  2. 01902 326306 pete.smith@freeuk.com (don't forget this goes out to my mailing list first so I can't always get back quick enough to remove sold titles) Some used but not abused records. In fact, some not abused in the slightest and are my own personal copies. Some have surface marks but play perfectly. The following originals are all PLAY GRADED so they may look lesser than I grade them but I guarantee that it will play as graded! THE NATURALS — DON’T JUST STAND THERE — PATH EX 150 SOLD Hard one to price this; old Keb spin at Stafford — very rare, in fact it’s in John Manship’s Rarest Of The Rare section and listed at 400 quid. Really nice copy, two X’s on label and date 1-15-67 on B side STEMMONS EXPRESS — WOMAN LOVE THIEF — KARMA VG+ 150 REDUCED SOLD Very rare first issue. Has MINOR pops at the start, then plays great, on some of the quieter passages there’s a little background noise and crackle. I think my grading is accurate. Some wear to raised part of label. BIG MAYBELLE — I CAN’T WAIT ANY LONGER — ROJAC EX 40 SOLD Couple of light marks not affecting play, and no, it doesn’t have Quittin’ Time on the other side THE MONTCLAIRS — HUNG UP ON YOUR LOVE — PAULA M- 85 Stunning original BITS’N PIECES — KEEP ON RUNNING AWAY — NASCO M- 125 SOLD Great copy — this is the one you can hear on my last podcast MARTHA STAR — NO PART TIME LOVE FOR ME — THELMA M- 100 SOLD Tremendous copy DARROW FLETCHER — WHAT GOOD AM I WITHOUT YOU — JACKLYN EX 80 SOLD Few very light marks not affecting play — plays NM — bit of label wear on raised part GENE CHANDLER — MR. Ring wear on raised part of label and small “OK” on label. LA SHELL & THE SHELLETTS — YOU BETTER CHECK YOURSELF — EAGLE W/DEMO EX- 40 Good lesser known dancer on a rare white demo. B side is not in good shape. THE FUZZ — I’M SO GLAD — CALLA W/DEMO VG++ 20 Mono / Stereo demo. Small wol on white side DELORES LYNN — THE BIG SEARCH IS ON — JUNIOR VG++ 15 Blimey this one is fast! MAXINE DAVIS — I REALLY GOT IT BAD FOR MY BABY / BEFORE I LEAVE YOU — GUYDEN EX 30 First issue with two really good sides THE STAGEMASTERS — BABY I’M HERE JUST TO LOVE YOU — SLIDE EX 20 White label original — Chips (Weldon McDougal) promo sticker on label and “71” in marker THE INSTIGATIONS — I DON’T WANT TO DISCUSS IT — T BIRD EX 30 This was a massive version in 75/76. 3. Can anyone put a current price on The Naturals record, JM has it at £400 now but three on Popsike are all under £100. I have one I'm going to list today.
  4. stemmons express - woman love thief - karma annabelle fox - lonely girl - satin johnny sayles - can't get enough - st lawrence the naturals - don't just stand there - path lee andrews - never the less - crimson bits & pieces - keep on running away - nasco montclairs - hung up on your love - paula etc
  5. If you want :-)
  6. But the Tomorrow things were pre release demos that all the DJ's etc got, they were out for ages before the records came out - Doomsday was the follow up to Weak Spot, I have that on a Wigan tape from September 75, as with LJ Johnson.
  7. No it wasn't Drew, have a look at the date on the label for a start...
  8. I think Pointer Sisters is already on part 2 Rob (Posted up). Dean Courtney, Salvadors also. Todays People is scheduled for part 3 (early 1976). I don't think Robin Wilson really broke out of St Giles LOL Baltimore I had down as earlier than Wigan, probably wrong, Eddie Foster I hadn't got.
  9. Hey, call me suspicious but everything the seller from Carlisle puts up goes for f*cking ridiculous prices, there's a serious fiddle going on there, he sold a bloody Joe Tex "Powerful Love" for over £100 last week, anyone bidding on these records is getting mugged off. I think it's also the same seller who 'sold' stuff to have them mysteriously reappear a few weeks later.
  10. I'd have included many of those Dave but I could only use what I'd got on vinyl. Lynne Randell, Four Seasons, Joe Hicks are on the next one.
