No but it wasn't though - it was just a bog standard release, I remember it being played on the radio when it came out in 1970 or 1971 - it wasn't until the 90's that it started getting played on the Northern scene, I remember thinking - why???

John Manship Auction Results 31 - 12 - 2014
Pete S replied to JOE TORQUAY's topic in Look At Your Box
John would have paid Ollie McLaughlin for use of the tapes - at that time he must have owned them, so when did Milton become owner? -
Can anyone tell me a price for this please, I have one for sale - cheers
-
Tempests is a pressing but Martha reeves was a legit UK release so is a UK original
-
£20 to £30 for that counterfeit copy is right.
-
I think I agree with you Mike. Correct name for an illegal copy of a ptreviously released 45 is a pirate copy.
-
Great book mate, unbelievable really, they were still staying in crappy b & b's and driving an old Ford Transit while making Closer - they literally had no money, Rob Gretton gave them like £9 each per week. Very very good read.
-
Beautiful record throughout!
-
Well I wouldn't say I hate it, I just don't think it's fantastic, I can see why lots of the older guys like it, because it was quite different to most around when first discovered
-
Not that I'm a fan by any means, but Elton John didn't write the lyrics to ANY of his songs - only the music
-
Maybe he doesn't - I do though - and thats definitely a moulded label boot
-
Peter Hook was saying he scrapped as many of these when he got them back from the pressing plant because the quality was so bad then they paid for it to be reissued on 12". I know I said that above, but I'm just trying to make it more understandable :-)
-
First counterfeit of this was way back, 1981, I've still got the sleeve but no record (though they changed it slightly to The Ideal beginning) Nobody really wants the EP though because it's such terrible quality, it's the 12" that people want, it was remastered.
-
Good call, best part of that mess is the run off groove. In my opinion :-)
-
Here's most if it Robb - definitely same backing track - I just had it as 'unknown artist' - Ian Levine told me it was by Blinky 29 Till The End Of Time.mp3 I would say this is definitely one of the best intros I've ever heard
-
Makes the world go round I just listen to the backing track of that record and think, these guys are trying to invent Northern Soul, forget the vocals for a bit and concentrate on the backing track, probably not even Ray Merrell singing on it
-
Blimey - maybe it's Nigerian then?? I had a NIgerian Trojan 45 once
-
It's because there are no originals of this on vinyl - they look the part but all originals are styrene
-
Nooooooooo!!!! Fantastic record first note til last....
-
Robb I have a version of this by Blinky as well using the same backing but it sounds much more powerful, like a herd of stampeding rhinos
-
He's being unfair, all they did was nick the riff from NF Porter, they also paid for the master tapes of these demos never to be released according to Peter Hook's book which I'm reading just now
-
Yes my friend, exactly what I said ages ago back, you'd have a box of pressings and you knew exactly what they were, no over complications - they were not originals
