Presenting a decade’s and a half's worth of Jamaican sounds, from the 1961 proto-Ska of Derrick & Patsy to the early 70’s DJ style of Dennis Alcapone and Tony King…I also found a Shocks Of Mighty version by Sir Collins which I’d never even heard of before so I included that — with all manner of Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae inbetween, plus a recent release, and a nice medley from Desmond Dekker to end with. Nearly everything here is first time on podcast for me, there are a couple from the one I did at New year but they fit in well with this one so I used them again. All taken from vinyl and mixed live so one or two will have good old surface noise… DERRICK & PATSY — FEEL SO FINE ROLAND ALPHONSO — THE PRESIDENT THE SKATALITES — TWO FOR ONE RITA MARLEY & THE SOULETTES — ONE MORE CHANCE BUSTERS ALL STARS — VERA CRUZ (ALT) LEE KING PERRY — FEEL LIKE JUMPING BUSTERS ALL STARS — LION OF JUDAH NORMA FRAZER — EVERYBODY LOVES A LOVER BUSTERS ALL STARS — CAST YOUR FATE TO THE WIND TOMMY McCOOK — WINDFALL THE BASSIES — CHECKING OUT ROLAND ALPHONSO — ROLLIE POLLIE THE PROGRESSIONS — FAIR DEAL BOBBY AITKEN — SWEETS FOR MY SWEET DERRICK MORGAN — SOFT HAND GLEN & LLOYD — RUDIES GIVE UP HUGH GODFREY — MAD WORLD THE INVADERS — SOULFUL MUSIC KEN BOOTHE — HOME HOME HOME DENNIS ALCAPONE — HOME VERSION THE LYRICS — A GET IT ROLAND ALPHONSO — WOMEN OF THE WORLD SLIM SMITH — LONELY LOVER SOUL VENDORS — MUSICAL HAPPINESS THE TECHNIQUES — I’M IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE LARRY & ALVIN — YOU’RE CHEATING HEART DILLINGER — JOHN DEVOUR LESTER STERLING — REGGAE IN THE WIND THE PIONEERS — GIVE ME LITTLE LOVING THE BELTONES — FEEL ALRIGHT KEN BOOTHE — BE YOURSELF THE HIPPY BOYS — THE HIPPYS ARE HERE RUDY MILLS — JOHN JONES THEO BECKFORD — EASY SNAPPIN’ 68 THE TECHNIQUES — THERE COMES A TIME THE UPSETTERS — CANE RIVER ROCK JUSTIN HINDS & THE DOMINOES — YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THE MARVELLS — FIGHT A BROKE SIR COLLINS — WE A COME DREAD RUPIE EDWARDS ALL STARS — FULL MOON THE VIBRATORS — GO BACK TONY KING — SPEAK NO EVIL TOMMY McCOOK — BLACK POWER KINGSLEY WRAY & SKYCREW — IKALINDA JOHN HOLT — ALI BABA KEITH HUDSON (DENNIS ALCAPONE) — SPANISH AMIGO DENNIS ALCAPONE — ROCK THEM CAPONE DENNIS ALCAPONE — RIPE CHERRY DENNIS ALCAPONE — ALCAPONE GUNS DON’T BARK AUGUSTUS PABLO — TOO LATE DESMOND DEKKER — LIVE AND LEARN https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/musical-happiness-fifteen-years-of-ska-rocksteady-reggae/

