  1. Don't think I've seen MOC, who's on it?
  2. I forsee in my crystal ball that it will be the oldies that survive, and why drop the term Northern Soul, thats what brought most of us together in the first place...and when are people going to stop trying to re-educate other people when they are not interested in learning, this is what I don't understand. I'd never dream of lecturing someone into modern soul on the meritse of Nappy Brown's "Coal Miner" (it hasn't got any) or some other ancient rock n roll r n b record and saying they have to like it or they are not a proper soul fan. It's all down to individual choice at the end of the day, and the more you try to force things on people, the more they will resist.
  3. Almost every day I see a new label that was distributed in the States at some time by London/Decca. They all have the distinctive two tone orange colours. I'm thinking about labels such as Tribe and the one below which is yet another new one on me. Things like the Hot Tamales record, at one point came out on a London distributed version of the Detroit label. If anyone spots any others can they post them here please?
  4. Seven Dwarves is a garage record if anything but no worse than Deadbeats, Boston Hitesmen, Traditions etc. Great dancing records.
  5. The only jazz part of the Lou Pride record is the out of tune trumpets at the end, apart from that, out and out Northern. Joe Hicks? Makes me feel funky...
  6. In that case, f*ck off then
  7. Seconded
  8. Theres only ever one person made a complaint about it..
  9. I honestly don't know, but it was just a passing phase anyway, most of them probably jumped on the next bandwagon and left evryone to it
  10. Problem is, blown my nose so many times that inner liniing must have gone and now I've got to keep cotton wool up there otherwise it won't stop bleeding..and I'm scaring my little boy with this bloody cotton wool hanging out of one nostril
  11. This is the Northern Soul top 500, or rather, these are the records from the Northern Soul top 500 that I own. 12. I think that probably is true. In late 79 there were more mods than soulies going to Wigan, and I believe they would have been catered for in that manner. I also heard My Generation played at Stafford TOTW all dayer at the same time.
  13. Yes but you wouldn't expect to hear heavy metal at a northern do - the suggestion was should funk be played at a northern do - so is funk as far removed from northern as heavy metal is? Is it true that Led Zepplin's Trampled Underfoot was played at the Mecca or is that just folklore?
  14. Paul everything I say to you and vice versa seems to keep coming out wrong so I just wanted to apologise if you think I'm having a right go at you, I'm not. Not that you'd be bothered or anything. Just can't seem to make the point I'm trying to make thats all. Plus I've got the flu.
  15. It's the way he uses the word 'dinosaurs', presumably meaning those of us who prefer the traditional 1966 style northern dancers, except in reality, everybody moans about everything; some people can't stand r & b, some can't stand modern, some can't stand crossover. Very few people like every strand of soul music, same as for instance I don't like every strand of reggae music, even though many people say "it all sounds the same"
  16. Don't know if you were referring to me (biggest?) but 99% of all records I buy off Ebay are to resell on at a profit because it's my full time job, selling records. Just thought I'd better clear that up.
  17. I was having a good day before you printed that Dave Godin article. However, as the man is untouchable on here I won't comment any further. I have got flu, but I'm not having too bad of a day. As for the rest of your post, I haven't got a clue what you're on about, I say I like it but won't admit it, whachootalkinboutwillis?
  18. Well give me some examples of the records we were hearing at the same time Dave instead of just making a sweeping statement that I don't like any of them! I've probably got half of them. As for the well worn Godin comment, the reason there was no mention of it being 60's only is because he said it in 1970 and therefore anything past that couldn't have been referenced, could it?
  19. Thanks for the info Sebastian. Dave, just needed to know what it was, what label etc. Steve, know the record you're on about, got it in a pic sleeve. And Jaco, loved the first devo album but had given up on them by the time Whip It came out
  20. called Whip It On Me or Whip It On Me Baby? cheers
  21. Can't tell you the matrix but all you need to do is look at the title and artist credits, if the title is smaller than the artist then it's a reissue. Never known a record mistaken for an original so often
  22. Is Get It Baby now a funk record? What about Landslide, great funk track? I'm glad you're up for the job of being the saviour of the northern scene with your fantastic eclectic taste in music Paul but when you've got people walking out on a Soul Sam spot that must surely tell you that your message is becoming lost amongst the majority of people.
