  1. What utter rubbish. A badge to impress people? I'm proud of being part of that scene at the time but thats it. I remember Wigan as the best times I ever had in my entire life, whats wrong with remembering those times and saying that, for me, Wigan was the best venue ever. I've been to Blackpool, 100 Club, Stoke, loads more, nothing has ever come close, and if you think everyone should be travelling the country every weekend to support venues at our age, then I feel sorry for you not having anything else in your life except northern sodding soul. Speaking 30 years since I last went to Wigan, nothing will ever touch it or come close to it, for atmosphere, excitement, great people and brilliant music. What the hell is wrong with wanting to preserve that? (And don't give me a lecture about 'moving on', at least 50% of my favourite records are post Wigan so it's not like I've not heard anything since)
  2. OK then, I'll do a list, I'll mail it to anyone who expresses any interest first and then to the whole group later. Be tomorrow now though.
  3. Yeah thats what I was thinking Mark. I've never even heard of several of the artists: leon ware, cunnie williams, maysa leak, donell jones, najee, rasputin stash etc etc...though there's obviously a lot I do know: barbara randolph, curtis, etta james, david ruffin, tower of power, spinners, john edwards, delfonics, leroy hutson, and so on. 15 or so compilations, all sorts. At least on ebay, if you put the barcode number in it automatically does the artwork and track listring for you.
  4. Not as yet Chris but I will make a list for you cheers
  5. Just asking because I've got a big collection of cd's I have to sell (about 400) but it's mainly 70's soul, funk, rare groove, that sort of thing. Lots of Curtis Mayfield, Impressions too. Expansion label, stacks of Motown. Will either sell as a job lot at a quid apiece maybe or ebay them one at a time. Is it worth me doing a list, or are cd's dead and gone now?
  6. He could send it by registered airmail for $12 Mark. I think he is talking about priority airmail which costs more. When I get foreign bidders and the price is over £20, I make them pay £6 for signed for airmail, after I got done for a couple of hundred quid by paypal thieves.
  7. If anyone remembers, I put that and almost all of the program it came from (The Beat) up on youtube, 300 clips, and then they banned me and took the lot down because I used a Motown clip which their lawyers objected to. I can still do the full series of The Beat if anyone wants it.
  8. Thanks Jordi. Just found it in a box and it rang a bell.
  9. Is this worth anything???
  10. Cheers Tone, soon as I heard it I knew it wasn't what it said it was on the label...bloomin good instrumental too I thought. Two trombonists doing solos!
  11. I don't like Ken Boothe's version either. Honest truth is, there are very few Studio One records that I like compared to Treasure Isle's output over the same period. They all sound the same! And practically anything after 1969 I find unlistenable. Anyway I've got another question: I have a Busters All Stars record on ebay. OK this one has got me confused. The number is BB 11, which of course is very early circa 1961 and the A side is KEITH & ENID - SEND ME. So far so good. However, this one was issued in 1965. The B side is supposed to be TRENTON SPENCE - WE KNOW WE ARE IN LOVE yet this one is called WE'RE IN LOVE, an instrumental, and it sounds to me to be much later than 1961 and it sounds like THE SKATALITES to me. There's a sound clip on the ebay listings if anyone knows. https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=001
  12. OK I've had a look and I stand by ever one of those choices, and the Kenny Lynch record is still terrible...
  13. I promise I will have a look and report back mate but just for now, how rare is that Lloyd Charmers record I've got on ebay as a buy it now? I've never seen it before ("Time Is Getting Hard" blue Coxsone 7023) I put 75 on it but saw on popsike one went for £256!!
  14. Born A Loser was never released in the UK Tone so it doesn't qualify. Anyway, it'd never be in any worst lists that I do, I love it
  15. There was a film called Pennygold and I always wondered if this was from the soundtrack, in fact I think I watched it once just to see!
  16. He was certainly alive circa 2002 because he emailed me to put me right about something I'd said concerning him on Ian levine's ANS forum!
  17. Can't see the attraction myself, just a perfectly average late ska number, too fast to be classed as rocksteady in my opinion. It's from that transitional period between ska and rocksteady which I always call 'rude boy era'. Anyway back to the track - I wouldn't pay more than £20 for that
  18. I quite like Mistura - Life is a song worth singing
  19. I didn't put it in a list of pop tunes, just a list of what I considered to be the 50 worst northern records issued in the UK, of which this is one. Christ knows how I missed the Carstairs, probably didn't realise it got reissued by Inferno.
  20. Sarcasm aside, I would be interested to know what the redeeming qualities of the Keanya Collins record are. The vocals are weak, there's no beat and the lyrics are pathetic. The strings are nice, does that make it a classic or something?
  21. No, the two sound nothing like each other really, the original is actually not too bad. Kev Roberts just got someone in to do a vocal and called him John Drevars.
  22. Best thing to use is Pritt!
  23. Sorry Hammie, it WAS manufactured for the scene, the 1979 Destiny release is nothing to do with the 1968 MGM release except they used the name John Drevars (not even John Drevars Expression), it was recorded specifically to cash in on the fact they were playing the MGM version. So there. Keanya Collins is there because it's complete and utter sh*te
  24. I shouldn't be able to remember such trivia though Jerry, frightening really when I can't remember my own mobile phone number
  25. I think you'll enjoy it much more if you watch it again, if you have to just skip the music and you have a potted history of Northern Soul by most of the main players. I love it, seriously, and you know what I felt about it when it came out!
