  1. Blimey...sounds like he's royalty
  2. You're gonna love this...tape kindly supplied by Andy Rix...Fantastic memories here from a legendary Northern Soul venue. The DJ is Pep and the sounds include Danny Monday, Delreys Inc, World Column, The Crow, King Errison, Mel Britt and loads more Cleethorpes classics...you can even hear the sound of dancing feet on the pier floor. There are two parts to this, the second part sits above the first on the website so make sure you play part 1 first. https://planetrecords.podbean.com/
  3. It's all down to individual opinions Baz, Russ Winstanley is way more important to me than Butch because he was one of the top dj's at a time which was the most important (and best) era for me personally. Always loved Russ's first spot 12.30 til 2am at Wigan. Nowadays he may be irrelevant in most peoples eyes but I'm talking about 30 odd years ago and so is this top 40.

  5. Surprisingly I know absolute sod all about him apart from he's a middle aged white bloke who dj's at reggae soundclashes, and thats only cos I've seen him on youtube. Not my era y'see.
  6. Definitely real - pressings are multi coloured label or on Soul Wax
  7. Yes it's very similar to A Man Like Me. There were a lot of those "Biddu" type productions round in the early 70's that got interest, The Playthings was mentioned last week and I heard one of the radio today I haven't heard in decades, Polly Brown - Up in a puff of smoke, that was a good youth club record that the girls all seemed to like. Nice nostalgic little pop tune.
  8. The majority of those are on officially released cd's. If you want to grab them for free go to www.soulclub.org and you'll find 99% of them. The intro to Get Out is about 40 seconds long, and The Night and Oh What A Night are two different tracks. You could always buy him the Wigan Casino Story vols 1, 2 and 3, Twisted Wheel Story 1 & 2 and Golden Torch Story 1 & 2, all on Goldmine label - thats should keep him happy.
  9. I don't really agree with this, it's got a bit of an edge to it with that guitar sound which at the time was still a pretty new innovation
  10. Don't think it was that early, I think it was released in 72/73 so it would be Torch/Cats, agree it was a monster youth club record though. Must have been deleted quickly because it was actually bootlegged on Orange like a US copy. Just found a scan of the bootleg - 1973 release originally.
  11. Wouldn't say classic - might have been played a couple of times - I remember hearing it once and there were copies everywhere (mid 78)
  12. You can't give the Big Boris record away nowadays. Someone mentioned the Liberty Soul File album (Sold On Soul)- I still think this is probably the best compilation album ever released, very intelligently put together with all og the bestdancers from UA/Liberty/Minit/Imperial and an introduction to "The Drifter" for many. Remember buying this in about 1986 from a shop in town and when I got it home, pulled the inner sleeve out and it had my name and address on it, it was my old copy! One of the worst comps or most disappointing was the Levine compiled one for Pye - full of 2nd rate Mecca tunes like Curtis Blandon
  13. If I'd had a bit of time I'd have checked the bank account but in all honesty I don't think I had more than 400 quid so that's all I could have bid, I think I put 250 on it with 30 seconds left but even then I was still only about 95% certain it was real. Still. comforting to know that only 2 of us spotted it
  14. Theres a great version by Tony Jackson on Pye - fuzz guitar a plenty
  15. Alright alright don't rub it in (I was second and only other high bidder but only saw it with 2 mins left!)
  16. Don't mention albums, just cost me £12 to send one to the States!
  17. I like the way you leave him neutral and he hits you back with negative. Once again, proves ebays feedback policy is a waste of time.
  18. But did he have the right to use the name at the time as therewas a US label of the same name? Dave Godin wasalivewhen these 45's first appeared in 2000 or 2001 so he would definitely have known about them. I hate the slap-dash approach though. Even in the last lot they did, "This thing called love" was credited to simply J. Wyatt. Did they not know his first name?
  19. Tell you what, I'll buy all 30 releases, play them and get back to you ok... The only bad ones I've heard are the Walter Admirations and one side of the Cashmeres.
  20. If people pay me 2 quid for post they are entitled to a brand new mailer, 3 pieces of cardboard and insurance up to £32. No excuses not to do that really. What I really hateare UK sellers who charge an extra 50p per\record when in fact you can send 3 records for same price!
  21. It is, but last time I had it it hung around for months til it went on ebay for about 15 quid!
  22. Bizarre choice of Thunderbirds episode I thought - "Perils of Penelope" is one of the dullest episodes of the lot, as is "The Duchess Assignment" which also featured Lady Penelope. Ooops sorry, wrong forum..
  23. Cheers, won't have any problems selling it I don't think, just don't want to over or under price it
  24. I remember we discussed this last year, can anyone remember what price we put on it cos I've got one coming and have no idea, I remember it used to be 100-125, still the same?
