  1. I've only ever heard The Astronauts - Syncopate, which was featured on the original Trojan story but I don't know why...it's a weird guitar instrumental...think it may have also came out on Island.
  2. This is the thing with Jamaican records Chris, many of them have over 50 different versions, some over 100! I prefer the ones that have maybe one different take myself. For instance, I was amazed to find there was another track that uses the rhythm to The Whip (Ethiopians), been collecting the music for over 35 years and never knew it existed til last year (it's rubbish mind...Fatty by Bim & Bam)
  3. Yes, but only sketchy info from what I remember reading. Tony would probably be your best bet. I remember it was apparently run by a guy called Count Hala and he was from Guyana and I think the recordings were all done in the UK...thats all I know!
  4. No, but I have got a story about it, I probably had the first copy of this that was up for sale, about 15 years back, maybe more, anyway I went to Brighton one friday and in one of the record shops they had a downstairs part but the the lights were off and I asked the bloke if I could go have a look, he said ok, I only actually found 2 records in about 3 hours but one was the Maxine Brown EP which was as new, 10 quid, and the other was a record I've never even seen again, the vocal version of Paradox - Ring The Changes on black RCA, and I'm pretty sure that was the first copy if not found, certainly reviewed (by me, a few weeks later) p.s. I'd have thought about 75 for the EP
  5. Ian you are the first person I have come across in all my years on the scene that doesn't like this record. Makes no difference to me, just saying, everyone seems to like it. (I'd give it 10 out of 10 myself, and the other side isn't far off).
  6. You're right the, the demo bootleg is practically spot on but I think it has a dramatic dip towards the centre rather than a steady one. I had one a couple of years back and nobody could tell me if it was real or not. A very rare boot though.
  7. Blimey Rod, I wish you'd asked me, I thought you knew I collected these. I've got rid of around 50 in the last 2 weeks alone on ebay, starting price £5. I've still got a few left. But you'd have to lower your gradings expectations as you'll never get everything in mint or near mint. Plus the prices can be off-putting. Most expensive for me where the uniques - gypsy woman 150, derrick morgan - conquering ruler 125. Plus the majority of the 3000 series are very hard to find which is why I gave up trying to complete the collection. 8. Well I've got one that looks like that but it ain't a bootleg! You'll be alright if it's a US Warner demo.

  11. The Nate Evans & Mean Green could be bought in any Northern soul import shop in late 76, we thought it was a bootleg to be honest and I always used to sell it as such, but apparently it wasn't.
  12. It's not just that record, obviously, but as soon as people see a record selling for more than it should on auction, they seem to up the price. Now, I've just gone through over 100 really top quality originals for someone, I'm pricing up records like The Yum Yums which books at 800 quid on ABC dj, yet we all know thats because it sold at that price in auction - so I have priced it at 500 quid. Margaret mandolph, book price 500 quid because of auction, my price 325 quid. And so on and on...
  13. Last week a copy of Bobby Williams went for a ridiculous price of over £300 on JM's auction when we all know and have discussed the fact that it's only worth a maximum of £150. Today there is a set sale list with the same record listed at £350. So because of the price it attained in the auction, does this now mean that all copies are worth £350? Of course it doesn't. But it won't stop people listing it until £350 does actually become the recognised price. You might as well all use your price guides as door stops.
  14. Yeah, tap water - but I haven't seen Aldi doing these for a while mate, no doubt you can get one off ebay
  15. They get them in now and again but not seen for about a year - was only 15 quid. This is the thing I'm on about https://www.bestultrasonic.com/
  16. This one is not the one I had so there must be three of these, the one I had had those like pink coconut round things with licorice in the middle on the cover. Theres at least 6 volumes of the Backtrack series, I've got 3 or 4 of them, my favourite isn't the soul one but the one with Andy Ellison - Been a long time and Johns Children - Desdemona.
  17. The announcement just popped up while I was in My Ebay
  18. Thing is - the songs are all amusing - but they can't half sing
  19. Basically, all feedback has now been totted up, not just individual ones, so mine has jumped from 3500 to almost 600. But they have now bought in the rule where SELLERS cannot leave neutral or negative feedback for buyers! WHAT THE F*CK????
  20. You might get a surprise - Bloomin well did!
  21. You will get panned for this post because that is the nature of today's soulies, you go against the grain, you get a pasting mate. But I agree with you 100%.
  22. I've got one of these Moth cleaning machines and it's very good for albums, works on the same principal as the VPI using a vacuum method. Having said that, to clean singles, I just put them on the deck, spray them with a mix of 75% isopropol alcohol 25% water, rub it in, play the record while it's still wet, dry it with a tissue - and that's equally as good as a cleaning machine. I would have though a splash of vinigar might help too as that seems to clean anything. When I get records which have dirt grained in, I use that small electro magnetic jewellery cleaning machine I got from aldi - you rotate the disc in a small water filled bath (small meaning about 3" deep) and an electro magnetic or electro static charge goes through the water and you can actually see dirt coming out of the grooves. Finally, do not attempt to wash your records in a dishwasher. I know someone who did, with tragic results.
