  1. Thanks Martin but that joker wants 19 quid for one issue, I'd happily give him 2 quid
  2. If it sounds like I need those specific ones in the pic, I don't, my apologies - I need all and any issues, the mag started in 1960 and ran til about 75
  3. I don't think Lomax ever went to Africa.
  4. Iron it under a damp tea towel. Practice first!
  5. Ta for the link but nothing on their website, I'll ring them tomorrow
  6. Anyone who enjoys 60's psych, especially the Mark Wirtz stuff, may well like to check out this site https://www.marmalade-skies.co.uk/toytown1.htm it has the top 100 or so 'toytown' psych 45's, Mark has 3 entries (Sam, Excerpt and He's Our Dear Old Weatherman)...and all the track are available to download. Some seriously strange stuff there.
  7. It's for a quite interesting project - does anyone have any of these or know where I can get them..more interested in the 60's ones than 70's but any will do
  8. No it's not.
  9. Yes, of course - no extra charge for the postage or anything
  10. No, thats what I thought it was going to be - it's the one below. Both this and the one you mentioned are common on import but very rare on UK
  11. Just bumping this for those who may have missed it first time out
  12. Just bumping this for those who may have missed it first time out
  13. Not straight away, but eventually...can't remember if it was reduced slightly
  14. Nev the answer to your question is "no" basically. The only place to get reggae from is ebay. There are no sellers of original 60's 45's on the net to which you can go back to time after time. Some may get one or two things occasionally but you have to be lucky and get there at just the right time. If you search GEMM you'll find a lot of things but 95% of them are priced a good three times their actually value, the most overpriced being soul dealers. At the moment I've got the money to buy a handful of decent tunes but why pay £180 for The Uniques Gypsy Woman on Island when it's not worth half that?
  15. What so for you it was only relevant for 18 months after it opened and after that it was useless? 75 was brilliant. 76 was even more brilliant. 77 was incredible for 8 months. After that it started to flag but that mid period is incomparable. We went every week because we had no interest in visiting another nighter, the few who did were soon back the next week. The This England program, I agree, was awful and the dance footage is not a representation of what it was all about, we'd never seen half of those people before who made it to the broadcast. People can say what they like but I'm 47 now and I am still able to close my eyes and transport myself back to the first time I went to Wigan, gazing over that balcony watching the dancers below in absolute awe. I made my best ever mates there, heard the best ever music there and it was one of the major parts of my life for a couple of years and yes, if people slag it off without justifaction, I'll argue it's case, but the bottom line is: if you weren't there, how could you know it was crap?
  16. Anyone wants an EX copy I've got one for £40 NOW SOLD
  17. Thanks anyway - except it was 6 months ago that I had it for sale!
  18. Yeah like he'd know
  19. No not worthless - £5, £10, £15 depends who's buying.
  20. Bob Crewe produced many talented girl groups, and girl group singers.Among these were Liza Minelli, The Shepherd Sisters, Lesley Gore, Tina Turner, Shirley Matthews, Ginny Arnell, Gigi Parker, Hedy Sontag, Diane Renay, The Orlons, Dee Dee Sharpe, Barbara Banks, Vala Reegan, The Rag Dolls, Jean Thomas, Ellie Greenwich, Frankie Nolan, The Calendar Girls, Wendy Wilson (no, not the Beach Boys relation ),Kitty Noble, Sandy Williams, Marcie-Jo, and maybe a few others. One very fine singing gal he tried with numerous times was Tracey Dey. Hailing from Yonkers, New York, no one has heard the entire story of how Tracey and Bob became introduced to one another. Because Bob was the first of the independent producers, perhaps Tracey submitted a demo tape of herself on a song or two, as this would happen quite frequently with Bob Crewe. Or maybe, Tracey was a session singer, used on a few recording dates as a backup vocalist on another's latest "record of the day". Of course, what really matters is that they became known to one another, and Tracey became one of the most underrated and very best female vocalists of the 1960's golden girl group era. Beginning in the latter half of 1962, Tracey recorded and had released, a total of 10 singles for 4 different labels, an astounding 19 sides (one song was released twice) through late 1965 or early 1966. In addition, Tracey recorded 2 outstanding singles with Gary Knight,as the more beautiful half of the "Dey & Knight" duo, in 1966. Three of her recordings, "Jerry (I'm Your Sherry)", "Who's That", and "I Won't Tell" were co-written by Bob Gaudio & Bob Crewe, the same awesome team that wrote many of the biggest hits of The 4 Seasons. Probably her best song, "I Won't Tell" was the result of a Gaudio-Crewe effort. From it's thumping beginning, tough sounding girl vocals, thick background chorus, right through to it's surprise false ending, it remains one of the best girl group songs of all time. AND, it wasn't even a hit at it's time of release !!!! Some of her other best efforts are: "Teenage Cleopatra", "Any Kind Of Love" written by Larry Santos of Candy Girl fame, the soul flavored "Long Time, No See",and "Gonna Get Along Without You Now" the highest charting single of her all too short career. For jazz lovers, her 1965 obscure recording of "Shakin' The Blues Away" reveals why she was such an accomplished artist for her time. The Dey & Knight recordings are all great, and actually try to emulate the success of the early Sonny & Cher hits of the day, as well as having a strong Motown punch to them. "I'm Gonna Love You Tomorrow" is the strongest of the 4 songs. Tracey faded into obscurity after 1967 and little is known of her after that. It is known that she went into the business world as a female executive and was working in Canada years later. Someday, we might get lucky enough to learn of the "rest of the story", but until then, sit back, relax, and enjoy her fine vocals Mike Miller
  21. It is indeed Tracey Dey. What a great record.
  22. Yes more or less every record ever made will have some info in the run off. Patti Austin, Tobi Legend, those are easy as they didn't originally come out on those labels. Look for an M in a circle and a triangle followed by a 5 or 6 digit number. If any of the numbers star with 90 or 10, they are reissues (this only applies to the records listed, not legitimate new releases from 74-78)
  23. Going by the labels, most of those are going to be pressings / reissues. You need to supply a bit more info - I'd bet this mornings bacon sandwich that your Patti Austin, Manifesto, Tomangoes, Tobi Legend, Rita Dacosta are all pressings for a start and thats without seeing them. If your Epitome Of Sound is the offwhite label, that'll be ok, Joe Tex is original.
  24. That doesn't make sense Marc. It's generally acknowledged to be the first rock n roll record but I don't know what you mean about the 78 to 7" thing.
  25. Didn't know where to post this as it contains ska, rocksteady and reggae, and no point putting it in 'other' as only 1 track is not from the 60's https://planetrecords.podbean.com/ Another scintillating selection of ska, rocksteady and reggae, all dubbed from the original scratchy vinyl just like they should be!
