  1. Mel, Tommy Neal doesn't do a vocal to Frantic Escape. In fact there isn't a vocal to Frantic Escape.
  2. I didn't know what I was meant to be looking at to be honest!
  3. Riveting that was
  4. Yeah I did actually. This track is possibly the worst thing I've ever heard.
  5. Never said it started at Wigan, I just said I remember it's first play at Wigan..
  6. First track is that godawful Temprees - At Last, then another instrumental I've never heard before, then this appalling one I mentioned (it's not Serenade - Sounds of lane aka s.soussan is it?), after that: terrible male version of Black Is Black, not the hit version yet another unknown instrumental tape then cuts, quality drastically decreases, crackin up over you elijah rockin with soul the joker (with vibes) the belles - let me do it ollie jackson - day my heart stood still nooney rickett - tomorrow is another day something that sounds like a cat being strangled (appears to be a version of Runaway) send him back sorry can't take any more
  7. I just binned it to be honest Mark, hold on a minute and I'll retrieve it!
  8. You're getting mixed up mate, there were no prices on them, and if there were, the highest would have been £15 for Lester Tipton. I wrote it in 1992. If there were any prices it would have been for the relevant US originals nnot the Grapevine singles. Like I said - I wrote the article for them.
  9. Just heard this on a Wigan tape from 75. The beginning is a lot like the start of LJ Johnson - Your magic put a spell on me - loads of electronic noises and whistle effects - then it goes on into a mindless instrumental a bit similar in parts to "Tequila". It's worse than Scratchy and thats saying something.
  10. I've had one - British you mean obviously
  11. "Gooble Goble, Gooble Goble, One of us! One of us!" anyone?
  12. Roland Alphonso - VC 10 (shake a lady) / Larry Marshall - Snake in the grass - Doctor Bird DB 1008. Lovely copy, EX-, no centre. £100. sound clip here
  13. No Pat's price is about right. Bit more than the £5 Pep gave me for my copy in the mid 80's
  14. I said no for exactly a year then gave in to temptation, wish I hadn't though, that first year was the best ever. That particular night nobody could get anything so it was about 3 o clock when that conversation took place and by then I wasn't interested anyway.
  15. Thats completely untrue seeing as I actually wrote that article! It's reprinted in various places on the net and still up on my website here https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/?page_id=10
  16. The way I look at it, it didn't cost me much, I don't like it, if it's been on your wants list for ages then you might as well have it. Buy me a cyber-pint, it's in the post today
  17. It's actually 3rd time Tone, I've got a daughter 19 this year - not seen her for 6 years now due to her mother - thats why I left Hastings to move back here
  18. I was only joking mate. When's your birthday, you can have it as a present
  19. It's a mash up - an original Studio One backing track (think it's Don't Know Why by delroy Wilson) with a totally new vocal placed over the top. There's also studio one versions of trac ks by Sam Cooke and Elvis Presley amongst others
  20. What was it, a demo? 70-80 quid.
  21. We could get into some good debating here but I've got - not on vinyl - every record on Bamboo and I honestly can't think of one decent release on the entire label. Same with the Banana label. I don't really like Studio One stuff much anyway but the Bamboo label, to me, is awful.
  22. Dunno, I remember it getting it's first ever spins at Wigan and it didn't quite do it for me.
  23. Don't like it, never liked it, it's just lacking in something...a decent song I think. Backing track is great though.
  24. More than you can afford young man you've got a young child to provide for
  25. I told him that earlier. The white one on the left, bootleg, meaning the white one on the right, original.
