Calling Any Detroit Experts
Anyone think the backing track is similar to Karate Boogaloo?

Calling Any Detroit Experts
I honestly loved it first time I heard it and my actual bid was double what I got it for - it sounds really brilliant through my speakers (sounds very tinny on my other computer. It's definitely Mike Terry, I'd bet every record I've got on it.

It's still a dodgy label...

Sitting In The Park - Billy Stewart Or Georgie Fame
That makes it sound like I was just being facetious for the sake of it when I said I prefered GF's version - why CAN'T I prefer that version or is at against soul police rules? And note I'm not the only one saying it..

Len Barry Lp
The thing is - yes, there may be only 3 test presses but they must have done a full run of finished stock copies, so they've either all been dumped or they are still waiting to be found.

I actually liked the vocal as well, I'm just thinking of it from the point of what it would sound like out loud, not on my pc or my stereo...I wouldn't pay out for sommat like that usually but it's got some big potential. I compared it to Nothing Sweeter Than Love's B side and I think it's him. Anyway I just got offered almost 2 months rent money for it so it wasn't money wasted

How Dodgy Is This?
One of the most blatant fakes I've ever seen - Mick Smith told me he asked the seller if it was an original and the seller said it had only ever been bootlegged on the Contact label - which I presume this is, with another label stuck on top https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280357258792&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:GB:1123#ebayphotohosting

Calling Any Detroit Experts
I bought quite an expensive acetate on ebay last night, it was wrongly titled 'Jingle jangle' but I think it's actually called 'The Tingle' and it's so blatantly obvious that it's a Detroit production from around 1965-66, in my opinion Mike Terry's distinctive sax can plainly be heard and you only have to listen to the drum fills to realise it's the same guy who played on many of Popcorn Wylie's productions (Uriel Jones maybe?) - the vocalist is a kid and I reckon there's a good chance of it being Carl Carlton. Anyway, vocals aside, the backing track is a monster and could do some real damage on the dancefloors. If any of you think you can shed any light on it, please send me your email address and I'll send you a recording of it. Thanks.

Old, New, Known & Unknown Northern Podcast
https://planetrecords.podbean.com/2009/06/22/old-new-known-unknown-northern/ I only really wanted to post these up using refosoul but it's still down so instead it's just a short podcast containing a few unknowns, lesser knowns, a couple of acetates and goodness knows what else. I don't know how many of these are well known, I'm sure some will be, a few definitely are, see if you can guess any. I'll do a track list soon as I have a second, probably be tomorrow morning. There's some really early stuff here as well as the usual mid 60's and I think one 70's too. The first track is a really great crossover track, and it's rare for me to utter those words :-)

Glueing A Cracked Record?
You just need to glue it right on the edge of the record to hold it together

Sitting In The Park - Billy Stewart Or Georgie Fame
In the thread about records you just don't get, Tony says he prefers The Moody Blues "Go Now" to Bessie Banks version; so do I, by a mile, but I wonder if anyone had listened to Georgie Fame's version of Sitting In The Park? I really like Billy Stewart, and his version is fantastic, but I think Georgie Fame's version is even better if thats possible. Am I deluded or does anyone else think so?

Thing is though, Jamaica Ska by Byron Lee (The Ska Kings) is actually a copy of Come On And Stop - and it's great!

Top 3 Modern Soul Tunes
I love the Rare Pleasure record but I remember it from when it came out and it was classed as 'disco'!
-
Top 3 Modern Soul Tunes
I don't know because I like loads of 70's records but I just class them as Northern Soul, things like Towaway Zone, Tell me Why, I'm Your Pimp, Anderson Brothers, Will Collins, Sexy Sugar Plum, Billy Woods, Stanley Woodruff, you know those records that were played side by side with the 60's ones when they were new releases etc. But if you ask for something in say the last 20 years I wouldn't be able to even quote a title for you. I think because the sound became so different to that which I liked, I couldn't follow it.

Is "the Bottle" Northern Or Jazz Funk
I think it fits into both genres. I love it, but this may be sacrilige, I prefer the version by Brother To Brother as that was the first one I ever heard.

The Dells - Stay in my corner is one. The aformentioned Bessie Banks is another. Can't stand Chain-Chain-Chain-Chain of Fools either.
