  1. If you think about it though, the Torch lp was 72/73 and Elton was 'famous' from 1970 onwards so there's no way he'd have been playing at the Torch in 73. I bet he did in the mid 60's though, his band backed loads of blues and soul artists when they came over.
  2. People have been buying that shit for 40 years though - I've got at least 400 of them - they're part of growing up on the scene, we wouldn't have had those records to play at the youth club etc back in the 70's if they hadn't been available for a quid from the local record shop. Not really talking about these modern day ones.
  3. Anyone paying that much for a pressing - well, good luck to them.
  4. Such a brilliant record that Alone Again Or. I have tried so many times to listen to Forever Changes but I still can't get it into it.
  5. Me and Grace watched Mary Poppins a couple of weeks ago when she was poorly. How bad is Dick Van Dyke, I know it's a long running joke but someone should have dubbed his voice. Also it seems about 30 minutes too long. This was the first film I ever saw at the pictures, 1964, Weston Super Mare.
  6. Stay tuned, this Tony Blackburn show should be great, all old records which never made the top 40...Lovin Spoonful Do You Believe In Magic...
  7. Well normally at this time of day I'd be listening to Jeremy Vine so this is a nice change for me...I'm sure we could have all predicted some of the track listing...not Private Number though
  8. I'd faint if she did!
  9. Some records didn't sell many copies for a reason. This is one of them.
  10. You are right Jona, whats the point in complaining about it, people would moan if there was none on, people will moan if there's too much on. Just let her get on with it and try and enjoy some of the music, it's not exactly a life or death scenario, it's just some lady playing some Northern tracks.
  11. Ian Levine remake of The Right Track. Makes a change I guess.
  12. That's lovely, thanks Mick. Vocal isn't as good as Gloria Jones but the arrangement is brilliant.
  13. Yeah that was a poor alternate version of Lorraine Chandler. Poor in comparison with the one we know I mean.
  14. Milton Wright eh? HI PETE-I NOTICED THAT J MANSHIP IS AUCTIONING A MILTON WRIGHT-I BELONG TO YOU ON SATIRON.THIS WAS A SOUL BOWL RECORD THAT WE MANUFACTURED FROM THE ORIGINAL RECORDING TAPES–IT WAS SUPPOSED TO COME OUT ON CARLA BUT OLLIE THEN DECIDED TO ISSUE THE INSTRUMENTALS INSTEAD –OLLIE AND I USED TO GO TO BREAKFAST EVERY MORNING WHEN I WAS IN DETROIT AND IT CAME UP IN CONVERSATION THAT HE STILL HAD THE TAPES TO THE ORIGINAL VERSION-SO WE PRESSED 300 COPIES WHICH SOLD OUT WITHIN A FEW DAYS.JOHN
  15. I bet you won't mate, the selection on there is shocking, I check it every day for new additions and apart from the latest repros, I got a Techniques on Duke for £40 which is about half what the others on there charge, they have like Good Minus things for mint prices and when there is something decent, it's double what it should cost...worse than ebay in that respect
  16. After seeing their outfits, you can't blame him
  17. Special Radio Two announcement just been on "Well we were going to have Sharleen Spiteri of the band Texas present this show but as she doesn't know enough about records, apparently, we have a special guest Dj Harold Cubbins from Todmorden Labour Club Soul Nights, he knows everyhting about Northern Soul" Listening figures drop from 10 million to 17 and that includes Harold's family...
  18. Correct mate, several 1977 'first spins' in there

    wigan casino 1974

    That's from 1977 / 78
  20. Well if I can blow my own trumpet I've got about 1500 Northern / Soul records on Discogs for sale, all ridiculously cheap, half original half reissue... or I'll always swap for reggae :-) https://www.discogs.com/seller/pete.smith/profile
  21. Jordan said he thinks it's actually by someone called Barbara Wilson and not Gloria Jones
  22. Nobody would be objecting to you playing it if it was a £10 record. People often don't understand that mere mortals cannot afford to pay three weeks wages for a record that they could buy for a fiver, and don't give me that copyright and robbing the artists stuff, how much money do the Hamilton Movement receive from each £1000+ sale of their record? Er, nothing...same as they don't get anything from the £5 bootleg either.
  23. They were obviously just pressing anything with no questions asked, not on behalf of record labels, on behalf of certain individuals - 90% of Monarch Northern stuff from the 70's is bootleg material
