Thats the one Mike.

Dave - the Johnny Ross bootleg actually says "licensed to soul galore" on the label
-
Nor me - It's horrible! There's another version of The Drifter, Mick Smith's got it, it is if I remember correctly, an Emidisc acetate of an unissued Polydor recording by a male vocalist - obviously British but not bad at all. That's a one off. Also best to avoid "The Drifter" by kenny Lynch as it's a different song altogether.
-
Even so, I got all the recent Actions for the equivalent of £2 each so no great loss - plus I honestly believe there's only one rare one on the label - Eddie Holman - but even that should only be £75 tops

Now I'm not joking - the winner could have had that off me for £40. Not now, because someone already rang this morning and asked if I'd got it (me not knowing why) but £40 is all it's worth.

Details for Rare Ska - Don Drummond Requiem Jamaican Radio Broadcast 1969 This comes from a cassette recording of a radio show that was originally aired by Radio Jamaica Rediffusion (RJR) Broadcasting company in 1969, following death of Don Drummond. The program was hosted by Dermott Hussey, with contributions from Prince Buster, Coxsone Dodd, Tommy McCook, and others who knew Don. The host and guests reminisce about Don Drummond while playing some of his music. A bit of history and a rare item for fans of classic Jamaican music... Enjoy, & check my other torrents for more rare Jamaican music. Just about to download it - anyone wants a copy let me know - thats if the quality's any good

Ok give this bloke £50,000 and he will give you 5 records but won't tell you what they are https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Very-rare-discs-Beat...%3A1|240%3A1318

The Richard Burton film?
-
The Jean Carter master has a pressing fault I think - the originals all sound murky at the start too. Didn't notice Joey Heatherton was bad though.
-
Just pressed in different parts of the USA thats all
-
The UK MCA's you mentioned were released directly to appeal to the Northern scene, albeit a little bit late, though they did release Lee Roye while it was just about still being played. They also put out things like Sons Of Moses and Lada Edmund Jr. Unfortunately 3 or 4 big titles had already been put out on US MCA (Jean Carter, Earl Grant, Lee Roye for a start) so the UK stuff was considered second best. But someone at UK MCA knew what they were doing alright. None of them are boots.
-
I'm not sure about that Benji, I've never heard that it was withdrawn - not saying it wasn't, just that I've not heard of that theory. It's certainly the scarcest of his UA singles though. I think Let Him Go was reissued in 67 or 68. Definitely weird that he covered both sides of Ray's record though.
-
Very interesting Gareth, cheers for that. Those guys were also responsible fro the likes of "Determination" and "Tell her" for Dean Parrish, in fact they may have owned the Boom label. I think.

The 100 Club was 2 days before the weekend appearance at Yarmouth Mike. I've got both those shows on video somewhere.
-
What, not even from me? Mike I get this all the time because I don't like The Carstairs - I've even had abusive PM's just for not liking the Carstairs I love The Drifter, I think it's an exceptional record - but if other people don't, I can't force them to like it, and it makes no difference to me whether they like it or not. p.s. Mischief, trust me on this, the Long John Baldry version is actually rarer than the Ray Pollard version, nowhere near as good but very, very hard to find. I've had 4 Pollard issues and one demo over the years, just the one Baldry issue.

Dream Merchants - Stop Your Breaking My Heart , Different Mixes
Pete S replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
Still do - don't think anyone spotted it except yourself! -
Well I did already mention it and say what I thought earlier on in the thread but obviously no one read it...
-
Must have been post-op then
-
I've heard it. Because Ian played it me down the phone. Apart from that, never heard of the record or the artist.
-
I would have done if I'd got the $125! Male female duet, beat ballad, big chorus - really good, honest.
-
Seriously now, I actually have heard some of Ian's unknowns - well ARE they unknowns? Who knows for definite - but I hadn't heard of any of them that he played. 6 records. All were Northern. One I didn't like, I won't say it was rubbish but it was average. The remainder were just as he said, good uptempo Northern except for one brilliant midtempo which I found on Craig Moerer and therefore it obviously isn't unknown, especially at $125. So he's obviously got the records but how can he play you anything without having the piss taken out of him when someone immediately finds one and says it's not an unknown?
