  1. nobody is going to tell me that Rose Batiste, Willie Tee, Landslide, Billy Prophet, I'm Your Pimp and so on are not great records just because they are in Kev Roberts book! Doesn't matter how many times you hear them - they are just great records and I could read about them and listen to them for ever basically...well I have been!
  2. I'd pay £50 for a dvd of it, I never saw it!
  3. Have you read the previous two? I absolutely love this book and it's the best Northern book that's been published bar none, I couldn't have done a better job myself and I doubt if any of you lot could either. You all read too much into the fact that someone decided there was a top 500 of Northern sounds and instead of enjoying whats written about the records and the scene, you can't bear it because it doesn't have your choices in there, which would probably be records known to about 20 collectors. If you didn't get into the scene until the 90's then it actually does educate people about sounds. I never went to the Wheel, Torch or Catacombs, I had to find out or be told what records were played there. The book has got f*ck all to do with whats available from Goldsoul. The criticism of it's author is maybe warranted but the criticism of the book is completely unjustified. And no doubt most of the people slagging it off have never even read it.
  4. Thats not the point. Kev Roberts did it so it must be shit, you know the rules round here.
  5. There's not a problem, he was just saying it would probably be a styrene copy not a vinyl one as it originated in California (monarch pressing plant)
  6. I can categorically confirm that there is NOTHING wrong with the green copies except that they all have an excess piece of plastic on the run in that looks like it might have caused a problem, but it doesn't. Anyone who tells you it is off centre or plays with noise just has a duff copy. Also don't forget it was bootlegged with Detroit Soul on the b side.
  7. Nice of me to tell though wasn't it, where's my halo gone...
  8. Never seen a vinyl one from anywhere
  9. I like cranberry juice
  10. Too expensive for me but oneof you lot might want it https://cgi.ebay.com/MINT-M-NORTHERN-SOUL-4...1QQcmdZViewItem
  11. Well thats even more all over the place, the Mark Copage dates it to 75 (it was reissued that year)! You sure it's Popcorn Wylie's Hanky Panky? (Not saying it's not like, just wondering how it's possible)
  12. Just checked, it was £34.99, tight sods

  14. Paul your date is way out I'm afraid, 1977 was the year it was discovered and it was released, like they say, on the first Grapevine album which appeared in early 78
  15. BOUND TO BE ISSUES MATE BUT i'VE NEVER SEEN ONE. I REALLY LIKE THE RECORD TO BE HONEST BUT CAN'T SEEM TO GET A LOT OF INTEREST IN IT, SOMEONE SHOULD GIVE IT A GOOD PLAYING OUT AND IT'LL SOON GO BIG
  16. Think it went for £45 on ebay...
  17. I'll put the whole lot up as an audio clip if you want me to
  18. Have they still got an outline of the record middle on their forehead? "Hey whats that circle thing on your forehead, a birth mark"?
  19. "Pop" is in the ear of the beholder surely. Some will call Don't Pity Me (Joanie Sommers) pop, I call it a brilliant Northern Soul record. I don't call it a soul record because it's not, but it is Northern Soul. Two separate genres of music. Julian Covey "A little bit hurt", perfect Northern dancer. Not soul though. Chapter Five "You can't mean it" as good a stomper as has ever been made. Not soulo though. Dean Parrish "Determination" one of the best Northern Soul records ever made, but by a white bloke from Jersey, so not soul? I don't care if they are pop in some peoples opinions, they are great records, you slag me off for being blinkered against modern soul but that has less to do with Northern Soul than most of the pop records that people claim to dislike. Don't be a sheep... p.s. I love The Crow record
  20. Sure I remember you saying you threw a record at someone, broke it and you've never seen it again - "City Skies"?
  21. It's Peat actually Moggy but it prefers to be called Peater
  22. I wish I could find out because this is the 4th day of this paticular gout-bout - though I know someone on the scene, I won't say who, who gets it so bad that it is debilitating and he has had to go into hospital for pain killing injections, thats how bad it can get.
  23. Just to say I am going to wrap this up on friday morning 11am. The offer on Gloria Barnes is at 315 quid and thats what it will sell for if it's not upped. The increments are £5. There are no offers on the other album. cheers Pete
  24. Sorry for rubbish scan but here's another
