  1. Leigh I am sitting here waiting for the Wolves match to come on and I haven't got anything else to do apart from contemplate going to KFC so apaologies if I join in this topic too often!
  2. Rubbish 35 years ago and still rubbish...
  3. Probably the Chosen Few or The Devonnes. You're making the point but missing it at the same time. Why do you think these classic oldies nights do so well? It's because that's what the majority of people want to hear - they want to hear records that remind them of when they were young and are not interested in hearing newies and unknowns. That's a fact, it's not an opinion. I went to one of these so called Northern Soul & Motown do's that they hold in our village every 3 months, it was rammed, and it was terrible, I've never been since because I personally do not want to hear Do I Love You and The Night, however, the other 300 people in there really did want to hear them. And who am I to slag them off?
  4. That's because 40 years ago £5 was worth £100 now.
  5. I'm bored with this now, it just goes round in circles. Live and let live.
  6. It won't be cd's at all because very few places have the facilities or want the facilities to play them. And very few people want to play them anyway, it's a vinyl based scene. Me, I'd use a laptop with 30,00 songs on it.
  7. What if someone put a full colour absolutely perfect photocopy of an original over the top of a Stardust pressing to make it look like an original, and nobody could tell even if looking over the decks. I ask you once again, what difference does it make to the sound thats coming out of the speakers? It seems the only thing that a lot of you want is for the dj's playing these records to go to confessional and pray for forgiveness for playing reissues. Get over it, it's supposed to be about having fun and enjoying music.
  8. With some crazy people paying £100 for a pressing of the Yum Yums, it doesn't seem to matter if it's real or not!
  9. But if someone asks for it, you know the dj isn't going to have the original anyway, there's only about 5 copies of it, so it's a case of play the pressing and satisfy your customer i.e. the bloke who paid to get in, or don't play it and it'll never get heard anywhere. Though in the case of The Inticers, that's not actually a bad thing.
  10. I know there are hundreds, thousands of them - but they are not going to fill dancefloors. It's bedroom listening material. If they were floorfillers they wouldn't have stayed at £5, and if they are only £5 it means they are probably very common and outside the 'rare northern soul' category. p.s. how did you know I'd gone deaf?
  11. Says the voice of experience. Yes lets all play £5 crap that nobodys interested in, but thats ok, it's on an original label. Oh hang on, what about this forgotten oldie, I tell you why it's forgotten, because it's f&cking shit that's why.
  12. How? THEY SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME. I can't ever remember going home from a venue and saying "Well that was a great night but it was ruined for me when somebody played a reissue, completely bought the night down and ruined the evening, damn those reissues"
  13. Yes, definitely. But at the local working mens club I don't think it makes any difference, people are just after a night out listening to music.
  14. That's what I meant also it IS actually whats in the grooves that count. The bottom line to all this is - local soul do's, play off anything, upfront events, play originals. Simple.
  15. The first part is correct - the second metaphor doesn't make any sense whatsoever, and it's not like you to swear
  16. I used to, many years ago, but now I couldn't give a fig either. If you aren't looking over the decks you just cannot know if it's an original. a pressing or a cd.

  18. He doesn't look much like a recording artist does he?
  19. I'm losing track of what this topic is about, I thought it was about pop records that sounded like Northern records? But before you give me a gobful, this track is in my all time top 10 records, bought it when it came out and still play it regularly. It's FANTASTIC. Just can't see the Northern connection
  20. One of those records which nobody was interested in when I had it for sale on a spanking new WD, couldn't believe it, think I sold it to JM in the end - was about 18 months back. £100 plus.
  21. Sexy Sugar Plum was absolutely huge on import and nobody could get a copy, when the first imports came in they were on vinyl and everyone thought they were bootlegs!
  22. I agree with Bri - £100 - £125 set sale, more in auction probably
  23. Where? You sure you don't mean played by Dave Evison?
  24. See link above...
  25. Isaac Hayes was way earlier wasn't it, 75-76?
