There's only one definitive reference book that deals with Island albums - "The famous British collectable record labels: Island records 1962-1977" by Yuri Grishin. Never seen such an exhaustive and detailed history of a label and it's product. Interestingly, he does not have a label scan or cover photo of the Volume 1 you mention above, unless I'm missing it. He has scans of every other release on Island, Sue, Chrysalis etc. Volume 2 doesn't exist, neither does an Island number ILP 9093. Have a look at the detail though https://www.collectable-records.ru/book/island.htm

Again, another one that I never thought of as rare! White cover, has him in train drivers gear? I'm sure this must be regional, unless Action albums always sold well in Hastings.

Fantastic track
-
I had either a Vibrations or an Artistics album on UK Columbia...probably Vibrations. Never seen another one.
-
No interest in wither of these when I had them for sale 2 years ago and I just asked for offers over £10! May still have Soul Sixteen.
-
I may be way off with this but doesn't that LP include Mamie Galore - NO right to cry? sorry didn't realise this had already been said!
-
Cheeky sod I've never had or seen that LP Tony. I have had a couple of copies of the Fantastic Four one though. CSLFMB sounds fantastic in stereo
-
Four people now asked me how much I want for this - I haven't got a copy for sale - you are looking at a post dated 2006 when I advertised one for sale and it is showing up in 'related posts' on the current Ray Agee topic!
-
In case people didn't know or have forgotten, there is an entire section of Soul Source dedicated to jamaican music though it's hidden away and new posts don't show up - can we change that please? /Soul-Jamaica-f49.html especially have a look under the Jamaican R & B section

The Zodiacs could never be played, it's out and out ska - and it came out on Island. There's not that much soul on the actual Trojan label. Nice version of Make Me Yours by Phyllis Dillon springs to mind. But there are lots of soul tracks scattered around on the multitude of reggae labels. Jimmy James is quite rare on orange and white Trojan, most people think it's first release was the blue one.

I've got a UK black label Tamla Motown set - complete with the superb book it came with, all records in their proper inner sleeves - box is tatty though. If anyone wants it I'd be happy to sell it! Never been played in over 25 years.
-
Usually a pseudonym for label owner Don Robey, "Deadric Malone"...presumably bought the songs off the artists for a pittance and got all the publishing royalties. Bowie's version of I Pity The Fool is brilliant!
-
Having listened to this again, I think this might be an unreleased version - of which none were said to exist - because the guitar that can be heard all the way through just can't be heard on the single. Honestly, I've heard this track a thousand times and never heard the guitar before. I'll post up the 7" original, see if you agree with me.
-
Who in their right mind would pay 450 quid for a Major Lance record?
-
BIZARRE, WHEN YOU THINK I LISTED ONE AT SET SALE FOR £60 LAST YEAR AND IT DIDN'T SELL!
-
Steve says it was done using hospital laser technology! The vinyl remains unharmed...
-
Very very hard to find nowadays. No doubt I'll be flogging mine when the new baby turns up!
-
I can't remember the last time I saw a new compilation in our local HMV. Gone are the days when there were a couple of new Trojans every month
-
I've no problem with that, it's just that I feel life is for the living or something like that. And it always puzzles me how these old singers end up this way - surely they earned money in their careers but more importantly, surely they had friends in the business, many of whom must surely be able to afford the price of a gravestone!
-
I can't quite explain properly what I mean. I've nothing against appeals like this, quite the opposite, but the way I was thinking is that the man is long dead and nothing can be done to save him now - thats all. Not knocking it at all.
-
I'd sooner give any spare money I had to a childrens cancer research charity.
-
Malone? That was just a made up name to take the songwriter credits - it was a Bobby Bland song

Tone - I',m surprised that you didn't take this opportunity to mention that Ronnie Hilton did a cover of "The Laughing Gnome" on UK HMV!

This is a fantastic track, but I have to say that the version on that youtube clip doesn't do it justice, the mono single is way better, it's probably the same recording just a different mix. I've had this for years, since 1973 when it came out on a 4 track reissue EP, but also had it on Pye and Pye demo at the same time (I used to be a Bowie collector remember). Probably never been played because of the scarcity of it, I've certainly heard worse. Having said that - Can't Help Thinking About Me is even better than this.