Pete S replied to Pete S's topic in Record Sales
Yeah, Tommy Tucker should of course be Jimmy Ricks, alphabetically it was in the right place but I had the Tommy Tucker version on my mind so made a cock up -
pete.smith@freeuk.com 01902 326306 HI, HERE’S ANOTHER LIST OF NICE ORIGINALS, AS ALWAYS THESE HAVE BEEN PLAY GRADED, FOR THOSE WHO STILL CAN’T GET A HANDLE ON THIS — IF I SAY THAT THE RECORD LOOKS VERY GOOD BUT ACTUALLY PLAYS MINT — THEN IT DOES! IT WILL BE PRICED ACCORDINGLY — NOT AS A MINT RECORD BUT AS SOMEWHERE INBETWEEN VG AND MINT. A RECORD CAN LOOK LIKE IT CAME OUT OF A SKIP AND STILL PLAY SUPERBLY. I SHOULD KNOW, MOST OF MY COLLECTION LOOKS LIKE THAT… LABELS ARE CLEAN UNLESS STATED. ONLY THE A SIDE (THE NORTHERN SIDE) IS GRADED ALL ARE USA ORIGINALS THE APOLLAS — YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT — LOMA DEMO VG++ 25 Little crackle before it starts otherwise fine ANITA BRYANT — MY MIND’S PLAYING TRIVKS ON ME AGAIN — COLUMBIA DEMO EX+ 30 SOLD Stunning beat ballad — bargain BOBBY DAY — PRETTY LITTLE GIRL NEXT DOOR — RCA VG+/EX 125 Just a little very minor background noise at start BIG MAYBELLE — YESTERDAY’S KISSES — SCEPTER VG+/EX 30 Same comments as above — fantastic version BARBARA MASON — AIN’T GOT NOBODY — ARCTIC EX 30 One mark on the vinyl not affecting play THE CHELL-MARS — ROAMIN’ HEART — JAMIE DEMO VG+/EX- 30 One or two light background pops CHUCK BERNARD — SEND FOR ME — ST. LAWRENCE EX- 25 Two X’s on label CAROLYN CRAWFORD — WHEN SOMEONE’S GOOD TO YOU — MOTOWN EX- 40 Brilliant, like all her Motown 45’s…drill hole in label, record plays NM THE DEL-CORDS — JUST A LITTLE MISUNDERSTANDING — UP EX 25 Good blue eyed version THE EMBERS — IT AIN’T NECESSARY / AIN’T NO BIG THING — BELL EX 40 Both sides have some minor scuffs but play absolutely fine THE FANTASTICS — ME AND YOU — SOUND STAGE 7 DEMO EX- 150 Minor crackle right on the intro otherwise plays great, a little ring wear to raised part of label GIGI & THE CHARMAINES — POOR UNFORTUNATE ME — COLUMBIA DEMO EX- 25 Couple of marks but plays as new throughout HONEY & THE BEES — WHY DO YOU HURT THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU — ARCTIC VG++ 50 A little crackle on intro, some ringwear to label THE INTRIGUES — IN A MOMENT — BULLET VG+ 30 This is the very rare local Philly release — one or two pops but better than most copies that turn up JANET & THE JAYS — LOVE WHAT YOU’RE DOING TO ME — HI DEMO EX- 20 Nice dancer JIMMY RICKS — OH WHAT A FEELING — FESTIVAL VG++ 150 SOLD Now this one doesn’t have any scratches but it does have background noise, presumably from playing with a heavy tone arm. Vinyl copy, multicoloured demo. Turn the treble down and it sounds great…but am listing it at half the price of an EX one KIM WESTON — A THRILL A MOMENT — GORDY EX 70 Nice copy. Drill hole in label. LANDY McNEAL — COUNTING ON YOU BABY — COLUMBIA DEMO VG+/EX 25 Bit of an odd one, makes a noise for the first 10 seconds but I can’t see anything wrong with it — fine as soon as vocals come in — has the good B side too, Stand Up And Be Counted, VG++ LOU JOHNSON — UNSATISFIED — BIG TOP EX- 20 One or two non sounding marks, plays perfectly PAULETTE & THE CUPIDS — HE’LL WAIT ON ME — PRISM DEMO EX 75 Rare girl group dancer from Chicago. Small writing on label (circle around centre hole) THE ROYAL PREMIERS — WHO AM I WITHOUT YOUR LOVE — TOY DEMO EX 30 Nice doo-wop style dancer, and rare on a white demo THE STAGEMASTERS — BABY I’M HERE JUST TO LOVE YOU — SLIDE VG++ 15 White and blue original with Chips promo sticker, plays absolutely perfect SANDY WYNNS — THE TOUCH OF VENUS — CHAMPION EX- 50 East Coast original, vinyl copy, plays NM SANDY WYNNS — LOVE BELONGS TO EVERYONE — CHAMPION DEMO VG++/EX 30 West Coast demo — one or two very minor background pops SIDNEY BARNES — YOU’LL ALWAYS BE IN STYLE — RED BIRD DEMO EX- 175 SOLD Couple of tiny marks cause the faintest of background pops at the start, otherwise, beautiful THE SPELLBINDERS — CHAIN REACTION — COLUMBIA M- 25 All time classic TONY MIDDLETON — MY HOME TOWN — ALFA DEMO VG+/EX 25 A little crackle on the intro — tough white demo TONY AMARO & THE CHARIOTS — HEY BABY / RUNNIN’ AROUND — LOMA DEMO EX 40 Two uptempo dancers, light paper scuffs THE TRUE TONES — HE’S GOT THE NERVE — JOSIE EX 30 Great underrated oldie TOJO — BROKEN HEARTED LOVER — TEC EX 30 100 mph Wigan dancer THE VOLCANOS — A LADY’S MAN / HELP WANTED — ARCTIC EX 35 Light blue label, blue text original — two monsters THE VOLCANOS — HELP WANTED — ARCTIC VG++ 20 First issue of this track Arctic 111 THE VOLCANOS — STORM WARNING — ARCTIC EX 20 Such a great record. What, we now have to do a background check to see what colour the singer is? -

Nobody is playing the Bill Oddie record, it's just a nice record to listen to -
I don't think there's such thing as a stupid price for this, I sold a VG one last year for £1200, I don't even know when the last original came up for sale before that one
-
Once again. Not everybody is, or wants to be, a DJ. Some people just like to play records at home. That's why they don't give a toss about what label it's on. I personally make a living from selling Northern Soul originals in the main, but I can't afford to keep them, so I get a reissue of the same track and play it to myself until my heart is content. I don't want a cd, I don't want an mp3, I want a record which I can play.

I must have thought he said it when being interviewed in Ian Levine's film. I was obviously not paying attention.
-
There's another NS rumour down the pan then :-)
-
I'm sure you would, I'm just talking about the price of tickets. What next, £100 to see Tommy Hunt?

Fantastic record that Al Matthews..

Finally Dug 'the Box' Out Of The Attic...not Opened Since 1981

Kate Bush hadn't toured since 1979 so I can understand why people would want to go and see her. She also writes all her own songs and is multi-talented... Gladys Knight is an old soul singer..

Is Bobby Angelle same person as Bobby Garrett or Earl Nelson

Joe Matthews " Ain't Nothing You Can Do" Kool Kat
Pete S replied to Stockholmsoulfox's topic in Record Wants
Demo is rarer than the issue on this one -
Someone made that and then sold it for £122? I'm in the wrong business.
-
Looking for Garnet Mimms? He's usually Looking For You! sorry
-
Well he's using old reissues so they're going to have the old reissue information in the run off...
-
Was going from Christmas 1966 until 2003 mate - they upped the season ticket price by £100 and didn't sign anyone, we were relegated, I said that's enough for me and I haven't been since - will always support them but I won't go again - unless they bring back standing and hooliganism
-
I can understand people wanting to own a lookalike - but really, paying more than a fiver for a photocopied label is just crazy
-
There is an "official" reissue of this on the Goldmine Sevens label oops sorry John didn't see your reply
