and proven floorfiller for the last 30 years!
Probably a couple of years back when they 'reformed'. When I tracked down the lead singer in the late 80's, he told me he often called himself John St John!
Also the version of As Quiet As It's Kept on Lost Nite is a totally different (and better) version than the one that came out on RCA.
I'll add The Charades - You Better Believe It - Harlem Hit Parade
Steve I have to slightly disagree with you there, I think this is later, maybe even 79/80 because the Embers was booted on Sidewalk in 1977 and the Jewels booted on MGM late 77, remember those blue vinyl 'demos'.
