  1. I never said it was anything special, but when you've been playing a hundred or so crap 70's records and you find a couple of uptempo/danceable ones, it's a eureka moment!
  2. Incredibly that came out 3 times on UK labels, on Success, Doctor Bird and Punch, each one had a different flip side.
  3. The Jamaican blank should indeed have a Val Bennet cut on the B side - High Tide which if I remember rightly is a great instrumental. This is a Bunny Lee production but I don't know if he produced Pussy Price. The matrix should be DYNA-BL 815 but I've also seen it listed as R-3009). But it gets a bit confusing because another version, produced by Roy Shirley, was released in Jamaica in 1969 (dyna RS 840). This has Give Me Back Me Dallar on the B side.
  4. Absolutely true. Seats were quite high up and the pool was massive. Must have gone there 20 or 30 times, never went near a drop of water though
  5. The Northern Soul scene was totally different to anything else which is why a lot of us got into it in the first place - different from mainstream soul, funk, disco - it was NORTHERN SOUL - and thats how it should have remained in my opinion. You don't go to a Northern Soul do and expect to hear funk.
  6. THREE PIECES - I NEED YOU GIRL - FANTASY 116 (1975) This is quite a nice dancer too. (Whats happening to me!)
  7. THE REALISTICS - THE MAGIC THAT YOU DO / LOVE VIBRATIONS - EPIC 5439 Just going through a box of crap and found this - then nearly had a heart attack when I saw it was £75 on JM's site. Is there a demand for this or something?
  8. I've been thinking about this and realised there are loads of funky northern records that I used to like, well still do actually, from Summer In The Parks to Boogie With Your Baby, used to be good for a good old fast shuffle. Two of my favourite cd compilations are The Cleethorpes Story and the Blackpool Mecca Story. Seriously.
  9. Yes, a scene somewhere near the bottom of a f*cking great dustbin
  10. Well my favourite Jackie Wilson songs are Haunted House and I Don't Want To Lose You.
  11. Is this thread saying there is no better male singer than Jackie Wilson? Chuck Jackson and Levi Stubbs for a start.
  12. Yes we'll call it "Ask Pete"
  13. Yes - well no - but I'm familiar with the label, it's based in the USA and represses all kinds of Jamaican things. Wonder why the shortened the title (from Pussy Price)
  14. No thats a standard Island label. B side is actually by Reids Group. Fantastic double sider but only worth a tenner as it was a huge seller.
  15. Well only he can do that, but thats how it reads to me I'm afraid, unless there are a whole heap of people who are part of the recording industry on here
  16. I've never played a bad record....
  17. I didn't think Darrow Fletcher had been booted, especially as a white demo. A Bell Sound stamp is just that, the words Bell Sound in script lettering in the run off groove.
  18. Say what you like about that Belmonts record but it's got one of the most brilliant intros you'll ever hear!
  19. It's Little Eva - Making With The Magilla. (Magilla The Gorilla was a cartoon character wasn't he?)
  20. Lovely that is. If nobody bids I'll give you 50 quid for it...
  21. I did, but the post you quoted from me was from June 2006!
  22. Worst record ever played by Sam - in the 70's anyway - has to be Heartbeat by Bill Pursell
  23. Prefer Sergio Mendes myself - memories of buying the LP with it on from our newsagents for 99p and selling it the same night at Wigan for £3 - big profit back then!
  24. Great price...wish I had the money!
