  1. Is that the shop where Paul worked/used to work Derek?
  2. True, true
  3. Don't let me wind you up then
  4. Didn't know you were back, good to see you mate
  5. As always Mark, it's the beat...that regular 4/4 beat. Unlike yourself and others, I've never been able to appreciate the soulful nuances in the vocals that many of you do, I don't know whether thats down to lack of patience or never being able to find time to actually listen to the music properly. I tend to judge things in one listen. And I know I shouldn't.
  6. Also I meant to say - the house music that I've heard on here is way preferable to the stuff they call modern soul. I've never heard any played out loud so I can't give an opinion on that
  7. He was pretty good back then until he started playing modern...I never saw him at Wigan though, I'd stopped going by then. But he was always good at the Old Vic.
  8. I've got most of these - they are superb, for both soul and reggae and their various offshoots. By the way there is a massive article I wrote about Black Music and the history of Northern Soul in the 70's via it's pages, I know most have seen it already but if not, make yourself a cup of coffee and sit down for 20 minutes and have a trip back in time! https://www.raresoul.co.uk/wordpress/?page_id=7
  9. If he was playing in my back garden I'd draw the curtains
  10. Eloquently put I thought.
  11. I still don't believe you can create soul music using computers and especially electronic percussion. Motown records of the 60's had a heart and a soul, this music is just cold.

  13. The intro repeats twice on that one
  14. I had a right job selling a mint one a year or two ago, think I took 150 in the end
  15. One time the Showstoppers (apparently) played at Wigan Casino, for some reason, me and Gill went backstage to say hello, we both had terrible verbals and after 5 minutes these poor people realised that we weren't going to go away despite them signing autographs and constantly denying that they were the Four Perfections, after about 20 minutes we were asked to leave by representatives of the management, I often wonder what they thought of our perceptive questions such as "how do you get your hair like that"
  16. OK I'll close it for now, except its turned into a funny thread
  17. Good record that, "Zorro" by David Bowie
  18. I understand what you are saying about made to feel patronised by UK sellers/collectors. I get exactly the same when buying reggae and black guys look at me as if I'm from another planet and I've often been asked what I'm doing there looking at 'their' records
  19. Oh yeah, I never noticed that...only 12 posts to go
  20. Only reason I opened it was because I didn't see the relevance of bringing up something that happened many years ago (which I honestly don't remember and I can never remember arguing with Nina either) - I certainly don't everrememberhaving had a problem with you Eduard, in the early days of soul on the internet we used to do quite a lot of business I remember...so it was just a bit weird, though presumably because one starts having a pop at me, then everyone joins in. OK I'll close this before 9 o clock
  21. It all sounds the same to me
  22. Shall I close this topic?
  23. Can I have that back please?
  24. If someone types something and posts it anywhere, it's there for all the world to see. If Edu didn't want it to be read, he shouldn't have posted it. Not that I give a toss about something thats supposed to have happend almost 10 years ago. Funny that he didn't mention how much help I gave his girlfriend when she got ripped off by some Belgian. I even spoke to their police on her behalf.
  25. Who's Mark?