  11. Seller is on here regularly, he'll know!
  12. He did play Tommy Ridgeley, he'd probably been on the whiskey
  13. That could well be the next DJ playing those...but the tape doesn't lie
  14. NORTHERN SOUL — THE CASINO YEARS 1973 TO 1975 (Part Two) Part Two. Okay this is how it really was, warts and all. In this next set of podcasts, I’m going to be tracing the history of Northern Soul via the Wigan casino years. Not Wigan again you say…well it’s the only place I went, so therefore I can recreate the playlists from experience. Obviously some records cross over to and start in other clubs, but the playlist below is what you would could have expected to hear had you been on the Northern scene between 1973 and 1975. This is the second part of two episodes looking back at some of the scene’s biggest records of the period in a not strictly but not far off chronological order. There are some awesome records here, especially the last half, but there are a few that should be confined to history too: Lester Lanin, Judy Harris, T.D. Valentine to name but three. But leaving them out would be meddling with history…(apologies for The Gypsies track being all over the place!) Coming next - 1976 - 1977 Part One SAXY RUSSELL — PSYCHEDELIC SOUL REPARATA & THE DELRONS — PANIC TOBI LEGEND — TIME WILL PASS YOU BY THE INTICERS — SINCE YOU LEFT REGGIE GARNER — HOT LINE MICHAEL & RAYMOND — MAN WITHOUT A WOMAN TERRIBLE TOM — WE WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER TIMOTHY WILSON — LOVE IS LIKE AN ITCHING IN MY HEART BOBBY JASON — WALL TO WALL HEARTACHES JUDY HARRIS — YOU TOUCHED ME T.D. VALENTINE — LOVE TRAP JOHNNY BRAGG — THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT ME ACE CANNON — SEA CRUISE ILA VAN — CAN’T HELP LOVING THAT MAN SONS OF MOSES — SOUL SYMPHONY VAL McKENNA — LOVE FEELING THE CAPREEZ — HOW TO MAKE A SAD MAN GLAD BENNY CURTIS & THE DIRTY HEARTS — DIRTY HEARTS THE GYPSIES — IT’S A WOMAN’S WORLD ELOISE LAWS — LOVE FACTORY STANLEY MITCHELL — GE IT BABY DEAN PARRISH — DETERMINATION LOU PRIDE — I’M COMIN’ HOME IN THE MORNIN’ EDWIN STARR — TIME DON THOMAS — COME ON TRAIN JOHNNY ROSS & THE SOUL EXPLOSIONS — I CAN’T HELP MYSELF LESTER LANIN & HIS ORCHESTRA — DIZZY BUNNY SIGLER — GIRL DON’T MAKE ME WAIT SMOKY & THE FABULOUS BLADES — JERK BABY JERK MEL BRITT — SHE’LL COME RUNNING BACK THE MONTCLAIRS — HUNG UP ON YOUR LOVE BITS’N PIECES — KEEP ON RUNNING AWAY THE WORLD COLUMN — SO IS THE SUN HANK JACOBS — ELIJAH ROCKIN’ WITH SOUL THE DRIFTERS — YOU GOT TO PAY YOUR DUES CANDI STATON — NOW YOU’VE GOT THE UPPER HAND INTERNATIONAL GTO’S — I LOVE MY BABY KING ERRISON — ZOLA THE VELVET SATINS — NOTHING CAN COMPARE TO YOU THE SALVADORS — STICK BY ME BABY ANERSON BROTHERS — I CAN SEE HIM LOVING YOU THE BELLES — LET ME DO IT THE DEL LARKS — JOB OPENING LARRY SANTOS — YOU GOT ME WHERE YOU WANT ME SKULL SNAPS — I’M YOUR PIMP WILLIE MITCHELL — THE CHAMPION POINTER SISTERS — SEND HIM BACK FRANKIE (LOVE MAN) CROCKER — TON OF DYNAMITE JEAN CARTER — LIKE ONE https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/northern-soul-the-casino-years-1973-to-1975-part-two/

This is the first part of two episodes looking back at some of the scene’s biggest records of the period in a not strictly but not far off chronological order. It doesn’t matter if I am a year or six months out on some tracks, please just enjoy the music. I did this live from vinyl so some records show a little wear — also, the left hand deck was playing up so one or two tracks may sound a little slow in parts, only one or two though. Hope you enjoy this, the series will be one of the best I’ve ever done. 17. No they are actually thinking of expanding BBC 4 but making BBC 3 web only. They won't close BBC 4.
  18. Very jammy. Went for £120 I think.
  19. That record - I'd never heard of it - about 5 years ago I bought a collection and he also gave me a bag of mixed 'rubbish', Elvis, Stones, non-Northern Soul stuff like that, there was a copy of this in there! Sold it on ebay to someone in Japan.
  20. That really is fantastic - your collection's making mine look hopeless now!
  21. Mik - I sell it for that price, anyone else can sell it for whatever they like. I couldn't ask £100 for that, it's not a rare record.
